It would have been great. Sony would have made a good amount of cash, the movie would have had crazy hype for it and the fans would have gotten what they wanted. Now Sony has to see what they can do with the FF movie. That'll be fun.
I think you mean the S6 movie or Venom Kev, FOX owns the F4. Sony has the Spidey movie-verse in a tailspin. They really needed him in the MCU if they wanted to make a come back. My guess is Marvel played hardball since Sony needs them, not the other way around. Sony's plans for a huge Spidey cinematic universe just sounds terrible though. Sony really should have done anything Marvel wanted to get Pete in the MCU. It's decisions like that that show why most of Sony's divisions are hemorrhaging money right now
