BTW Im christian and im curious to see what such a big deal about this movie!!! :)

It's such a controversy because the book makes an accusation that the Catholic church engineered a massive cover-up of a little-known fact of Biblical history. It's written in a way that makes it seem like the Catholics are the bad guys, so expect a gargantuan backlash from the Vatican.

Im protestant so I dont mind the Catholics being the bad guys:D

I'm a protestant christian, and the book is about as threatening to me as Harry Potter. The author aknowledges that it's a work of fiction and not intended to be taken seriousely, which is quite apparent seeing as the story involves THE HOLY GRAIL (which does not exist).

Anybody know when The Da Vinci Code will be released in paperback? I don't feel like giving Brown $17 and using up some of my shelf space.

I also wish they would have done Angels & Demons first. The Science vs. Religion argument is a more potent debate today where as Jesus fathering a child is a subject people could care less about because it isn't true.

Oh well, maybe they'll pull the same thing with these books with Langdon like they with Tom Clancy's novels and Jack Ryan. They had three (I believe) different actors play the same character and the adaptations didn't come out in chronological order. Maybe we'll get an Angels & Demons movie one day.

I agree, I too think Angels & Demons was the far better book. The Da Vinci Code gets more recognition as it had a lot of controversy on being published. Angels & Demons is the better book, it has the better story and certainly raises more important questions.

Also, the book is already released in paperback form, that's the copy I own.

Originally posted by Darthkushdoes anyone have a synopsis of what the book actually is? All i've gathered from you guys' post is that some scientists research some rumors that jesus and mary magdalene had a baby in secret and that their are clues to the holy grail in the da vinci's mona lisa? Is that right? is that the general gist of it?

Harvard professor Robert Langdon recieves an urgent late night phone call while on business in Paris. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been brutally murdered inside the museum. Alongside the body, police have found a series of baffling codes. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, begin to sort through the bizzare riddles, they are stunned to find a trail that leads to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci-and suggest the answer to a mystery that streches deep into the vaults of history.

Unless Langond and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine code and quickly assemble the pieces of the puzzle, a stunning historical truth will be lost forever...

I am not religious in any way. I wouldn't go so far to say I am an athiest but I do question most things that have been printed in the Bible and have been told to us throughout the years.

The Da Vinci Code is relativly harmless. It merely takes a 'What If' approach to the story of Jesus. It's nothing to be taken seriously. And the fact that the Vatican are so pissed about and make their anger known worldwide, does nothing more then help this bok reach more hands. The can be said for the movie when it is eventually released.

Although, I have watched some documentries on the subject, and some people (including Priests), suggest that some of the claims made in the book are not as far fetched as some would have us believe.

Just finished reading Angels & Demons. Just started Da Vinci Cde. Really good so far. Which was better, Angels or Da Vinci? A lot of ppl say Angels & Demons. I hope they make that! Of course it is to late since it comes b4 Da Vinci and that is being mae first

Any updates on this film? I really looking forward to this.

I'm amazed that this movie isn't getting more hype right now. Remember the buzz about The Passion about 5 to 10 months before it was released? You couldn't turn on the TV without seeing a Jewish Rabbi or a non-christian Christian bashing the flick before it even came out. I guess people realized when you give a movie that much free press then people get REALLY interested, which, inturn, becomes massive profits.

Looks great! And Tom even looks a bit like how I remember the main character! *Forgot his name...* Robert! Robert Langdon!

Which is interesting, because I'm a Protestant Christian as well and I'm not threatened by Harry Potter at all.

Anyway...I don't understand why a lot of people get so pissed off about this book..

Okay, scratch that, I DO understand, but at the same time, a.) It's a work of fiction, so people who get in a huff or allow it to change the way they look at life are just wasting their time. b.) If Jesus married and had a kid, from a Biblical standpoint, that's not a sin. I don't personally believed he was married, but if he was then he was in the clear, because the Bible is very clear on things like marriage and the like.

As for the temple thing...yeah, he trashed the market in the temple, and he was pissed, but anger in itself isn't a sin, it all depends on what you do in your anger. Jesus got all of the people defacing the temple out of there by throwing tables around...not sure if throwing a table is a sin, but I'm pretty sure he didn't injure anyone. ;)

Hmm, so now a game's coming out. They are really turn this into something big. Ah well, I have been a huge fan of the Broken Sword series, so having Charles Cecil on board is a huge bonus from my point.

One of the most anticipated films of next year is no doubt Ron Howard's adaptation of Dan Brown's mega bestseller THE DA VINCI CODE. As you may recall, the film stars Tom Hanks as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who teams up with French cryptographer Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) in an effort to unravel a mysterious puzzle hidden in Da Vinci's paintings which could dismantle the Catholic Church. There was a teaser released earlier this year, which wasn't too exciting considering it was released about a month before filming even started. Principal photography on the film is over (or at least it should be), though, and we can confirm, thanks to our man Alex, who kicks ass updating the trailer page, that the first full trailer for DA VINCI will be attached to KING KONG. Not that you needed any other reason to watch Peter Jackson's interpretation of the giant ape but if you did, well, there you go. Hanks tries to crack the code May 19th.

Good to hear, just a litle bonus when wating King Kong.

How the crap are they supposed to make a videogame out of this?

Well I suppose they'll be using the engine for Broken Sword 3. An adventure style game, with a heavy emphasis on puzzle solving.

i ahve a question for you guys... do you think they will make a angels and demons movie with tom hanks if this is a hit?

I hope they do, I feel it's a far superior book to The Da Vinci Code. I understand why they have made TDVC first, but I hope they do. And in todays day and age, if TDVC is a hit, there will be an A&D movie.

Cool,Da Vinci Code and Miami vice trailers with Kong:up:

There's a movie version the Frank Peretti bestseller "This Present Darkness" floating around somewhere in pre-production hell (or "backburnered", whatever term you want to use). It'd be cool if Hanks were in it, but I really have no clue where the movie is at this point. It doesn't even show up at IMDB! :(

What I mean by non-christian Christian is someone who doesn't know they're Bible very well and merely grips to get attention. That and someone who believes it's wrong to film our Lord's sacrifice.
