The Daily Beast decides to out closeted athletes at the Olympics

I don't say this lightly... but in this case alone, **** Free Speech. Free Speech doesn't give you the right to put peoples lives in danger.

the bastards that did this should be prosecuted for endangering the lives of the people they outed.... and if any harm comes to them, they should be held FULLY accountable for it.

absolute horrific what the Daily Beast have done here. people will die because of this and closeted gay younger athletes, especially from the countries that are ****heads over this, will be discouraged heavily from taking part in the sport they love.

Who the hell ok's something like this? What accounts for journalism these days is mind blowing.

That's the other part of this. His editor ought to be in just as much trouble as Hines. Even if there were no danger in outing closeted athletes that like to participate in online hookups, what's the journalistic merit in it?

Again, completely unethical but people also have to realize that the internet and apps are public information. Nobody held these people's feet to the fire and made them disclose that information on a public platform. I think this is the lesson we can learn from this. It's one of the reasons I don't really do much social media, certainly no Facebook.

D*ck move, but US tabloids try to out celebrities all the time and usually have the incriminating photos to back it up.

Yea, but some of these athletes live in countries with anti-gay laws, which makes this even worse.

And what crime are you going to charge him with exactly? He accessed information that the Olympians made public on the app. The guy is scum, but he didn't break any laws. Nobody is saying he shouldn't be charged because of his ignorance, he shouldn't be charged with any crimes because...well no crime was committed.

Manslaughter. Similar to if trump's comments about assassinating Hilary Clinton ended up with someone actually killing her than he could be held criminally liable

This is something people still haven't come to terms with. The internet is a public place and you have the choice of what to say and what to do in it. This act was unethical, but no laws were broken.

Sorry, but....no...not even close. Again, they distributed the information on a public platform. That's where he got this information, it's not like he stole the information or spied on these people. The internet is not private.

What an incredibly low thing to do. Anything that comes their way is much deserved for all people involved in the decision to publish this, including The Daily Beast as a whole.
