Infinity War The Black Order

Thanks for that. I didn’t even know about an animated Guardians movie.

Proxima seems to be entirely CGI, so even if she were played by Winnick, it'd be impossible to tell. She was rumored to have been played on-set by a stuntwoman named Monique Ganderton, but it's possible someone else will actually do her voice.

after seeing the Marvel Legends figure of her - I have no idea why a make-up was not used...

maybe it's just easier for the motion capture performers to get around without that elaborate costume actually being on set.

I don't get it either, she looks like she'd be the easiest of the Black Order to pull off with practical effects.

Do you guys think the mo-cap actors will also voice the characters? Monique Ganderton and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor I could see, but Terry Notary has a high pitched voice.

Kurse was terrible. The fight was lackluster and he moved EXACTLY like what he was: An actor in a pile of prosthetics and an ungainly costume. Wanna know why RAGNAROK has such amazing and versatile action? Hint... Chris wasn't fighting against an actor in a large cumbersome outfit and make up.

Bull****. Kurse, cruddy a movie as he may have been in, worked as an effect a million times more than the total-CG characters in Ragnarok (Hulk aside).

Korg looked great, but he very clearly looked like an effect, like something that wasn't there. Kurse had weight & substance and felt actually physically present. You wouldn't want to approach Hulk or the bigger-than-human guys as a practical effect, of course, but human-size and proportions just about always work best with prosthetics & costumes.

I think a combination of prosthetics/costumes and cgi are the best.

Eh, Kurse was boring. He was just a standard henchman, only slightly above Bane in Batman & Robin.

I was talking about his look - not his fight scenes or performance overall.

Exactly. And what contributed to that was that he could not be a physically dynamic character due to that butt ugly and constrictive make up and costume.

Yeah sorry the truth is kurse was boring and nothing like the grandness of Thor Ragnarok.

I wonder when feign said they would be names we know he meant us as fans. Like maybe well know voice actors like Tara strong or Lucy hale?

You all seem to be missing the pretty basic fact nobody was debating the movies. Pretty ****ing clearly Ragnarok's an infinitely better film than The Dark World is.

We're talking the special effect. "Boring character" doesn't come into it, it's not what was being discussed.

I meant less-human looking characters, by the way (I was tired as all heck when I wrote that). Kurse was just the first example that popped into my mind. While the prosthetics and makeup are very good, most of the Guardians aliens still look very humanoid.
Given how bad Marvel's CG characters have looked so far, I'm a little worried about the Black Order. Specifically Proxima, since she looks so human.

Actually given that he's a non-entity of a character in the film in contrast to him in comics, the only thing he's got going for him is looks and yes, action. And as has been already demonstrated lots found those aspects wanting. It's a poor look and he was in stiff and awkward looking action scenes. The fight he and Thor has, which again for a henchman villain which is what he was in the movie for and all that he's supposed to bring to the table, comes off lame as hell. If you're familiar with the character from comics and his initial clashes with Thor they are big, huge epic fights. In the DARK WORLD? Not so much. So not only didn't he look all that good but the one thing he was in the film for, to be Mal's muscle, comes off looking silly.

Given how great Thanos looks, I'd like to think that they aren't being shy with trying to make them all look as equally impressive.

Pretty clearly subjective, chief. Plenty of people prefer practical approaches.

As tends to be the case with an actual physical effect, yes. And CG characters are way more dynamic with movement but tend to come off weightless & lacking tangible substance. It's a trade-off.

But obviously.

People wonder why they didn't do more practical effects with The Black Order, but looking at this new art which I'm sure is a pretty accurate indicator of their final look in the movie there is just no way they would be to capture this same level of detail, and I'm a dude that's all for practical effects in almost every one of my movies. I mean at least they actually look like aliens, and not people in make-up which is focused on so heavily in the GOTG movies which I honestly don't mind, but those designs could be a lot better IMO.
