When it comes to geek cinema I think Joker in TDK is a on a tier all by himself if I'm being honest.

Thanos was great sure and he had a commanding presence on screen, but his evil plan might be the worst in the history of evil plans. I never fully bought into his motivation nor could I even bother to understand it.

In fact I might be in the minority here but I enjoyed him more in Endgame than I did IW. If only because he left the tortured savior stuff behind got right down to being a vicious tyrant.
Thanos in Endgame wwas absolutely fantastic and threatening.

Is there a problem or something ? Because I've made a lot of versus thread, including A1 vs IW and many things besides that. I'm just curious and want to see people debate about two movies, that's all.

Well as you can see if you read the posts of this thread, people are getting sick of these kinds of threads where every half way decent CBM is being pitted against TDK. If you look at your own thread history, you'll also see you've made many. If you recall I even asked you some time last year what was your hang up with making vs TDK threads because you'd made so many. I couldn't wrap my head around why one person would do that.

I empathize for sure. While I enjoy TDK I definitely think it's become massively overrated by it's fans to the point of absurdity. It's far from perfect.
I don't think they overrate this movie, but when compared to it a lot of good CBMs are shunned and are frowned upon in these polls, they make it sound like even the best of them is 'flavor of the week' variety.

I say that as someone who most of the time votes TDK cause it's the movie I personally prefer.

If anyone getting sick of this so simply ignore the thread. It's that simple. And I made many vs thread because I like to, it's not against the rule and it's fun to see people discussing. Moreover, Endgame is arguably as much critical acclaim as TDK, it's considered one of the best CBMs by many and the score and many things indicate that it could be. So I see nothing wrong with making the thread.

Moreover, I only make TDK vs Endgame and TDK vs Black Panther. Just 2. How is that too many ? Both Black Panther and Endgame are arguably even more critical acclaim than TDK.

I'll go along with that, but then I'm in the "Ledger's performance was the only thing remarkable about the movie" camp.

Hmm... I wouldn't go that far. Granted the Joker is easily the best thing about the movie, but it goes beyond just Ledger. It was an extremely well written character.

He really was the ultimate villain. I'm not sure if he can ever be topped. Speaking strictly in terms of 'geek cinema' of course (superhero / sci-fi / action / fantasy / etc..)

Nobody said it was a rule or against any rules. If it was you'd be in trouble or banned by now. People are simply sick of it. There's tons of movies that are considered great CBMs and have great critical acclaim. Logan, Black Panther, Avengers, Civil War, Infinity War, Winter Soldier, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man 2 etc......they've all had vs threads against TDK, and the results are always the same. Every time. You're bringing nothing to the table here with these threads. There is nothing that has not been said before in every vs TDK thread.

Yeah people can ignore the thread. Doesn't change the fact they are still sick of seeing them pop up whether they choose to read them or not.

I'm not just talking about vs TDK threads with other CBMs. I'm talking about making all sorts of threads that pit TDK vs something, whether it was against other Batman movies, action scenes etc. Furthermore the critical acclaim reason has no credibility here. Black Panther is higher critically than both Endgame and TDK. Where is your versus thread for that against Endgame if critical acclaim is such an important factor for you in making these threads?

Furthermore critical acclaim means diddly squat to people here. For example;

Thor: Ragnarok(2017) vs Black Panther(2018) vs CA: The Winter Soldier

Batman Begins vs Black Panther

97% critically acclaimed BP being out voted by the 90% Winter Soldier, and the 84% Batman Begins. So the critical acclaim reasoning doesn't hold. It has no bearing around here when it comes to movies people love.

I really don't understand how you can get mad at such a simple thing like this ? I made Endgame vs IW and 3 or 4 threads about The Avengers, not just TDK.

And it's not my excuse or anything. Why do I even need an excuse for making a thread ?

Who's mad? Nobody's mad. For the third time people are just sick of seeing these kinds of vs TDK threads. Sick of them, not angry at them.

You decided to tell us why you make these kinds of threads. Nobody asked you to go and explain yourself here.

See you said you’re not angry but your aggressive tone in the comment proves the otherwise.

But if you’re really not angry than it’s all fine. Can we move on ?

Apologies if I gave you an aggressive vibe, it was not intentional.

Sure move on.

You did gave me that vibe and that’s fine I know it’s not intentional :D so it’s okay mate.

The more I watch TDK, the more I realise its pacing problem.

Endgame has much better pacing.

Would it be fair to say that you’re not much of a fan of The Dark Knight, and you create these vs polls in the hopes that something will get more votes than it, which will make you happy?

TDK is my favorite CBM which I watch once every 3 weeks. It’s my favorite movie besides Goodfellas.

So no it’s not fair.

Short answer: Look at my name :funny:

Fair enough! I guess you’re happy it usually wins then :yay:

For me the film flatlines without Ledger on the screen, it's OK but it's not on the same level as his scenes. And the whole Joker loses because that prisoner throws the detonator thing always make me laugh lol

Can i just say that this scene still gives me chills to this day? I'm ALWAYS on the edge of my seat as the Joker drags himself out of the downed tractor trailer. It's such an incredibly directed scene with Joker taunting Batman, who ultimately ends up disappointed that Batman didn't run him over. Easily one of my fave scenes ever.

The barge scene is where the film lost me. More bleakness, this time in Game Theory form!

Forgetting the fact that our wonderfully acted and clearly superhuman villain was once again able to transport thousands of gallons of explosive gasoline without detection. Wouldn't someone have questioned whether or not Joker switched the detonators?

He's proven to be pretty manipulative and convincing to have soldiers under his thumb, and he could be threatening. So I'll give the gasoline bit a pass.

TDK out polling Endgame - and Avengers, Black Panther, Wars both Civil and Infinite and every other frikkin' comic book movie that's ever been made or ever will be made until the heat death of the universe - is this board's version of Jethro Tull winning the Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance over Metallica.

Nope, its more like this board's version of Stevie Wonder winning "Album of the Year" three times, and beating the likes of Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Roberta Flack, Elton John, John Denver, and George Benson in the process.
