State Farm cooked wtf.

I'm ngl, this just kinda looks very cheap to me. It feels like someone just copy pasted an Alex Ross panel (which isn't a good thing considering most of his design choices look cheap)

Great for a commercial, but you cannot look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn't notice a disparity in quality if you put that Joker next to Battinson

Yeah, as much as I'm impressed by the effort they've made for the ad, it's nowhere "movie ready."

But it is an indicator of how a "more comic booky " (*) adaptation could be cool.

* All of them are actually "comic booky", even Nolan's. You just gotta look at the right comics. But what I'm getting at is probably go all in on "modern or semi-modern monthly main title Batman runs." You know, the whole nine yards. If that makes sense.

I’d be so happy if it were Jacob Elordi and Bill Skarsgard as Batman and Joker

Skarsgard is such a hype unique Batman option. Way more exciting than casting him as Joker. Elordi would be phenomenal though.
Bill Skarsgård would fall into that category of actors who could play both Batman and Joker, as did Keaton, Bale and Pattinson before him.
I see a pattern. And I like it.

I don't think anyone meant this, it seems obvious to me given the different nature of the two products. The discussion mainly focuses on the design.

In any case, I would prefer an aesthetic choice more in line with my favorite villain played by the GOAT Jack Nicholson, rather than giving continuity to the aesthetic choice of Ledger and - let's pretend Leto never existed - Phoenix.

Wouldn't that just be giving continuity to the aesthetic choice of Nicholson and Leto (to an extent) then ;)?

At any rate I'd say it's a triumph that most of those Jokers you're talking about still stand out from one another with that in mind.

That's exactly what I wrote, it seemed obvious to me.
Return to an aesthetic that we haven't seen since 1989 at the cinema rather than a more of the same of what we saw in 2008, 2019 and 2024.

Leto doesn't exist 😂

Leto’s weird because he’s actually massively comic accurate apart from the… added details lol

Considering the near 100-year editorial history of various characters, what defines a character as comic accurate? Who establishes it?
Because often, even in comics, Morrison's Batman is decidedly different from King's or Miller's or Snyder's. Just as in cinema Burton's is different from Nolan's or Reeves'.

The greatness of comics, first, and cinecomics, later, lies precisely in the infinite possibilities of infusing their own poetics by the authors who treat the various characters. Often distorting the work of those who preceded his run.
The results are in themselves fluctuating, but make everything more intriguing with each reset/soft reboot.

After watching more interviews with Ritchson, I can see why people like him. I don’t think he’s good for Bruce, but the reputation he seems to have on here of being a meathead seems a little undeserved. I do think he’d be a solid addition to this universe.

Whether he is or is not a meathead IRL is a little irrelevant to him inherently giving that energy off on screen and obviously not being a conventionally good actor who can overcome that. He’s also just got one of the most boring faces I’ve ever seen. Belongs in an energy drink commercial, not the movies.

I'm always the first to be interested in the creative rewriting and appropriation of all these icons by new artists. And so, I completely agree with @Adrian Chase previous post about these characters find their strength in their ability to be constantly reinvented.
But I think that, despite everything, we can still define a “classic” image for each of them. Regarding the Joker, I don't think it's a mistake to say that the flamboyant/dandy criminal remains his most popular portrayal... and I also believe that, after 20 years of scar-based reinterpretations, it may feel like a fresh direction again, when it comes to live-action.

I understand that some may find the Joker in this ad too “cheap”, but I think this is more a technical problem than an artistic one. Yes, the visuals, while well done, don't feel like a “real movie” (and the humorous tone bleeds too much over everything to last any longer without exhaustion).
But give this same Joker to a director whose sensibility knows how to digest and shot outrageous make-up and design, and I don't see why a Joker like this wouldn't work, visually speaking.

That being said, finding people like that wanting to make a CBM is another thing... :o

I'm not disagreeing. But it's kinda like Keanu having the reputation of being dumb until his off-screen characteristics started to become more well-known. So, I feel like he could eventually overcome it over time. Maybe.

Alan Ritchson was the best part of the Titans show, and he played Hawk (a character I couldn’t give two ****s about). He’s a very charismatic actor.

I don’t really want him as Batman but I’d love for him to play Aquaman again.

I think it’s time for villain aesthetics to resemble their comic counterparts more strongly and give the realism a bit of a rest. Fingers crossed that TBATB is more openly fantastical with the likes of Man-Bat.

Yes, if the batman crime saga will be grounded I hope we'll see a more fantastical Batman in this movie and the DCU in general.

For as much as I think it’s important to respect Reeves’s wishes when it comes to keeping The Batman and the DCU separate, I also think that it’s important to give audiences a Batman that’s suitably all-ages.

Pattinson isn’t that. And being isolated to Gotham, he doesn’t have to be, but ideally a Batman of the greater DC Universe, standing side by side with Superman, should be. We can right what went wrong with Mr. Dunkin’ Donuts up there.

After the BTS video of "Superman" I admit I'm torn: I would like Gunn to direct "Brave and the Bold", but I would also like to see him immediately working on a sequel to "Superman".
