Guardians of the Galaxy The Collector Thread

help me out here. i have read thanos quest and the infinity gauntlet. all i saw was thanos go after gems. i never saw the part where he went after the gauntlets he wears. did i miss that? not a big deal just that from what you said it makes it appear like the collector would collect a gauntlet with no gems then in turn you would have thanos take that gauntlet that has no gems. like you later stated as a symbolic gesture.

i think a real gesture would be getting the reality gem from the collector. like when thanos went after all the gems, he outsmarted, conned or bested the elders for their gems.

Well that's what he did. I heard multiple things. I've heard someone say that he built the gauntlet as a weapon to harness the power of the 6 gems together.

However, I am pretty sure he just put the gems on his left glove

So was that "Terrence Stamp is the Collector" thread really anything genuine? Or is it just because he was actually in a 1960s film called "The Collector" as a collector, that this "scoop" would be technically true in a way?

Starting too think it was a joke that got out of hand and took on a life of its own.

Yeah, pretty sure it was somebody just riffing on the old 1960s movie as a joke.

But still, it's a good idea. Hell, I'll campaign for Stamp as the Collector.

Hey...
Stamp....Collector.

BY CROM, IT MUST BE SO! THE FATES DECREE! :cmad:

Yes I want Stamp as Collector. It would be awesome to have him in GotG, and his hair just naturally looks like the Collector's.

His eyes are perfect too just imagine him with the all white eyes

I think I'd prefer Malcolm MacDowell to Terrence Stamp as the Collector. McDowell seems more creepy, and Stamp seems to have become less villainous in his old age.

I think they're both creepy but McDowell has a reputation for creepy. I'd be happy with either.

i don't have a choice for collector, just made a quick manip of stamp.

I suggested Malcolm McDowell in another thread. He already looks quite similar to the character and would need little make up facially. He just needs a wig. He's already used to playing villainous characters who are semi-immortal at least, like Tolian Soran in Star Trek Generations.

Don't really want Nick Nolte in another Marvel movie after his turn in Ang Lee's Hulk.

Terrance Stamp or Christopher Plummer, on the other hand, wouldn't be bad, especially Stamp.

Not sure if I could take Dustin Hoffman seriously as the Collector, and Michael Douglas might seem a bit too sleazy.

McDowell!

Anyone else wondering whether the Collector will actually be in the movie?

If he is, how about Charles Dance?

Well I hope he is. He definitely fits in with the theme of the movie if the Guardians are on the run with a highly coveted object (whatever that is).

And Charles Dance wouldn't be a bad idea.

A few days ago, there was a rumor from a fairly credible source (Collider) about casting for a role that turned out to be (apparently) the one Glenn Close nabbed....which a lot of us assume is the Xandarian Worldmind, director of the Nova Corps. There were some other hefty names bandied about there --- Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe. Makes me wonder now if the role *they* were being considered for is The Collector.

I didn't think of that but that actually sounds plausible. I think i read one of the trades that reported on the Close casting say the roles they were up for is different as well.

Don't you mean HitFix? And yeah, that sounds plausible

the collector...

seriously???

...this is the route the're heading for ???

...benicio in this role for more then one movie???

...utterly lame....http://imageshack.us

Why is it lame? at least put some facts or explanation into why you think this is a bad move. I don't know anything about the collector or his storylines but I'm pretty sure they'll work a very nice story in GotG that leads his role into the Avengers, I feel no need to worry.

I wouldn't call The Collector lame, but it's certainly an odd and obscure choice. I'm going to remain cautiously skeptical about this latest rumor. It *is* the second time it's cropped up, but who knows, might be the same "source" who just really, really wants The Collector to be in this movie.

Like Humanimal, I just can't see Collector warranting multiple movies, or even being interesting enough to play more than a small role in the MCU. Not unless they're really changing the role and amping it up for something completely different. I mean, alien Elder who runs around "collecting" superheroes/villains from various planets for no purpose other than to put them in his "museum" worlds?

Sorry, not buying it. Especially in a film that, so far, seems to focus on a cops and robbers sort of scenario involving the Guardians as a bunch of criminals with proverbial hearts of gold on the lam from not only the interstellar law, but also a host of unsavory alien thugs and pirates. Not much room to plug a Collector scenario in there.

what keeps me worrying is the multi contract for this role...he should just lead to thanos...if they keep him for avengers as well...i really hope he has a minor role...cause...one who collects trophyes? wow.... how long ist this goin to play out for an interresting plot?...

actually what cherokee said :-)

Really? There seems to me like a bunch of different scenarios where The Collector could fit in. Is it out of the realm of possibility that The Collector may have the infinity gems in his "collection". Perhaps that's why the Guardians are on the run from cops if they have stolen the gems?

I can see the Collector having a multi film role. In the comics, a different Avenger disappeared in a different issue, giving the impression that he was collecting over a period of time and building up the mystery instead if happening all at once. That's what could happen over several films with the Collector making cameo appearances each time like SLJ until he has a full on role.

Depends on if the Infinity Gauntlet already exists or not.
Technically, it already *does* exist in the MCU, and was shown as one of the cosmic relics in Odin's Treasury in Thor. It was enough of a blink-and-you-miss-it easter egg that other writers and directors can retcon the whole thing and pretend it didn't happen; but for now, it is what it is.

i really think the collector wont hold up to sequels he wil just lead to the infity gauntlet cause he collects the gems....so i start to bet money on this deal benicio has with marvel ...he wont be the collector.....

I don't think he's going to be the Collector either. Just doesn't add up. And its such an underwhelming villain, its not even funny. An old guy who collects stuff, great. Might as well make it about my uncle Joe.

Well Benico does seem to be the Collector. And the Collector fits in entirely into the whole Thanos and even Korvac mythos so he's an apt villain. I hope that he is seemingly set up as the big bad (at least to audiences) only for there to be a twist and for the Guardians to find out that he's actually protecting people from the actual big bad who is Thanos.

The only problem though is that the Collector should have been abducting characters throughout various Phase 2 Marvel movies, so that it set up a mystery, only to be revealed in Guardians. Maybe we will see some abductees in Thor 2 hopefully, or even Cap 2 (but that might not be likely given its quite different tone from the cosmic stuff).
