We're going to do ['The Dark Tower'] with HBO. We'll do the TV with HBO, and we'll do the movie with… to be determined. We'll do it right.

****ing awesome.

Match made in heaven, HBO or AMC are prob the only networks that could get away with some of the content in the series.

Great news but I already started a thread for this when the tv show annouced. :D

I want HBO to adapt IT as a miniseries.

It's too bad they're not making a movie afterall. I suppose HBO will do a good job with it.

Glad to hear the project's still alive and HBO is a damn fine choice with a great track record, so that's also good news. Got my fingers crossed that this turns out well.

People! They are still doing the movies! Plan is the same as before, 3 movies with a series bridging the gaps in between them. That is, unless they have decided not to do that

To tell u the truth I think its better as a series anyway. I mean look what HBO is doing with Game of Throns

I'm going to reserve getting excited until they actually start filming something this time.

I doubt HBO would agree to that arrangement, unless they are part of the production for the movies (which I don't see happening).

Read the quote. HBO does the TV, movie with 'to be decided.'

I'll believe it when I see it, but I think there's a reason why they decided to strike a deal with HBO instead of going ahead with their initial plan of a full-featured movie.

This could actually work out better than if they'd just made some movies. You've got seven books of dense material that all deserve accurate adaptations.

so how will this work? Will it be a TV series that leads into a movie?

I doubt there will be a movie if they are making DT books into a series.

The way it's going to go is that they're going to make three Dark Tower movies and two seasons of the Dark Tower to bridge between the movies. HBO is the television partner while they haven't found a production company yet for the films (though it seems likely that Warner Bros. will step up for it).

I bet you the movie never happens and they just make it a Game of Thrones style TV series.

TV series bridging movies in active production like that, very ambitious. I'm not sure it can work. Budgets could get out of control especially if you want the TV to be of comparable quality to the movies with similar actors.

A lot of big actors seem eager to act in productions by HBO, because, for the most part, they deliver quality programming. Look at some of their shows or mini-series: Carnivale, Band of Brothers, Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Rome, The Pacific. They all had movie quality production, and all The Dark Tower would be is a mash-up of all of those. So I think this is without a doubt the best possible outcome for this adaption, because I honestly don't see the movie being a huge hit in the US, elsewhere perhaps, but not in the US.
