Sad, sad day when Slott has even driven away Tmob...

I stuck with Spidey through the Clone Saga, 2000s reboot that suddenly became not cannon, the Stacey twins, OMD/BND...Hell I came into the fold as the stupid robot parents of Peter storyline ended and Lethal Protector was starting...

Now I am feeling like Spidey is done for me...

It was was a nice long run, Pete, try to remember the good and not the bad...

:csad: first it was me, then T-mob and now you... what a rotten shame that all three of us and the one character that we love has come to this point... we've all held on as long as we could, but to no avail... it's just been a slow and agonizing spiral downwards to the point that Spidey is almost unrecognizable... and it's not just Dan Slott alone in the never-ending progression of the fool's parade that have contributed to the web-slinger's downfall, but so many other's before him... when Spidey entered the 90's, that's where it all started and slowly snowballed from that point, it just took about 20 years for the book to finally come to a screeching halt... it's true what they say that you can't go back home again... well, you CAN... by going back and rereading the classics from years past... at least we've got THAT... we'll all probably still stop by to take a look in here just to see what's up in the world of Spidey, but it just really won't be the same for us, I know...

RIP Spidey and the Spidey universe... maybe you'll have some luck and have better things going for you in the new upcoming Marvel/Ultimate universe... but I doubt it... for ME, this is your obituary as a character... wish I didn't have to write it... :csad:

For the record, it's not Slott's writing...

The last time I read a Slott Spidey book was Superior Spider-Man #31... and it was all very good...

New #1's have a nasty tendency to turn me off... as did last year's ASM #1... once you get more than 6 months behind... it's done...

Truthfully, barring a few gems here and there, I haven't really enjoyed Spider-Man much in about 25 years with the exception of some of BND AND Slott's Big Time & Superior...

And like I said earlier... when ASM #1 came out, my new daughter was about 6 months old, and my little boy just turned 3... I'm very sleep deprived, I'm going to be 48 this year, and most mainstream comics have suddenly started to bore the hell outta me... thank goodness for a few mature books from Image & other indies... and I'm getting those books via trades... makes for a better reading, and I don't worry about being gentle with my comics a la bags and boards and boxes...

Given my current life circumstances, I think giving up mainstream super hero comics was inevitable... hasn't happened yet... but it will...

Hope this clears things up...

I'm still here... :csad:

The robo-parents was my "jumping the shark" moment with Spider-Man. Prior to that I really enjoyed Spider-Man. Some stories I didn't like, but for the most part, I looked forward to reading Spidey. Some of my favorite eras were the post Gwen/Ross Andru 70's, the Hobgoblin 80's era, and the McFarlane/Larsen era.

But, with robo-parents, I hated the storyline and it followed other atrocious stories (you know, trying to replacing Pete in Clone Saga, reboot, Sins Past, OMD, etc). They're were some bright spots, like JMS's stuff prior to JRJR leaving. But I really thought Slott righted the ship starting with Big Time.

I think you were already complaining when Andru took over art (or was it Gil Kane) :oldrazz:

But I agree, starting in the 90's (robo-parents) when bad stories seemed to out number the good.

I'll admit, Spidey hasn't been as strong since Pete has come back. But a lot of that is I think Slott has been strong since Big Time and rolling into Superior. It was bound to let up. I am interested in Silk, but these alternate realities impinging on our 616 isn't my cup of tea. But, having been through the Clone Saga and OMD, it's not enough to make me jump ship. I look forward to the upcoming Gang War.

And, 'bats, I have to hand it to you. We're around the same age (I'm 50!) and with one kid getting ready for college and the other getting ready for high school, I couldn't even imagine going back to diapers phase! God bless you, 'bats! :cwink:

I still hope to see you guys' comments around these boards (like with Spidey FINALLY in the MCU! :yay:)

So this is officially the end?
Long time fans dropping the character, a reboot is about to hit, and this event was probably a mess from the get go.
I might have enjoyed the stuff have I gave it the time to read it, but I still think Amazing 700 was a great point to stop caring and consider the character story wrapped up.

And the idea of completely scrapping the character out of Marvel continuities seem more and more appealing.
Yes......

YES!!!!!!!!!!

Hatred is keeping me alive... The more crummy Spider-Man comics comes out, the more people will realize that the comicbook versions (all of them) is the worst versions of Spider-Man!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lower your voice, you're too loud.
And no, comic Spider-Man is the best version of the character.

Sorry... I just consider a lot of Spider-Man comics to be some of the worst superhero comics ever.
With 52 years of comics, at least 16 different titles, 50+ mini series and one shots, all the different scribes handling the character, and then titles from other worlds, it's not hard to find lots of bad comics for a character like this, but never enough to make the comic version bad.
The worst? You probably missed crap that easily worse than a lot of the bad Spider-Man stories. Lucky for you.

.

and I'm sure that there are some fanboys out there that are actually saying that it's a good thing and that it's sooooooo cool, man... thinking that this will give more freedom to the characters without continuity and history holding back the writers and Spidey characters themselves, thinking that will lead to better stories... BULLS**T... the creative people behind Spidey should know better and some of today's readers DON'T know any better... if that's the kind of Spidey you want, you can have it and keep it... I don't need it...

Preview for Spider-Verse Epilogue (ASM 15). Lots of focus on Mayday. Who do you think will be behind the door at the neighbors?

^I am implying that the bad Spider-Man IS part of worst comic books ever :3
Like the New Avengers? And events not focusing on the webhead?
Those are the moments with the worst Spider-Man.

Destroying him and completely taking him out is just my idea.
Had it for 6 or 7 years.

I finally just got my internet service back today (thanks to a huge screw up by my ISP, I didn't have service for a week). I just wanted to add that I whole heartedly feel Slott has to go. My limited internet access during the past week consisted of my 4G connection on my phone which I used to access facebook and twitter. Last night I had to unfollow Slott on twitter because my feed was filled with nothing but his rants about the whole black Spidey thing and him beating that horse to death. Slott made that more of an issue than it should have been and I am tired of that stupidity out of him.

Well.... It's pretty pointless for him to complain about ****** Spiderman comics O;

Slott could be the nicest guy in the world and he'd still be churning out the worst Spidey comics since the darkest days of the 90's. The fact he's arrogant, self-righteous and condescending towards Spidey fans certainly doesn't help matters.

Aloha,
Been on these boards for many years now and have met some great folks throughout the years. All Spidey fans. Sorry that some are quitting the web spinner. I can understand the sentiment. But if you go back throughout the years, this is not the first time that some have sworn off the title. I guess for me it's like a fan of a sports team. Whether they win or lose you still root for your team and hope that next season they'll come out on top.
"There are many people who cook with fire, I am a True Believer and a Keeper of the Flame."
Spidey will ALWAYS rule:spidey:

My issue with Spiderverse was with so many 'Spidermen" on each screen it was hard for me to know which one was which.

So, uhhh, one question....
Did this storyline officially kill clones?

So far it looks that the Ben Reilly in the story was killed, though no body was shown. Kaine be saw die, but we have seen that happen 10 times now...for some reason though, this feels more permanent.

As for killing off all the clones, one of the X-titles recently revealed that Mr Sinister created an army of Ben Reillys all in Scarlet Spider hoodie costumes.

I really hope Kaine comes back as he has been the most interesting Spidey in the 616 universe in a while.

Donald,

I love you like a brother. :yay:

I guess for me, my uncertainty will lie on exactly what happens with 616 Peter.

"He" is the Spider-Man I love... not Ultimate, not "new"Peter (if it comes to that). Will I give up comics forever and ever? Maybe. Maybe not. Like I stated, I'm currently sleep deprived, so once things "settle down", maybe I'll feel refreshed and ready to read Spidey books again...

I just need a break right now.

Keep in touch... we have our email addresses.

Mike

Spoilers for ASM #15 (came out today):

Kaine is alive. It shows him being reborn "The Other" style.

Also, spoilers for who is waiting for Mayday back at MC2:

MJ and Wes are alive! MJ saved Wes by pulling him out of the fire before the house collapsed. Also, Ben sticks around to be a grandfather. MJ gives Mayday her father's costume and Maday announces she is now Spider-Woman.

Completely agree Tmob. I really don't know why Marvel is so dead set on reinventing Spider-Man, when the REAL Peter Parker, Spider-Man has been so successful over the years.

Anyway speaking of Kaine, I just read ASM 15...

They show a human hand breaking out of the Other's shell just as Kaine has done in the past. Maybe Kaine will show up in the Secret Wars: Spider-Verse series...
