Age of Ultron The Black Widow Thread

This movie really made me want a black widow film. She's spent enough time on the sidelines now and Scarlett might be ready now that she has had her baby

To those who have seen the film:

How did you find Black Widow, and how much screen time does she have?

Widow gets lots of screen time. Not sure how Widow fans will react to her portrayal though. I'm not a fan of the character but some aspects of her story were not great and I was surprised at some of Whedons choices for Widow.

I thought Scarlett was again good in the role. The flashback of her training was a nice addition, and I also thought her interest in Banner worked for the most part. She is usually guarded with people and doesn't show her feelings, so she was more vulnerable here at times. And of course kicks ass in combat - loved her on the motorbike.

I also liked the blue trim on her suit, and she fills it out very well of course.

I like Black Widow in AOU better than the first one.

She, along with Scarlet Witch, were such scene stealers!

That train scene is taken right outta Spider-Man 2

Didn't care for her character until The Winter Soldier, then I thought she was awesome. But this movie has made me hate her character again.Joss Whedon plus Black Widow= Disaster.

I quite liked her here. I thought that her:
being friends with Clint's family, and his kids calling her "Aunt Nat"
was a nice touch. The only thing that I didn't really care for was:
her getting captured by Ultron. Nothing really comes of it and I was left wondering why he even bothered, since it gained him nothing.

Two things:

1. What came of it was "Natasha sent word out telling the Avengers where Ultron was"

2. Why he did it? Because he wanted to gloat and speechify, and his prior audience had turned traitor.

Why did you hate her?

I REALLY hated the romance route they took with her and Banner. It felt forced and did nothing to add to her character arc. If anything, something with Hawkeye would have made more sense. Scarlet and Ruffalo lacked chemistry and the pairing didnt work. That cliche nonsense was a turnoff for her

See, this is why I'm a terrible person... Everybody else is focused on her performance, and all I'm thinking about is how I was reminded Scarlett Johansson was pregnant during filming because Black Widow's chest seemed twice as large.

Why did you hate her?

^
1.her hairstyle
2.her costume with all the neon blue all over it.
3.her romance scenes with Banner.
4.she had no cool Kung fu moves.
5.no cool gadgets.
6.she was nothing special.

In The Winter Soldier she was amazing, but Whedon proves with this movie that he has no clue on how to make Black Widow into a cool character.

I just assumed they always change her hair for every film.

I wasn't really feeling the blue too. But, I guess it's supposed to work with her sticks like how they them to her last time, but it wasn't shown on film really as far as I remember

I thought it was ok, but still kinda lame. Like just because she's female, she has to paired off with someone. I'm just not a fan of shipping in general.

The last three, I'm guessing has to do with Johansson being pregnant. Actually, maybe even the romance too. But, I wasn't really following the film's development or her pregnancy. So, I don't know about the timing.

BTW, in the comics, I'm used to her nickname being Tasha. This movie, they called her Nat a lot. Does anyone know if she's ever been called Nat before (or any nickname in the movies)? I don't recall any nicknames in any previous movie.

The fact that so many people use the "well she's a woman, so of course she has to be paired up" argument is amusing to me. Until this point, she had had ZERO confirmed romantic relationships in the MCU, ZERO! That's less than all of the other Avengers, except for Hawkeye (who had by far the least amount of screentime/appearances up until that point).

Did people see this already?

Whedon set the character back some in my eyes, and I'm not sure if there's enough screentime for her to make up for it now either.

I hope the Russo bros fix the aspect of BW's somewhat connection to Banner... I think she's better off with someone like Cap or someone else...we haven't seen on screen yet...not sure who...I know she was heavily involved with Barton before way back when but with Clint having a family and all, that's out of the question.

I want a BW/Hawkeye film. Don't think either would work as a solo film but I'd like one film that explores their backgrounds separately and then brings them together for some missions before they get split as partners maybe under negative circumstances. Then years later Barton gets a contract with her as the target but he doesn't know until the last moment and not going through with it leads to big consequences for him.

I remember in one of the trailers there was a scene where she was holding two big guns, and it wasn't in the movie; in fact she barely even used those batons they kept showing with in the promo stuff, maybe a few seconds and that was it.

Honestly, I think Bobbie Morse has used them more than Natasha Romanoff.

But there's a version of this movie that's at least an hour longer that might have some more badass Black Widow scenes.

She was okay in this, the banner stuff didn't really bother me like I thought it would but there wasn't any cool fighting from her in this film. I found it beyond ridiculous that she didn't get jumped when the bots had them surrounded, they really need to upgrade her bracelets.

I chuckled when Banner I think lands on her face first in the chest during the party at the Avengers Tower during the shootout :hehe:.

I really wanted Clint to be with Bobbi, like in the comics, but the revelation that he has a family now put a huge damper on this possibility in the MCU. It's too bad, because I wanted to see a movie based on the Hawkeye/Mockingbird miniseries in the comics.
