It's funny. They shoot a lot of Law and Order stuff on the street right behind my school, and you'd be surprised at how loose the security on-set is. They leave all kinds of expensive equipment all over the place. No one's watching any of it. If I were anymore of an ass hole, I might have half a mind to take some home.

Someone help me out. Give me a list orf places in NYC that are really New York, if you know what i'm saying. Landmark locations; both places that you'd know of from movies/tv and just being a New Yorker.

I'm talking more along the lines of places like St. Mark's, Battery Park, etc.

you mean for people or for color/scenery?

for people- yeah, lower east side, from 14th down to grand, from 4th avenue over to Ave C. It's my favorite neighborhood.

for places/landmarks, yeah, St. Marks, Astor Place, Thompkins Square, Washington Square, the docks/park over past the West Side Highway,

and my favorite- the highline: http://www.thehighline.org/ (chelsea/west side)
Its pretty cool- an old rail line in the meatpacking district that got shut down and now, a few stories above street level, is overgrown with grass and flowers (and some weeds). You can see the rail line disappearing directly into the walls of buildings, and re-emerging onthe other corner.

It's not really a "place" per se, since its just this 'thing' rooted above the streets for a dozen blocks or more, but....its pretty neat to see. There are a few cool shops in tht area- and some art galleries not far away.

I've gotten some great photographs of it from many of those galleries. I hope to get up there one day to snap a few shots before to change it.

i visited NY a year or so ago. i loved it, but i don't think i could live there. i can't even stand going into my own downtown for more than a few hours at a time, and NY is just one big downtown. it's much to confusing.

i effing love the subway, though. i spent hours at a time just riding around. it was a great way to spend time... just people watching.
