THE CINEMA LOUNGE

This reminds me yet again that I haven't rewatched Naked since the first time, back when it came out. And damn, that's over 30 years ago now.. Of the Mike Leigh movies I've watched, this is probably the first that I haven't even catched on TV for a rewatch. To say I need to fix that definitely is an understatement..

Clint Eastwood doing what he does best.

In my mind I had seen this, but had it confused with another Eastwood western, so I let it play for about 2 minutes or so, and it was like discovering a new flavor.

A drifter with no name (Clint Eastwood) wanders into a small town, where his gun-slinging abilities are in demand. He is met with incredulity and disapproval by the townspeople. But once he kills with his gun skills, the locals realize he may be able to help them fend off a band of criminals who have been terrorizing the town. He agrees to help the townspeople, but does so with his own secret agenda and often funny situations. I was also shocked by how he interacts with a certain female character all within 10 minutes or so of the intro. This is no doubt a classic.

Next on my list is the western with him and a nun.

@C. Lee knows What I mean.

HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER is an interesting film. Not often you find a western ghost story. I met actor/stuntman Russ McCubbin (one of the 3 men Clint kills in the barbershop at the beginning of the movie) at a convention over twenty years ago. He was appreciative of Clint giving him the role. He had been friends with him since they both worked on RAWHIDE. I know what you're talking about with his next movie you're going to watch. It has a well done train wreck off of a tressle.

There's a French film called "Being Maria" that's about the actress Maria Schneider filming "Last Tango". I'm scared to watch it.

That's actually another flick I'm about to rewatch pretty soon. A true classic.

Rewatched Speed on a whim. One of those movies that if anyone told me it was their favorite film of all time, I wouldn't bat an eye. Such a perfect popcorn blockbuster.

90s Sandy would've had me doing all that too.

I will watch Speed any time. Never, ever gets old.
Basically the Die Hard of the 90s. Also written by the man who made my favorite TV show of all time and a banger in Silo.

Only one writer with a credit!

Finding out the entire movie was Yost's idea. Interesting to learn that the idea of the movie came from one of my father's favorites, Runaway Train.
And that one credited writer is the one who came up with the "98.9%" number that he says the other guy wrote! 🤷‍♀️

Still, yes, the premise was his, and how do you beat that "Die Hard on a bus" pitch? You don't. Can't be done.

Die Hard on a boat. :o

I definitely believe you. Pretty crazy Whedon did that over a week. Considering Yost's other work, he's probably self-assured enough to be honest about credit. Silo is so good.

*Remembering how the sequel made it obvious they expected Keanu back by not even changing her boyfriend's occupation and bringing back that one dude whose car Jack destroyed in the first one* :hehe:

Wait, is he not suppose to be Jack? I haven't seen it in over 20 years. I just always assumed it was a recast, not a new character. :funny:

Yep. Just finished s2ep 4. Taking them a bit slow as they are super dense. Each episode feels like it's own, exhausting film in the best way possible. I kind of hate myself for being amazed at how good Ferguson, but she gets me every time.

No his name is Alex! But yes he is absolutely Jack. :funny:

Yeah S2 is a lot. Looking forward to your thoughts on the finale!

I still haven't seen Speed 2. Not really sure I want to, though it does seem like I'm missing out on some good Dafoe action.
