There's been so many good ones it's hard to pick one. Very subjective too, I'm sure my brother (8yrs younger) has a different favourite to me just due to eras of films, personal tastes in movies, etc.

For me this guy was hugely unique, hugely memorable and at times hugely chilling in his singlemindedness. 3 important facets for any successful movie villain.

Yeah, Amon Goeth and Hans Gruber would have to rank pretty high.

But, actor James Mason has played numerous slimy characters in the many films he has been in: North by Northwest, Prince Valiant, Prisoner of Zenda, etc. I tend to think that villains with 'charm' and better than the obviously evil characters in most films.
