The Brave and the Bold News and Discussion Thread

The side of internet glued to this stuff would double in its hellscape-y-ness if they announced a Batman/Superman film as the film introducing Batman, right after Superman. I still say throw him in Clayface first, even if you do World's Finest before BatB.

And it should definitely be called World's Finest.
But Dawn of Justice! :o

Remembered Gunn saying he didn't wanna name the writer of this because of the pressure and a lot of us were saying it was just him which is hilarious and kinda ridiculous. I wonder if that pressure relates to it just being a Batman film, or if it's something else. My mind went to Gunn and Reeves when I thought of extra pressure, and its not Reeves. But those two make me think of being a lil overworked and juggling several things. The other person that fits that kind of mold and pressure and etc etc and is directly related to the DCU and DCUs Gotham is Mike Flanagan.

That would be a great get.

You have never seen a 180 like the one I’ll do if Flanagan writes or directs this.

It would be a great showcase for him. If they cast a DCU Batman for Clayface, he could be more involved than we think.

I like how Gotham feels in this commercial. It’s like halfway between Joel Schumacher’s take and Matt Reeves’.
State Farm cooked wtf.

It’s like if you took the stylized campiness and comicbook-iness of the Jack Nicholson Joker and applied the realistic makeup aesthetic and texture of the Heath Ledger Joker.

I really dug that commercial. Would be neat if James Gunn gave us something like this for his version of the DCU Arkham universe and characters.

Though, I would like Poison Ivy to skew a little bit more towards the Harley Quinn animated show version, maybe dialed back just a tiny bit for a more straightforward characterization. I just never found original recipe Pamela Isley anywhere near as interesting and compelling as her newer animated incarnation. Maybe if you went halfway and mixed some of the sultriness of the original with the witty sarcasm and hilarious frankness of Lake Bell’s take, I would be fine with that.

Someone like Karen Gillan would be perfect for that. She can be sexy but also play introverted and sassy really well.

I’m indifferent to the Keoghan design but I’m kinda uninterested in anything other than total reinventions at this late stage in the genre.

To be honest, for a COMMERCIAL, this is pretty good. I expect a higher quality for a big screen movie though.

I would love a Brian Bolland inspired classic Joker, to be honest. I am over all the "reinventions", which also includes Elephant Man Joker in the Reevesverse. I feel like with the right make up team (the same ones who do the Penguin), we could get something that is faithful and looks awesome. Which actually does require creativity to make look right on screen (anyone can just throw the source material in the trash when they can't figure out how to translate it, real talent is putting in the extra mile to make it work and look good on screen).

I mean, I'd say real talent is simply making something good. They're not sacred texts, the characters themselves aren't even what really matters - the people using them as a broad concepts to do their own thing are what matters. Doesn't mean people have to like everything that's done with them but I don't see a lot of value or utility in caring about source accuracy beyond some baseline stuff.

Even as a kid into comics I realized pretty early that what I was actually interested in were the people writing and drawing the comics. The characters are great but the actual fun is seeing people do different things with them. Especially Batman who has always benefited from writers really making him their own.
