The Defenders The Defenders General Discussion Thread

Netflix wants to release original content every week so I could see 2017/2018 having 3-4 Marvel shows out each year. Just like Marvel is shifting to 3 films a year in 2017. Each quarter could have its own Marvel series.

Is this an exaggeration or did you actually hear this somewhere? Because Netflix television is some of the only good television right now lol.

House of Cards, Marvel, OITNB

Meanwhile I can only think of one good show, at best, per cable network.

I'd be surprised if we got more than 2 a year and I think it's safe to assume we'll be getting The Defenders in 2018. I'll be shocked if it's any later than that.

Having DD, JJ, LK and IF as the main team would be just perfect. It will be easier to balance out the different relationship between the characters. I won't mind seeing the Punisher show up but not as a main character and certainly not as part of the Defenders team.

I wouldn't be, if both Luke Cage and Iron Fist are as big of hits as DD and JJ were, I could easily see Marvel having the confidence to ramp up their production teams to include three shows a year.

Just this year they announced how much content they're putting out this year and their plans for the future. They'll have 600+ hours of original content this year and that will only grow. Now original content means stand up specials, documentaries, kids shows, talk shows, movies and TV shows.

They're getting there, they're preparing for the day when networks and movie studios sell less content to them or Hulu, Amazon sign more shows or if Apple and Google get into original programming they've got a library that will retain and grow subscribers.

Just bought the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2 Box Set the other day, and have owned the Phase 1 box set for a while. It would be cool if when the Defenders is completed if they made a Marvel Netflix Universe Phase 1 box set, cause I would totally buy that too. Surfer

Nice to see Drew Goddard return as Executive Producer, and I hope this helps the two Daredevil showrunners to balance things out in terms of plot. The Punisher/Elektra storylines could've meshed together better.

And I liked the Hand designs better in Season 1. Nobu's outfit was cooler than anything that was shown in Season 2. If they do pursue an MCU adaptation of Shadowland, hopefully they up their game.

Yeah, I found Nobu's outfit to be better looking, quality wise than what the hand wore in Season 2. Hopefully it goes back to a more red standard main color outfit for Elektra's sake too.

If Goddard is actually returning to work on the show, I wonder how that got worked out. It just seems like things ended badly between him and Marvel when he left the show to work on Sinister Six.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Goddard's credit is just a contractual one. He left when Marvel didn't pay him what he wanted according to leaked Sony emails.

I really want Drew Goddard to write and direct at least one episode of these Netflix series. That man is crazy talented.

And I'd be all for it, particularly if Marvel's Netflix schedule is ramped up to include the rumored Punisher, Elektra, Moon Knight, Blade and Thunderbolts series. That would be nine series so we'd get three a year + an occasional Defenders series.

Plus Punisher, Blade, Thunderbolts and Elektra wouldn't need to be filmed in NYC so they wouldn't be loaded with cameos and wouldn't drag down the production schedule.

If you looked at the press release, they are emphasizing Drew Goddard's involvement:

Another alum from “Marvel’s Daredevil,” Oscar-nominee Drew Goddard (“The Martian,” “Lost,” “Alias”), will also join the team as an Executive Producer.
“We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ speaks for itself,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

Looks like they worked things out and he's fully back.

Goddard also contributed to season 2 of Daredevil. He's great, so it's awesome if he can contribute in any way that he can. He's also a huge Daredevil fan.

Makes sense they'd keep these two, given that Defenders will almost certainly be dealing with the Hand in some way.

Daredevil is definitely going to be the 'Iron Man' of the Defenders.

Nobody believed me but... It's happening before season 3.

Petrie & Ramirez might as well be the Russo Brothers of the Netflix world. I like it.

I hope not too much. They're getting a bit boring and one-note, especially with Nobu. It would be very easy to overplay that hand.
