This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]488523[/split]
Nope. T'Challa's the riches character in mainstream fiction; period.
$216 million OW. We knew this was going to open big but wow, nice job BP.
Saturday writethru, after Friday, 8:58PM: By the time the four-day Presidents Day holiday stretch ends, Black Panther will have surpassed many of Marvels mightiest on the all-time domestic B.O. openers chart. Black Panther is now looking at the 6th best opening of all-time on a 3-day-basis with an estimated $185.8M per industry projections and a mind-blowing $213M over four days.
1..) Black Panther (DIS), 4,020 theaters / $76.6M Fri (includes $25.2M in previews) /3-day: $185.8M /4-day: $213M/Wk 1
We don't know what legs it needs because we don't have enough info on the OS numbers yet. There's a real possibility now that it could make a billion though. So this is making a billion? What kind of legs would it have for it not to considering the large opening?

A $Billion? I can't believe we're having this conversation; as in its an actual possibility for this film to reach that figure.

UPDATE, SATURDAY: Disney/Marvels Black Panther is on a powerhouse run at the international box office as it climbs to $81.5M through Friday. It is now outperforming not only Ant-Man, Guardians Of The Galaxy and Doctor Strange, but Thor: Ragnarok and is on its way to besting all pre-weekend projections. It should cross $150M in 48 markets through Sunday.
The Ryan Coogler-helmed superhero movie is overperforming in the UK and Korea, and doing bang-up business in the emerging South East Asia markets as weve seen throughout the past few days.
The UK gross through Friday is $14.4M while Korea is hot on its heels at $14.3M. With figures added from local reporting outlet Kobiz, Korea through Saturday has grossed over $20M.
The current frame also marks the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year period and while Black Panther couldnt pounce into the Middle Kingdom (and who would want to be trying to compete with the action there as Monster Hunt 2 got off with $145M in just two days?), the holiday is helping spin turnstiles in other Asian hubs.

Black Panther grossed an estimated $75.81M on Friday. That represented the eighth largest opening day gross of all-time.
Currently, Saturday should see around $61M
Many people say there isn't an audience for black superheroes and they might have a point. There hasn't been a mega-successful black superhero movie without Will Smith.
But the Marvel Cinematic Universe is more popular than ever. Even the B-list GotG made over 700 m worldwide.
So will Black Panther reach the heights of the Thor and Captain America sequels? Will if flop? Or fall somewhere inbetween?
