The Critics' Reviews of Spider-Man 3 Thread

The bad things I'm hearing about this film is that having the 3 MAJOR villians ruins the story basically. We'll see soon enough....

Yes, we will. :)

Although I never did quite understand why multiple villians is such an issue for some critics. It's not like they haven't been handled well before...but oh, well.

So basically the bad reviews are because of:
-There is more than one villain.
-The villains are not based on reality like the ones before.
-The movie has a dark tone, not like the ones before.
-Not enough spidey in the black suit.
-Not enough Venom screentime.
-Venom's fate.
-Giant Sandman.
-Dancing.
-Black spidey is not evil enough.
-Harry not having a Goblin mask of some kind.
-Harry not having his dad's glider.

^
It just sounds like that regular people who have never followed the comics and only recognize spidey from the previous movies are not use to seeing these type of villains that we are familiar with.

And it also sounds like fans of Venom really wanted to see black spidey longer, doing lots of bad things, plus seeing Venom alot longer than what they got and the way his fate turns out in this movie makes them even more angrier.

For me Harry's lack of a Goblin mask and a snowboard glider is a disappointment, but it wouldn't make me hate this movie because of it.

To put it simply, the movie is boring....even despite being overstuffed with so many things. You just lose interest. It's hard to explain...you just have to see it for yourself.

To be honest, I can't recall any critics really bashing Batman Begins, no more than Spiderman 2 anyway

The so-called "cream of the crop" ripped Batman Begins. Batman Begins only had a 63% rating among the top critics. By comparison SM2 had 95% cream of the crop rating.

So there were alot of folks that ripped Batman Begins, but I think most would agree it was a good film.

The scared competition thinks they smell their only opportunity to strike and are out on IMDB. The viewer comments are filled with attack dogs.

Spider-Fans should go to IMDB and vote "if you found this comment useful" and vote "yes" for the helpful ones and "no" for the idiotic ones. The comments with the best rating get rotated on to the main page. I hate seeing asinine comments on the main page. Leave your own review as well.

well it can be done if handled correctly. I think one of the things is the number of SUPER villians in a film compared to just average villians that are in minor supporting roles and not over the top or have superpowers or what not. Begins is a good example. There were multiple baddies in the film, yet were used in a more subtle way.

I refuse to believe that the action scenes are boring. From what I've seen in trailers and that 7 minute preview, the action seems to be more exciting than the 2 previous films. Yeah, I know it's your opinion, but I find this hard to believe.

Of course the action scenes aren't boring. But we're talking about 30 mins of action in a 139 minute long movie, and the parts with no action aren't particularly enjoyable to sit through, this time around.

Let me put it another way...to enjoy the 30 mins of great action, you also have to endure:

1 scene with Peter doing his SNL dance
1 scene with MJ and Harry doing the twist
3-4 god awful boring Aunt May lectures
5-6 scenes of Peter calling MJ and leaving a message, or MJ calling Peter, etc
and just a lot more of Peter/MJ romantic stuff that you just don't care about

They weren't that enjoyable in Spider-Man 2 either. But I really liked that movie, so I think I'll be ok with this one.

Some said the same about a lot of parts of SM2 was boring, I didn't agree, but it was said...a lot.

And the dance scene is going to be awesome. i can't to see that. Been hyping it up to everyone.

There is more story in number 2 than 3. So saying it gets boring because there is not enough action yet still love SM2 is backwards logic. It seemed like ages between the fights in SM2...especially after the bank fight.

I'm really dreading this. Some of this stuff I've read about what Peter does under the influence of the symbiote sound awful. Raimi has mentioned before that he didn't go with Spider-Man's black suit from the comics because the symbiote wouldn't have the "fashion sense" to alter Peter's red and blue costume into that. Yet under the influence of the symbiote, Peter decides to change his hairstyle and sense of style overall? Makes no sense.

i think sam shouldve left after the second movie...not saying he did a bad job but its nice to have some new blood... i'll be to old when they start fresh again like batman.... oh well

Your now trying to justify Spidermans poor reviews by comparing it to Empire?

I'm going to chime in here because - they are honestly critics who thought the previous villians were based on reality? All right, there was some sort of 'explanation' for what happened to them but it was all very TRUFAX science. I really don't see how Sandman is so much of a huge leap from a guy being controlled by the arms that got welded to his body or a man developing a split-personality from performance enhancers.

Just my opinion, of course. ;)

Hey there Miranda, don't see you round these ere parts often,

It must be important :woot::oldrazz:

Well, Begins was also layered. You had like 5 main bad guys, maybe 6. He had to work his way up the chain of command to bust their plot.

fake Ra's Al Guhl, Flass, Earle, Falcone, Crane, real Ra's Al Guhl

Every dang one of them was connected as a villain somehow. If you're wondering about Earle, just remember that he fired Fox for asking too many questions about the "lost" microwave emitter. My guess is Ra's paid him a crapload to let him "steal" the microwave emitter.

It almost sounds like the SM3 villains are completely separate and so the story is chaotic.

There wasn't much going on at the TDK board. ;)

As to what you said about reviews - not that seeing those Empire reviews wasn't interesting but yes, it does feel like the same things get brought up everytime a film doesn't do too well. Honestly, the only opinion that should matter is your own.

Exactly, Begins was a well crafted story. Spiderman is more the journey of Parker and the characters around him

KYG and Gothamcentral, killed the fun over at the Art thread.

Fanboys (spiderman one's in general) have a tendency to attempt to justify the movies faults when someone points them out. It's one big web of denial (punn intended) when your a spidey fan

Once again, this place was nothing but a massive nest of negativity until production for Spider-man 3 really kicked in.

I expect it will soon happen again.

If Spider-man 3 disappoints, I'll survive though.
