It seems now this one is definitely connected to the first film. So you should watch it. Plus you should also watch 10 Cloverfield Lane regardless, it’s great.

Pretty big thing here. Netflix is going hard this year because they're preparing for Disney's streaming service next year. What they have done tonight is pretty groundbreaking, in my opinion. After this, I can only imagine the types of movies these streaming services will be dropping next year.

Well...I feel like part of this is also just the Abrams/Bad Robot way. They love the whole "Surprise! It's a movie!" thing. Remember when Super 8's teaser came out and no one even knew J.J. had shot a movie? Good times. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a similar situation as I recall.

Wow didn’t realize it would be on Netflix. They must have paid a lot of money for it.

It cost $45M to make. And read online the Netflix deal made it profitable already for Paramount.

Never seen 10 Cloverfield Lane. Seen ending and thats it. It may be good, but its only vaguely connected to Cloverfield and aint worth my time. Its on Hulu though.

Yeah, I don't like the Mystery Box thing when applied to his major blockbusters because details on projects that huge are certain to come out regardless, and it just results in a bunch of pointless "secrets" and denials that you never needed to keep in the first place (like Khan in STID). BUT I love it when applied to these little projects that they can keep totally under the radar.

We're not sure if it's 100% a prequel yet. Just speculation at this point.
