The DC characters REDESIGN thread

No, I'm talking about Miller's actual movie script called "Batman: Year One". I know the comic. I have it. It's a favorite of mine. But Frank did indeed write a script that made some crazy departures from the normal Batman origin story. Namely the whole junkyard scenario, the "Big Al" character, and some other stuff, like how he comes up with the idea to base his vigilante persona on a bat.

If I remember correctly, this was the project that got the ball rolling on what eventually ended up as Batman Begins. Miller and Darren Arnofsky were hired to reboot Batman, and the plans were to do it on a smaller scale and budget, almost borderline indie film style. It was that aspect that drew Christian Bale to the idea of a Batman film. Miller and Arnofsky were ditched in favor of Nolan though, and Nolan convinced Bale that it could still be done with a larger budget, a more high profile project, and still be dark/serious/gritty, and the rest is kinda history...

Oddly enough though, by the end of this script, he still ends up the classic Batman we know, in possession of the Wayne fortune and all the trappings that come with it.

I hesitate to link to the script, but it is readily and easily available with a google search of "Frank Miller Batman Year One Movie Script", but here's a link to a review that talks about some of the craziness that occurs in it:

Anyway, BACK TO THE REDESIGNS!
That is indeed a superb Supergirl.

cool find. thanks for sharing. i read the scirpt/review before, i didn't remember that it was actually co-written by miller.

interesting story because he is still a billionaire rich boy, he just comes in not telling anyone to fight from the bottom up. i must say, i kinda like it.

I think that is the background from the first picture released of Brandon Routh as Superman

Bit of a viewers choice piece of casting. Enjoy folks!
This is probably the first thing I've seen from you that I wasn't fully onboard with. I'm not exactly sure why--the dark areas of the costume strike me as a little superfluous. The separated skirt is interesting, but the way the top disconnects the belt from the buckle to complement it is jarring. Maybe if the separated part of the skirt were darker...?

What can I say? A plain single toned blue is too boring for my liking, call it unnecessary garnishing if you like, I just like the idea of the 'super' outfits having a bit more design to them.

I swear you're a hollywood designer only better:up:

Have you done a Superman JMC I can't remember.

Wow, great redesigns on DC characters, guys! Especially you JMC, you're so professional. :D

Well, that and the Fantastic Four movie costumes are made that way. You're not the only designer on these boards, homie.

That being said, it is really well-done.

JMC, you are so awesome at designing great costumes. You have the mind of a proffesional movie costumes designer! :D I would like to see you do Hyper someday. :)

Here's some manips I made recently from 4chan...We thought that Batman without briefs was kinda weird so I gave him the harness and black belt. And then we didn't like that Superman didn't get an updated costume at all and that's what he came with for him. What do you guys think?

i know compared to some of the insane art that gets posted here my stuff looks like scribbles but hey at least i am trying . sorry for getting lazy on the chainmail

this is my interpretation of what the green lantern would have looked like if he found the ring in medieval times. its goes along with my medieval superman, maybe i will do a flash to.

anyway this is the KNIGHT OF THE EMERALD LANTERN. i though it would be cool if he carried his power battery on a haft. also "lumen" is latin for lantern its also how we measure the power of light by the human eye so i thought it would fit with the knight theme

That's cool. I love the medieval take on characters. I did a whole bunch back in the day, if I can get around to it, I think I might post a couple for fun :)

Yeah I colored in Photoshop

I have two suggestions. Both involving layers.

Assuming you have the pic done up as a bunch of layers, what you're gonna want to do is make sure all you see is the guy himself, no text, no background. Then merge visable [or, if you have the person himself in just a group, then just duplicate the group and merge it down together into a single layer.

Suggestion 1: Change the fill opacity to 0. Go to "Blending options", and add a 1px stroke to the image, having it line INSIDE, not outside. That should take care of the little bit of white trim around the image.

OR

Suggestion 2: Change the background to something else, like he's flying above a castle. Using the flattened image, go to blending options, and give him a green outer glow, inner glow, and stroke [2px center, or just toy with it]. This will give you the illusion that he's flying. It's what I did with my GL Drakatar:

Is there a thread where we can see all the Drakatars? I love that you change it so much but I've missed so many.

nah man i flattened the image, sorry. i can just do the pic again, i might even redraw it when i do my medieval JLA . i have a few good ideas for batman and the flash but martian manhunter is gonna be tough

Hehe. No, there isn't. You're like the third person this week to ask about that. :p
