Now, before anyone gets all fired up at me creating this thread, knowing full well there is an individual Superman forum. But hear me out and consider leaving this thread open or not trolling it so you can complain about there being an indiviual Superman forum.
From the time I became a member of the hype, there is no doubt in mind that the Superman forums had been, was, and always will heated, more so than any other forum, and I've come across alot of members who don't want to put up with that anymore, or atleast not on a regular basis. So I figured, why not open up a thread for Superman lovers in the DC Films sedction. A safe haven for members who just want to story, casting, and the crew itslelf for the next film, with none of the stuff that comes out of the Superman forum that goes with suggestion and debating. So please, see it as a save haven.
Anyway, if anyone knows what I want in the Superman flick, you know that I want an adaption/combination of Superman: The Animated Series and Birthright, with a touch John Byrnes Man of Steel. I would tone down the Donner homages, thats for sure. That was my one problem with Birthright, other than Soul vision.
I'd like to see someone like Nicholas Meyer write the script, does the guy have alot of films to his name, no. But he is still a helluva writer, and Meyer immerses himself in the character he is writing about. I'm sure that in the same way he watched Star Trek: WOK, Meyer would sit down, watch TAS, and read Birthright. Again, not Directing, just writing the script.
As far as a Director is concerned, I want to say that in a fantasy world of mine I see Peter Jackson directing Superman, and I would happily give up Meyer to get Jackson on board. With that being said, I don't think Jackson will come close to Directing a Superman movie. Sadly, I have yet to come up with a more conservative, lesser known Director. More on that later, I suppose.
For the role of Superman, I want Henry Cavill, but I'm also willing to thin outside the box to find the next guy for the job, perhaps a George Reeves type, only younger, happier about playing Superman, and not dead. For Lois, I want Jordana Brewster or Anne Hathaway. For Lex Luthor, I'd like to see Jason Isaacs in the role, my other choice has gone crazy at the moment, and by that, I mean Jaquin Phoenix. Jim Caviezal should play Jor-El, as well as Braniac because I have my own little fantasy storyline that features Braniac taking on Jor-El's appearence. Braniac as a whole would be close to the Liquid Metal type Braniac from Smallville, but would still get ripped down to the robotic TAS Braniac for the last fight scene. R. Lee Ermey and Chris Marquette are my Perry and Jimmy choices, Craig Sheffer should be Jonathan Kent because Kyle Chandler looks to much like an old Kryptonian, Brent Spiner should play Dr. Hamiliton, Elisabeth Rohn as Maggie Sawyer, Robert Englund as Morgan Edge, Alexander Skarsgård as Metallo, and I will bring up more later. This cast is somewhat unconventional choices for certain, but it would make for a great movie.
I want the new film to be a complete reboot, an origin story with Braniac as the sole threat, not even showing Lex Luthor, just mentioning him a few times during the movie. I'd set Lex up to be the Metropolis Golden boy and savior, and the only person who doesn't buy it would be Lois Lane, and Lois Lane is enough to convince Superman that Lex is evil. I would bring in the President Luthor storyline in the sequel, with Metallo as the muscle.
Flame away, but I would use an altered version of the Superman X suit, the one with the red/yellow gloves, red/yellow boots, and red shoulder area's on the suit with a collar around the neck, and the yellow belt with blue undies. I would simply return the shoulder color, as well as the collar color, back into the original blue, and then add the red cape. I know most fans disagree, but I like the more uniform look and it would make this Superman stand out and on his own two feet, in a way of course.
