NDX said:Ugh, Time Square is such a pain in the ass. Not worth going there. Convince her of that. Tell her it's just a lot of meaningless lights. Definately spend the day in either SoHo or Chinatown. She should trust you on that one.

jaguarr said:Times Square is touristy as hell and there's really not THAT much to see or do there, to be honest. It's A LOT of people wandering around, gawking, and bumping into each other while they look at Naked Cowboy Guy and avoid the panhandlers and three-card monte A-Holes. There are many other things that are worth spending your time doing like if you want to see some of the historic landmarks or spend some time in the Village or something.

That's refreshing to read. Too often I've had people ask me about Times Square only to hear me tear it down to their disappointment.AndThePickles said:I'd actually rather NOT visit the stereotypical tourist spots, so I won't mind if we don't visit Time Square. Have fun!jaguarr said:It's WORSE than the monuments in DC, believe me. I hate Times Square. Go to China Town and find one of the little bubble tea places. Those are fun and they have some crazy but tasty drinks. If you're into blues at all, Terra Blues in the Village is an excellent blues club. Right across the street from it is a fantastic Spanish restaurant that I can never remember the name of. Another good place to eat is Eight Mile Creek (if it's still there, anyway). Austrailan food run by a bunch of crazy Australians. They have kangaroo if you're curious to try it, and if you go on a Sunday evening to their downstairs bar there will be a bunch of insane Australian guys down there hanging out, drinking beer and playing Australian rock and roll. Ask them to play some Midnight Oil for you and they will buy you drinks all night long! The Museum Of Sex in the Chelsea is a lot of fun, as is the Gugenheim Museum. Little Italy is...well....little. Spoons has been there before, it sounds like, so you'll have a good guide.
Have fun!
