You've got me so excited to watch the UC. I know you and I both really enjoyed the TC and didn't hate this film as most did so, now I'm ready for the UC experience. I love the Watchmen Directors cut. I'm so excited!

If you were on the fence, there's a good chance that you might like it just a bit.

I liked it more than the Theatrical version.

Agreed, and I thought that some scenes's order is a bit rearranged and some scenes are cut while a lot more has been added.
Yeah, there's scenes in a different order which was fine with me, and I didn't notice much cut to be honest. Maybe just the shot of Superman flying down from the sky in Africa, and the bathtub water not gushing onto Clark's glasses as much.

Nah was never on the fence. I enjoyed the TC a lot but I knew that with a UC it would be even better. And apparently it seems that way. So I am excited to see an extended cut of a film I already loved and enjoyed.

People in WW forum are saying it looks like it is earlier tests for the BvS movie- the tiara and makeup are different. But they toned it down for the movie and didn't use the cloak. In her solo movie she uses a black coat.

What a shame too, as it is such a beautiful cloak and design.

Did anyone else find it weird how the intro to Batman and the "Good men turned cruel" scenes are split now? I like them together, but I did like how we go from Clark and Lois to Bruce and Alfred. It was a good juxtaposition between the heroes and their companions.

Watchmen's DC I refer to as fan service, only because the added material didn't do much to affect the presentation or story. If someone had only watched the TC, I don't know if I could recommend they have to see the longer cut.

Blade Runner is the closest comparison because of how key moments are recut or inserted (in contrast to the director's intent). Whereas the Blade Runner TC spoonfed audiences and diluted the material, the BvS TC left out spoonfuls altogether and deprived the viewer of a richer meal. Nothing humongous in and of itself, but the small cuts add up to a huge chunk when looked at as a whole.

It's truly a shame this wasn't the final cut. I wouldn't go as far to say this would've been a undisputed runaway hit critically/financially, but the DCEU's future and surrounding scuttlebutt would've been far brighter.
Sounds like a lot of mental gymnastics to convince one's self the movie is better than the piece of crap everyone perceived it to be, based on minor reworked scenes and table scraps of extra footage.

All the core elements of why it was a ****** movie are still there. Snyder's poor story telling, inaccurate and unlikable hero characterizations, bland acting, goofy ham Lex Luthor Jr., maligned character motivations etc

It all still exists in one giant, depressing, uninspired derivative comic book movie that was ultimately forgettable. Best thing about it was the score. Particularly WW.

"piece of crap EVERYONE perceived it to be"

Mental gymnastics indeed. :hehe:

And oh, the term "derivative" gave me a good laugh. :)

I think it's also to show a period of time has passed, with the Clois scene 'allowing time' for Bruce to change clothes and meet Alfred in the cave. Works for me, anyway.

The verdict is out: Jon Schnepp likes BvS UC. Everyone on the panel did.

And yeah, the UC makes you feel bad for Snyder.

They really should've just released the UC.

The Clark scenes make it feel like old school Superman as well.

I'm quite settled in liking a film most people do not. There are no gymnastics here (feel free to call out where I have), it's been a resounding agreement (thus far) the UC is the superior version of the film in practically every aspect.

From my view, all the elements which received a middling or tepid response were adequately addressed and should yield a better impression. It's not going to turn someone's low score into a high one, but I do think it's going to convert many who were on the fence.

That's hilarious. :funny:

I've talked to a couple people after my screening who felt the same way. I think it's easily going to add another point or so for everyone. The main thing to take out of it is people who outright hated it won't feel completely different, but everyone else is going out looking at it in a better light.

Stuff like the reason why Superman didn't spot the wheelchair explosive, and why people were convinced Superman killed in Africa, greatly improve the film for me alone.

It really is.

Also stuff like the scene where Perry says someone on the committee specifically asked for Clark to cover the gallery/library fundraiser. (Implying Lex.) Little inclusions that open up the movie a lot more.

Knowing how small, but integral they were to the plot and character motivations was frustrating in hindsight. Barring the Africa sequence, I'd say about 10 minutes could have easily been put back in and prevented so many questions or concerns from being made in the first place.

Yep.
Also Perry joking to Clark about not being mugged in Gotham, which strengthens his later line about 'breaking news, water wet'. And Perry's comment about 'where does he go?' has meaning too - Clark's back in Gotham investigating the bat branding.
Not sure what the go is here in regards to outright spoilers, so I tagged it.

its cool to hear the ultimate cut greatly improves superman/clark kent as a character

It does. It feels a little more balanced in regards to Bruce/Batman and Clark/Superman sharing screentime.

Just got out of my UC screening, it's a significant improvement over the theatrical cut. It's a shame this wasn't what was released back in March.

I'm so surprised Jon Snepp liked it I'm actually thinking if he is faking it considering how much he hated the TC. Three of those guys see a "Night and Day" difference. How's that possible?

I like that we

got more of the Bat-branded criminal - seeing him in prison before we see the photos of him delivered to Clark just make it that more impactful and convincing regarding Superman's feelings towards Batman.

I keep feeling this big time. The UC is going down a lot better than the TC.

Yep. You really feel in the UC that Supes would be thinking WTF are they on about in regards to me killing in Africa.
Seeking out the paid actress, and finding she's not there, is much, much better. Showing he's trying to discover why she's saying such radically untrue statements in the media. Her getting killed before the hearing was good, too.

I'm most looking forward to the funeral scene as some of you said it is far more effective.
