Iron Man 2 The Critics review Iron Man 2

I hope it is jmc, I hope that I completely disgree with the critics.

I'd kinda like to as well, I really enjoyed the first film. I really hope Marvel hasn't botched this up for the sake of Avengers, my biggest fear was always that this aim for single continuity thing was going to be detrimental to the characters. Guess I'll find out Thursday.

night,

Personally, I think this film will be good. It just won't be great, after the set up we got with Iron Man.

Admit it though, fans of Iron Man saw the same parallel with Batman. Both Iron Man and Batman Begins were surprise hits. Batman Begins was a surprise because it restored Batman. Iron Man was a hit because it took a lesser known character to the average audience and made him a player...a legitimate new superhero that audiences could love.

With The Dark Knight, Nolan blew the doors off what a film is this genre could do. Some may not admit it, but they wanted Iron Man 2 to be the answer to The Dark Knight.

It might even be that rebuttal. But, these reviews, so far, are slightly telling. I'm willing to be that the few that have been critical are being overly harsh just to grab headlines.

But, I also think Harry's review is a tad over the top. Waiting for Mr. Beaks on this one.

It's already clear that this will not be as well reviewed as the first.

I won't be too quick to conclude that....

And there seems to be no real major spoiler out yet? These reviews may be fake for all we know

Nope. I've never read an Avenger's comic and I'm not saying that the crossover thing doesn't work in the comics but I've never been a huge fan of it.

DC somehow pulls it off and I'd be more receptive to a JL movie but I still think that seems like too much of a cashgrab.

That tabloid review was poorly written and harsh.

Don't you think you're being a bit too dismissive about The Avengers movie? I think you should at least read about them before writing them off so soon.

Yea, you dont know what you're missing :yay:

Empire just tweeted that they're writing the review 'as we speak' and it will be on the site 'soon'.

For fun I'm going to guess their score right now: 3/5

Someone could have not seen the movie, and yet write those reviews.

Theres no review on anything that we havent already know. Like Whiplash final suit looks stupid or something

It stands to reason the the reviews aren't going to be as good as the first because both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, which gave the first one good reviews, gave this one negative ones.

Unless it picks up reviews from people who didn't quite like the first, the reviews are going to be worse.

Thats not to say that I won't like the flick but the reviews are clearly trending towards the disappointing.

I guess 4/5 , if they give halfs, then 3 1/2

lol.

Hmm... Makes sense.

But then theres the thing jmc mentioned where the fanboyism in fans just gets worked up and they love the movie alot

To be fair the Variety review isn't as harsh as The Hollywood Reporter one but it's not as good as the first.

I gave the first one an 8.5/10 so I obviously loved it but it wasn't the type of love others have for it. The fanboyish angle isn't going to hurt or help my opinion of the film. People always walk into movies with alot of baggage but I'm going to try to go in with as open a mind as possible.

Just read Variety's review, the phrase 'It'll do' isn't exactly glowing. Yikes.

Iron Man shocked... and it doesn't seem like Iron Man 2 will have that effect.

Thing is, i'd much rather a complete travesty of a film so it can be enjoyed in a "so bad its spectacular" way like spider-man 3. However, the way things look like for this one, it looks like we are gonna get, nothing bad nothing amazing, just middle of the road run of the mill. Which is my least favourite type of film.

I agree whole heartedly.

Not sure if this one was posted, it is a very positive review

Here's the thing about film criticism these days; no one, save for a few, go in depth about the filmmaking aspects of said particular film. I want a complete examination of what ever film is being reviewed. You just don't get that anymore.

As much as I don't like Devin from chud.com (It's a Marvel film so he's going to love it regardless), he'll at least get in depth with this film when he does review it....

I confirm. The movie is not great.
Is it good...hey I'm still trying to look on the brightside.

I don't think that Devin has a Marvel bias. He didn't love Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 and he didn't love The Fantastic Fout movies. He seemed to have a mild like for them but it was far from love.

Total Films verdict.
A hugely entertaining first act is let down by a lacklustre second in a sequel often more concerned with setting up future Marvel efforts than delivering on its predecessor’s promise.
God damn it.

jmc,

Exactly...

...and people wonder why DC hasn't jumped the gun quite yet...(even though we know they will).
