The Critics' Reviews of Spider-Man 3 Thread

It's 12:50 PM/CST. Rotten Tomatoes has Spider-Man 3 at 69 % user fresh. It was 79 % at 9 AM/CST yesterday. It has loss 12.6 % since yesterday before it opened here. Has gone up to 62 % from 61 % fresh with the critics. It is tied with X-Men 3 at 69 % user fresh. X-Men 3 was 57 % fresh with critics.

Or maybe, just maybe, Spider-Man 3 and POTC2 were weaker films than their predecessors, as I and others I know feel.

People seem awfully quick around here to concoct conspiracy theories when things don't go their way.

I conceded that SM3 is a weaker film then its predecessors. I just wonder about it going from over 90% approval ratings for the first two down to barely above 60%. It seems critics may have been harsher because they had higher expectations due to the first two movies rather if this had simply been the first movie in the series and they went in with no expectations.

As for Pirates I just don't see the difference between one and two. Same characters same basic story structure. Just never got what the big difference was.

You completely missed the point of what those scenes were conveying. It was SUPPOSED to be embarrassing but he didn't care, he felt good and confident enough to look and act like a derranged jackass.:o

Why are people not getting this? :whatever:

You guys take things WAY too seriously......

From what I have been reading on the boards I was anticipating a really stupid out of place dance scene, like it was going to be a whole entire number. But it was not. It was a quick dance scene, it wasnt even that bad, it was humorous and that was that. You guys take things waaaaayy too seriously omg, just chill out and enjoy it and stop trying to nit pick on everything, cause trust me you will find it.

For people who didn't enjoy this movie...I say go watch Batman & Robin, :)

Wow. I found Spidy 2 boring and the movie just dragged. But it seems this one is just getting pegged. I thought for sure it would be the love of many critics lives. But O well...

Have you seen sm3? I feel exactly the way you do about sm2 and I think sm3 is the best of the 3 movies, its a very good movie.

b/c they were cheesy as hell and just sad. they coulda made dark peter so much better.

I am so confused at some of the defenses I've come across at various sites. "It's supposed to be silly!"..."I loved the camp!"..."They just didn't take themselves as seriously as the last films. They had fun with it!"...

We all remember what happened when Batman had too much "fun with it!", right? Arnold in a Mr. Freeze suit with nipples that were specially crafted for his suit...

I think Roeper put it perfectly. I could not agree with someone more.

~HoH~

This is where the problem lies with most. This isn't the Crow or some dark, twisted graphic novel, it's Spiderman. He isn't supposed to go around mugging or kicked old women, the symbiote is supposed to give him confidence and heighten his ego that he was gaining from his popularity, not make him evil. Venom was evil because it fed off Brock's hatred for Parker simple as.

The dance scene is still good ol Peter Parker, he's just not ashamed anymore of his nerdy actions.

He kills Sandman, brags about it to Aunt May, punches MJ, and acts like a *****ebag to pretty much everyone...how much more evil do you need Spider-man to get? Is he supposed to go on a homicidal rampage?

no it wasn't. I enjoyed the dancing scenes, and the way it ended with Peter hitting MJ MORE THAN nullified the whole cheesiness.

It went up to 62% on rottentomatoes guys. To think a week ago, we were whining about 80%, now I just don't want it to fall below 60%.

Get over it the film is a suckfest.

He doesn't kill sandman, he looks for Aunt May to be relieved that Ben's killer had been punished which he regretted when he saw May didn't believe that we choose who dies, he pushed her in a moment of adrenaline. I know alot of *****ebags, I wouldn't consider any of them evil.

Well, I, um...was agreeing with you, that Spider-man got as evil as Spider-man can get...but thanks for pointing all that out.

I'm glad you were agreeing with me, but you were still wrong :cwink: :oldrazz:

Just checked at Rotten Tomatoes. It is now at 68 % user fresh. It's now 1 % below X-Men 3. It has loss 11 % since yesterday, before it opened. :csad:

I thought everybody would love spider-man......never thought it would get this much mixed reviews.....

I agree completely. I expected to see what was depicted in the movie.

Heh i knew very early on when they wanted venom and the black suit story that raimi's original vision for sm3 was going to be ruined.... i guess the venom fans got what they wanted and look at how it played out, a rushed movie with about 100 coincidences at every corner. I need to rewatch sm1 and sm2 in order to wash away the bad memories of this movie. Let me just say parts of it werent total losses but overall its a major disappointment for me. I still remember that warm summer day in 2004 when i and my friends were in the theathers, everyone was so into sm2 that it felt like we, the audience, were living in THAT world. The awesomeness, the amazement, and just being-like-a-kid-again feeling was not felt after i left spiderman3. I can only dwell on how sm3 would have turned out if raimi was left to do the story on his own without pressures from the studio execs. We'll never get the real spiderman3 now, i can only hope spiderman 4 can make better of whats left of this series.

Last time I checked Rotten Tomatoes it was 62%. I agree with you that SM2 is better. But 62% is just absurd. It deserves a higher score in my opinion.

It is more interesting the fact that the users tomatometer is under the 70%
