No event will top Acts of Vengeance for me, it's that one event that didn't have the feel of an event.
Villains meetings in every title aside.

The only reason I read the first story in Spider-Verse Team-Up #02 is because my brother wanted to hear my feeble attempt at mimicking tones and voices, usually I annoy him with that, but this time he decided it should prove to be entertaining, and it entertained us both. Amazing 700 was a perfect spot to completely drop the Spider-Man title for me, I considered it the end to the main universe Spidey.

Did the movie version appear in this event? Maguire one, not the Garfield version.

I pick the end of Volume 1 (ASM #441) to be the end to the main Universe personally over the terrible end for Peter in Volume 2 (ASM #700). I just prefer a happy ending. :)

Going to let Spider-Verse pile up like I did with Superior Spider-Man and it makes for a much better reading experience. Have heard a lot of great things coming out of the event so it's getting tough to let these books pile up. :csad:

why not go the trade paperback route .?

Aloha,
What did you think of Amazing and Spidey 2099 this issue?Spider-Verse is heating up. Glad to see such a strong presence by the various Spider Ladies in the group.

I like all these Spider cameos but come on. They need more than three or four panels. Hated the lake of epic battle between Cosmic Spidey and Solus. I get it. They wanted a Whedon-esque shock moment. That being said, I wanted to see Solus contend with Leopardon's rocket fists or having the Sword Vigor hurled at him. No we get more "I'm unbeatable" rhetoric and out of scale panels drawn by the artist. That's a shame. I know. There's 40 pages of story jammed in 22. It would just be nice to see Solus struggle a bit.

Slott's obviously using the radioactive weakness JMS used in his first encounter with Morlun. But I don't get why these immortals would care about radioactive deaths. They just come back. Does radioactivity cut their connection to their power source? That I could understand why power hungry tyrants would fear the separation. Otherwise it just seems silly.

Who is the parent DNA Miguel was trying to tell Pete before Janus cut him off? Ezekiel's family? Spider totems gone rogue thinking they could rule the great web better? Surely they are not Osborns? That would be lame.

2099. Pretty uneventful. Who/what was Miguel having Alchemex WIP up a cure for? His super? Does this mean there is still some story for Miguel in 2015?

I have had some fun with Spider-Verse but admit it is loosing some momentum. It's nice to see a tease of the Inheritor fearing, spider totem salvation heralding prophecies. Too bad they didn't get a partial reveal.

Another thing that bus me about these all powerful players in this story...The Weaver erases Mrs. Solus from existence easily. However he get some magic shackles from Janus making him their slave? Seems weak.

Thwipp!

So are the events of Spider-Verse now moot considering that the Spiders who died would have died anyway with their worlds when Secret Wars starts in a couple months?

This Spider Verse event seems like a last hurray with the Spiderverse before it all just implodes with Secret Wars. It's had it's high moments, low ones, lame ones, and nostalgic ones.

It was not pleasant to see Slott's sadistic killings of beloved incarnations such as Spider-Man and friends as well as May's parents.

Any battle with Solus was lame.

Meeting Lady Spider, Spider-Gwen, and watching Superior Spider-Man Marshall the first team of resistance all pretty cool. Peter and SpOck having a moment of confrontation.

It spurred scavenger hunts of curiosity. I know very little about Supsidaman and Leopardon, but his cameo had me watching whatever videos on YouTube. I checked out the fun toys associated with that series. Reading about how the series came about. Fun little romp.

The story isn't epic but the experience sort of is.

(I'm going to repeat what I said on Spider-Man crawlspace….)

I just don’t understand the appeal of this arc. And this isn’t about me being a Slott hater. I enjoyed ‘Superior Spider-Man.’ But this Spider-Verse is more bloated and convoluted and non-grounded than anything that came out of the much maligned 90’s. How can people bash the clone-saga, when this makes it look straight-forward?

The main problem is this is not a Spidey story. I feel like I’m watching some overly crowded DragonballZ anime or something. I know it’s been a verrrrry looong time since Spidey stories were considered street-level or grounded, but why do we need these constant, universe-in-the-balance events? Why can’t we just have stories like Spidey taking down the Juggernaut, or saving a train full of passengers? Something that hinges on characterization and not ….. whatever this is….. I don’t even know how to define it…..

It’s ironic that a storyline called Spider-Verse has so little to do with the spirit of the Spider-Man comics. This is just a mess. I know at least half of this is probably Quesada's mandate, but it’s really time for Slott to go. A spider-writer hasn’t overstayed his welcome this much since Howard Mackie. Why can't someone write Spidey like how Mark Waid is writing Daredevil… small two-parters and three-parters that are grounded with pathos and characters that seem real….? It's not that hard.

Slott did a couple of those two- and three-parters before Superior happened (He even did a couple single stand alone issues that were awesome). I remember praising him for said stories.

I compared that stuff to what David Michelinie was doing in Amazing during his epic run. The Michelinie stories are what pulled me into Spidey comics in the first place.

What really makes me mad is the collection of stories I was looking forward to (stories centering around Peter dealing with the fallout of the Superior era) has been put on hold thanks to this "epic event" and now it looks like we will get only a month or two's worth of those stories now before the 616 is erased by Secret Wars.

agreed... Dan Slott has lost his way by completely losing what it is about the true spirit of Spider-Man... it's been a long time coming in that Slott has GOT to go... it's only been getting progressively worse under him and new blood is needed to bring Spidey back to earth... I USED to be a regular reader since the 1960's, but NOW this book is just a mess and completely unrecognizable to me, what with these 'major arcs and events', that when it comes down to it, AREN'T really... it all seems just a lot of flash with over-convoluted storylines that basically wind up with no real substance... they're just not memorable and never truly WILL be in Spider-Man lore...

I think in all fairness... Slott's time is up and HAS been for a long time now and it's time for him to step aside...... let Spidey hopefully regain his past glory under some new and fresh blood... I miss the real Spidey... and his idea and take on Spidey just ain't it any longer...

but then again, it probably won't really matter, what with what's coming up with the Marvel Universe... and to ME, it just seems like it's completely out of control and getting worse...

the wonder and magic and sense of adventure just isn't there and hasn't been for a long time... it's time to get Spidey back to his real roots...

just MY opinion, of course...

I'm not quite as harsh on Slott. But I've never been a fan of these alternate universes plotlines. There were a few things that were fun seeing, like the 60's cartoon universe, but all in all things get muddy.

Like what Will Nolte said, I looked forward to Pete dealing with the fallout of Superior. And his return seemed a bit quick. Didn't they say that the Pete left in SpOck was not really Pete but some echo? So now it IS Pete? I really thought the "soul molecule" was going to come into play.

I wish Slott would get back to the more grounded Pete/Spidey stories that relied on his vast continuity that he did so well.

Spiderverse feels like a prelude to what's happening with this Secret war that's coming up...

I just hope that these comics get alot more street-level after Spider-verse.

Speaking of Slott apparently he started using a bot on twitter that auto blocks people from a predetermined list. He was bragging about it so much that people were tweeting back to him asking him to stop talking about it because it had become annoying.

As it turns out this bot started blocking people that he had no intention of blocking. Not only did he have to get rid of it, but he had to tweet out an apology tweet and ask for people to let him know if their friend had been blocked today so he could remove them from his blocked list.

I found this pretty funny. Another example of Slott's ego getting the best of him yet again.

LOL. This has been quite the spectacle tonight. All he wanted to do was go watch Groundhog Day and write Surfer and he's been stuck apologizing and unblocking people for the last few hours. How long will it go on?

:lmao:

sounds like he IS getting full of himself...

I'm sorry, but his unprofessionalism is astounding. He seems to have a real disdain for any fan who disagrees with his interpretation of Spider-Man. He's up there with John Byrne in terms of his unwarranted egomania and condescension towards those that patronize his product. And his penchant for cursing and graphic insults…. I guess that's acceptable form for the public image of the guy writing Marvel's flagship character these days.

Aloha,
While I agree that Spidey needs to get back to the street level type of stories, I think people are forgetting just like during the days of Joe Q that Slott does NOT dictate the Spidey stories that are told. He runs ideas by Alonso and if they fit into his plans then they are a go. Now that JoeQ is out of the picture some fans don't know who to blame for the changes. It ain't JOEQ and it ain't Slott, it's Axel Alonso.

The thing is, all of these big crossovers were Slott's ideas. Slott has already stated that his intention with the book was to always do these stories. He pitched these ideas to Alonso and Alonso approved them, but it was Slott who ultimately had these ideas.

Aloha,
Understood, but if the stories that Slott wants to write don't jibe with Alonso's broader vision, they won't get done.Secret war and Battle World have been in the mix for some time. All stories done for the past year or more have to dovetail into that story arc. My point is that the buck stops with the Editor in chief not the writers.

then let's hope that Ass-ho Alonso gets the boot sometime soon... this guy sucks for EIC'ing the Spider-Man book...

Aloha,
I don't think that's going to happen since this guy and Breevort are going to be responsible for changing the Marvel U as we know it.:ikyn
