Also, Superman gets his film back, in this cut. We all know Snyder loves Batman, but you really get to see the respect, admiration, and appreciation Snyder continues to have for Clark/Superman, too. Such great Clark/Superman/Smallville/Metropolis stuff here that it gives creedence to rumors that WB execs wanted the film to be more Batman heavy, and probably had some of the great Superman stuff forced out.

Thrilled to hear this.

What is great about this "ultimate cut ' scene is that Batman is not perfect. In the initial release, he goes from a battle with Superman to going in and beating the heck out of the bad guys looking like Superman. That was just too much. In this scene you clearly see how Batman's suit has some level of bullet protection (one scene in the original cut) and he can get hit (heck he gets stabbed).

This scene is not more violent than the theatrical release, so why is the ultimate release "R" rated?

Actually there is a difference. During the part where Batman flings the wooden crate at that thugs head you actually see blood spray on the wall from the impact

Managed to watch the Ultimate cut today. What a phenomenal, sprawling epic this film is...such a shame that theatrical cut is what most people saw and what most people will ever see.

Now, to be clear I admire and appreciate Snyder's approach with these characters. This "deconstructed view" that places these characters in our problematic, corrupt world and tries to imagine how they would navigate it. How they would be viewed, by a more cynical, modern population. A lot of people don't have patience for this thought experiment. It puts the characters in a tricky position and keeps them from being light, wise-cracking, and chipper. If you can't get past Batman killing or Superman being troubled by what's going on around him, in BvS, this cut is not going to do much for you.

However, if you felt that there were moments in the film that really worked, moments that were puzzling, and that the film felt too choppy editing-wise. You stand the most to gain from this cut. I put myself in this category. This Ultimate Edition was sooo much more cohesive and better-paced. I'll give you an example...the Ultimate Edition introduces us to Gotham and The Batman in far better manner than the theatrical cut, because the scenes have room to breathe. In the theatrical cut we enter the scene with the bats escaping the chimney, which is a ham-fisted way of saying we're about to enter a batman-oriented scene. The ultimate cut shows police-men hanging out before getting called out to a crime scene, and then we see the shot of the bats flapping about. It tells us that the Batman is here, or has been here. It makes for a much more mysterious and cooler introduction to the character and the world. There are so many scenes that have be re-worked and re-postioned like that, throughout the cut, which allows the film to work better, flow better, and flat out make sense.

I have a lot more to say about this cut, but, overall, I'll just say that this cut serves the ambition of the BvS concept, in a far better way than the theatrical one did. It's so obvious that the theatrical cut was focused on moving from one climactic scene to another to hastily keep audiences attention, but it did so at the risk of chopping up the main narrative and removing the motivations that were pushing most of the characters forward.

My only slight negative that is a holdover from the theatrical is that the apocalypse/Justice League stuff was too "out there" and too much to stuff into this film. They do so some stuff with the audio to make the apocalyspe/flash stuff a bit more digestible, but I don't know...I understand the logic of setting the seeds for Justice League here, but they should made it a post-credits scene or something.

I'm really looking forward to watching this version many more times and also as double-bill with Man of Steel, because this version is a far better companion piece.

Great review, thanks, and I glad to hear we get more Superman here and it seems more like his movie. I like Batman and all, but Superman was the big draw here for me as I am a much bigger Supes fan.

Indeed, and of course the ending is extended where Batman stares down the thug he pinned to the wall.

It's a shame this has tainted Snyder when it's clearly a WB decision to cut it back. I'm sure it was because they thought the GA wouldn't buy into this character study so it was a risk they took that I don't think worked.

was that all?It seemed to me there were a lot of extra shots thrown in, but hard to tell without watching the UC and TC back to back

Ok, so I discovered I can play it on most computers, and my phone, just not yet found a way to stream it to any of my tv's/devices.

Any who, while the wife and I did not get to watch the whole film together last night (we're gonna hook the computer up to the tv tonight,) I went a head and started watching on my phone in bed last night, lol.

I'm such a junkie.

Any who, I'm about half way through, and my no god, this is infinitely better than the TC.
It's definitely the same movie, story, etc, but the flow is SOOOO much better.

While I found the TC jumpy, especially the first half, this gives room to breath. That said, I think there are still plenty of things they could trim a touch more. Especially in some of the action.

One thing I REALLY noticed in the TC was when it would switch to IMAX shot footage, and keep in mind I was watching in a normal cinema, so there was no aspect ratio change, it became painfully obvious by the change in filming and editing.

Now, I know that the nature of the IMAX camera plays a large roll in this, but I found this to be a telling difference between Snyder's use of IMAX, and say, Nolan's. In TDK, I had no idea when a scene was supposed to have been IMAX, when seeing it in a normal theater. The editing, and the way it was shot, felt consistent with everything else.
This was NOT the case with BvS. Especially in the Knightmare scene, as everything just SLOOOOWWWWSSS DOOOWWWWWN.
It was better in IMAX, as the massive frame helps the long circling shot around Batman as he takes on Superman's army flow much better. However, even in IMAX I found everything felt slow. Even Batman's movements in the fight.

Any who, the reason I went off on that tangent was because in the UC, so far, I have really noticed a touch of that similar slowness in a lot of the actions scenes. They feel like they just need another pass to tighten them up a bit still. Still felt this in the TC, outside of the IMAX scenes (IMAX just made it MUCH more apparent,) but the choppy, jumpy, pace of the TC, I think, covered it a bit more.
Long story short, while the film flows WAY better, and the added story elements are much needed, a lot of the action editing could still be, IMO, tightened a bit.

As I mentioned, only about half way through (Lex just watched into find the Kryptonite stolen, still really think it could have used a full Bat-scene here,) and it's undeniably superior, I think you could still, easily, trim another 15 minutes, for a SOLID 2:45 epic.

I haven't seen the UC yet, but I agree with you that the movie could have been edited better, the Batmobile chase scene went on too long, camera stayed a bit too long in some cases like Granny's peach Tea scene.

I am worried about JL, not because of Snyder but as that movie has the same movie editor.

I am not very worried about JL but HOPE they do take note of the problems they created with BvS.

I would not mind an editor change or at least a second set of eyes "helping" with editing.

I hear a lot more bones cracking. It's looks and sounds way more brutal that I remember.

It's pretty easy to buy and watch this legally through cineplex, regardless of where you live.

god, i just can't wait to see it...
sucks we Japanese have to wait till Aug :csad:

Same with us in the UK, 1st August :csad:.

Why the hell do they do this? How do they not realize that this is WHY they have a problem with "piracy."

The film (and music for that matter) industries have some of the most incredibly ignorant, and harmfully stupid policies of any industry I've ever seen.

No, no it is not. I am in canada, and while I had little trouble buying it (it was NOT the easiest either, took me 3 tries,) it has been all but impossible for me to actually watch the film on a television.

I'm on Amazon right now, so the Ultimate Cut is ONLY on Bluray???

While the DVD ONLY has the theatrical cut???

Is this true???

How hard is it to put the Ultimate Cut on DVD???? WTH!!

was that all?It seemed to me there were a lot of extra shots thrown in, but hard to tell without watching the UC and TC back to back

Your are correct, there are indeed many extra shots, most notably for example, when Batman is surrounded he gives a headbutt to one guy, hits another guy with his forearm blades, in that same segment he breaks some other dude's arm aside from the one we saw breaking in the TC (I think TC just showed the second guy).

I am not very worried about JL but HOPE they do take note of the problems they created with BvS.

I would not mind an editor change or at least a second set of eyes "helping" with editing.

According to reports(Mark Hughes) Affleck will be helping with postproduction and editing.

Really? I can buy this right now on there? There's no catch?

Yep, all you have to do is buy the digital entertainment e-gift card and put like a $30 value on it. Then you can use the gift card code to purchase from the store. Totally legit, no need for a VPN or anything like that.

I won't give any links, but the UC has leaked in 720p on reddit. If you search hard enough, it is there. I went home and downloaded on my lunch break.

So this is insanely frustrating.
Finished downloading the movie, and it seems to only play through the cineplex player.
However, I can stream it, at least it seems so first.
I wait till this evening, so I can watch it with my wife, but turns out can't do so over the ps3.

That's ok, I've got a Roku. The site explicitly states you can use a Roku.

No. No, I can not.
There are MULTIPLE apps/channels that are supposed to allow me to play it, through syncing it with an Ultraviolet account.
They either don't work, or don't even exist anymore.

Try on the tablet, via the cineplex app.

Nope.

Pretty damn pissed at the moment.

It is connected to the Ultraviolet account, right?

If yes, and if you haven't done it already, connect your Ultraviolet account to Flixter account and stream it via Flixter Video app.

EDIT: Guess you figured it out.

In other words, Zack Snyder made a great movie, but because it was butchered, no one saw it.

Knew it :cmad:

This is what I was talking about: the UC IS BvS, the TC isn't. Just an inferior version that sadly everyone saw first, and was affected by it.

We need to fight for people to see the UC, so at least they can watch and judge the real movie to form their own opinion, not a movie where it is obvious they were going to hate.

FIGHT FOR THE BVS UC!
