FEAR ITSELF: THE HOME FRONT #2
HERC #2 (about 2 weeks late; it was supposed to double ship in April)
HEROES FOR HIRE #6

Not a small week for me, but a better week than the end of April, which has a whopping 11 books on my list (10 from Marvel). In all seriousness, I hope Marvel never enters the drug dealing business. They'd sell "product" at 20% purity one week and then 700% purity the next and then wonder why all their customers were dead.

In a way, this is a week for late shipments. HERC #2 is only 2 weeks late, but was supposed to double ship in April and thus may have to do so in May. AVENGERS ACADEMY GIANT SIZE is the publication of the long delayed 3 issue crossover between AA and YOUNG ALLIES that got complicated when both YOUNG ALLIES and SPIDER-GIRL got canned in under a year, thus it couldn't be a crossover of annuals or its own mini. Marvel's decided to sell it as a one shot with the strongest of the three comics - the only one not canceled - as the head title. If only Marvel were half as smart as their customers, they could have realized this and published it on schedule in February. At any rate, it looks good.

Double dose of DnA, of Fear Itself and Avengers Academy. Looks like a solid, if not a cheap week for me.

Thanks, Tron! It's always much appreciated, especially after having to substitute in PE today. (BLECK! Comic geeks like me should NOT be teaching PE!!!)

Moon Knight has been "getting more crazy" since 2006, at least. Bendis is simply turning him into a cartoon character. A literal Schizoid Man.

"Wheel Of Personality, Turn Turn Turn! Choose the Personality That I should Earn!"
*BING*
Booyah! I got Squirrel-Girl!

Bendis also feels the need to drag on a pointless "hero waits for a drug drop and has an intro fight with a jobber villain" beyond 6 pages. He is literally the man to blame for decompression in comics, which have led to low sales for the entire industry for years. Sales for comics are now at 2002 lows, before Bendisization of every comic book had taken hold across the industry.

Anyway...the AVENGERS ACADEMY GIANT SIZE is supposedly 80 pages along, although how much is original material is unknown. 10 pages are usually always ads, and I'd be stunned if there were no reprints, sagas, or Handbook Bio's there to pad it out; although I do enjoy Handbook Bio's. 66 pages of material will be an original story by Paul Tobin and David Baldeon in which the Avengers Academy kids and the Young Allies meet and team up to survive one of Arcade's Murderworlds. It was originally slated to be sold as a crossover between the annuals for AVENGERS ACADEMY, SPIDER-GIRL and YOUNG ALLIES; then the latter two were canceled. Then it was slated to be sold as a 3 issue mini called ARCADE: DEATH GAME and Marvel pulled the plug on that, feeling with such a title it would sell poorly. Thus, selling the 3 issue tale as one giant collection with AVENGERS ACADEMY on the cover has been deemed the best way to sell it. It was originally slated to begin selling in February, so this month should have seen the conclusion. AVENGERS ACADEMY #13 seems to operate after said story, so it was important to ship it now at the latest.

Hope I answered your question, Phaedrus45.

I also encourage anyone who didn't get last year's TASKMASTER mini series to buy it as a trade, UNTHINKABLE. It was one of the best mini series, or even stories, from Marvel in 2010 and shouldn't be missed.

I wondered what happened with the Arcade mini. Hmmm....not so upset, as instead of paying 9 bucks for three issues (that's given that they weren't going to charge $3.99 per issue, but only $2.99), I'm saving a buck on the story.

Back in Dec. 2010, Marvel announced that ARCADE: DEATH GAME would have been $2.99 an issue for three issues. Thus, under that format it would have cost $8.97. Thus, you are correct; selling it for $7.99 in one chunk is cheaper, albeit by less than a dollar.

The dilemma is that, frankly, readers don't shop logically. A larger price is seen as a larger price even if in total it ends up being cheaper than spread across 3 months. It also will be higher per issue on wholesale costs, so I don't imagine shops will order this like an issue of AA; if anything, they're order about half as many, which averages to about 12,500 copies these days. If it does better than that, more power to Academy.

ANNIHILATORS, which offers 42 pages of story for $4.99, has sold around where smaller, cheaper issues of THANOS IMPERATIVE or NOVA sold, which isn't bad.

I'm looking forward to it. It looks to be a good story. It also preps AVENGERS ACADEMY #13, which will be "Avengers Prom" and feature the Young Allies, who the Academy kids met in their Arcade adventure (which was meant to have been completed by March). Thus, read GIANT SIZE first. ;)

MARVEL COMICS
FEAR ITSELF #2 (OF 7) FEAR $3.99

Another one book week for me. Thanks Tron

The Batwoman issue never actually came out; it was officially delayed until September. Why the first issue was solicited, I don't know. And I really don't know why they've kept soliciting it.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Super Speculator GL thing is reprints, just for those who may not know.

DC COMICS
IZOMBIE #13 (MR) $2.99

IMAGE COMICS
TURF #5 (MR) $2.99(Glad this is over. Nice concept but I found myself getting bored of it. Most likely will reread series and then sell it.)

MARVEL COMICS
ASTONISHING CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 (OF 5) $3.99(Maybe. It's Andy Diggle, right? Depends on how much money is in my wallet, and what's coming out later in the week.)
MOON KNIGHT #1 $3.99(Big Maybe! Ive yet to read a Bendis comic that I've enjoyed, really. I have his Daredevil ultimate collection vol 1, and I've found it to be ok, so far. I like Moon Knight, for some reason, I've yet to discover why, yet I buy back issues when I can. So I've flip through it in the store and decide from there.)
TASKMASTER TP UNTHINKABLE $14.99(All depends on the money. I was going to buy the floppies once it was finished, but I haven't seen the whole series together. Only in parts.)

IZOMBIE #13 (MR)
SUPERBOY #7
SWEET TOOTH #21 (MR)
MOON KNIGHT #1

Pretty small week but lots of quality stuff. Very interested to see what Bendis does on Moon Knight. I did like the Charlie Huston run and stuck around for a little after that but lost interest. From what I heard from his interviews and preview images looks, and sounds, like he has some big stuff up his sleeve.

IDW PUBLISHING
DOCTOR WHO FAIRYTALE LIFE #2 (OF 4) $3.99 (Damn it, I didn't know this existed. I gotta track down the first issue.)

MARVEL COMICS
ANNIHILATORS #3 (OF 4) $4.99
ASTONISHING CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (What's this? A modern-day adventure with strong ties (and, inevitably, flashbacks) to some WWII adventure Cap had? The hell you say!)
ASTONISHING THOR #4 (OF 5) $3.99
AVENGERS ACADEMY #13 $2.99
AVENGERS ACADEMY GIANT-SIZE #1 $7.99

WOLVERINE HERCULES MYTHS MONSTERS AND MUTANTS #3 (OF 4) $2.99
