Fantasy Mike Flanagan's Adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower'

Well, that was a depressing and fascinating read. Some of the changes he made are surprising but I can see why he made them; it’s kind of a way to begin with Wizard & Glass but also tie it in with The Gunslinger and the classic opening line. But I think what really makes it heartbreaking is the fact that Mazzara really seems to understand this world and this story and tried to make a show that was faithful to the books, instead of just a POS cash grab like the movie. I think there’s a good chance this pilot will get leaked somewhere, especially now that some images have been released with this article. I hope so; I would really like to see what they put together.

Interesting info about Mike Flanagan and what’s coming. What do you think about Flanagan and The Dark Tower.

Only person besides Flanagan that should even be considered to adapt this is Darabont. But yeah, I’d be hella glad to see him make a series of this… Or any other King adaptations.

This is too amazing to be true.

But PLEASE let it happen.

Haven’t watched much of Flanagan’s stuff but he always gets praised so him tackling this would be good with me.

I didn’t love his last one the way everyone else did but it DID feel very much like a classic Stephen King story (the influence was clearly there). So Flanagan potentially taking on The Dark Tower would REALLY get me hyped. Does Amazon still have the rights to it? If so, that might be an issue since Flanagan seems to work exclusively with Netflix.

Since he tends to reuse certain actors, it makes me want to do some fancasting. His wife Kate Siegel will definitely have a role, though I’m not sure who she would play. You also have to assume Henry Thomas and Carla Gugino would show up somewhere. Hmmm…

Roland: Thomas Jane
Eddie: Brenton Thwaites
Susannah: T’Nia Miller
Jake: Jacob Tremblay
Walter O’Dim: Hamish Linklater
Father Callahan: Bruce Greenwood
Richard P. Sayre: Henry Thomas
Steven Deschain: Michael Trucco
Gabrielle Deschain: Carla Gugino
Mia: Kate Siegel
Rhea of the Coos: Samantha Sloyan
Susannah: Annalise Basso
Eldred Jonas: Zahn McClarnon

The only thing I'll miss is Idris's Roland.

I used to fancast Javier Barden as Rowland and I still think he can do it

I'm just too used to seeing him as a gruff bad guy, though he is a fantastic actor. :)

Yeah that’s why I love him for this. I mean, it’s not like Roland is a 100% good guy

As long as Rowland sends Nelly a message on Excel, I‘m fine

Deschain is just enough edge-lord to work as a new baby name. :p

Abra, Danny & Rose To The Dark Tower Go?

Mike Flanagan spoke to Script Apart Podcast about his ideas for The Dark Tower and it turns out he want to add characters from The Shining and Doctor Sleep to The Dark Tower universe.

“Abra Stone in the Dark Tower universe, as a Breaker [telepathic agent], is really interesting,” he says. “There’s a character in The Dark Tower named Dandelo, who I think is a cousin of the True Knot, who’s this emotional vampire but who feeds on laughter instead of fear. But there’s room in that world for the True Knot themselves, there’s room for Rose The Hat. There might be room for Danny Torrance.”

What do you think, should Abra, Danny and Rose The Hat be in The Dark Tower adaptation? Personally I don’t think so. They are fine in their own world and not everything King has written are connected to The Dark Tower

I haven't read Doctor Sleep, but I remember the movie. I need to brush up on my King novels. :hmm:
