DC COMICS

ACTION COMICS #900 (NOTE PRICE) $5.99 - (Yeah, DC will charge $2.99 for their 20 page comics; but, they'll gouge you when it's anything more. I'm hoping the Superman comics start to head in a different direction soon...and, while Lex's story has been nice, it was really starting to peter out in the end.)

What's up with this super-anti DC kick as of late, Phea? I mean, I know that you prefer Marvel more, but you've been raging pretty hard on DC recently. It's not like Marvel is really doing less gouging on their anniversary issues or anything.

Oh, and I think the Lex story is over for Action Comics with 900. Superman will be back on the title and the next few issues will deal with cleaning up that Doomsday story or whatever.

Yeah, I am getting more and more anti-DC; but, it's because I don't feel DC is giving the readers much in terms of quality product. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good comic; because, I have to face the fact that while I embrace DC charging only $2.99 an issue (for the most part), what I'm getting isn't worth it. (And, adding on two pages of letters that brag about how good their product is just peeves me off some more, especially when I just read all the kiss-butts who wrote to Superman this week. What do I like in a letter page? Honesty, and a willingness to print those letters that might not be so glowing.)

Now, with an big anniversary issue, like Action Comics #900, I will gloss over a price-hike. (Although, it should only be $4.99. DC just loves to grab that extra buck for these books, though...and, most times, it's filled with forgettable short-stories. I have hopes this one might be different.) It's when you've been selling your two bi-weekly comics for $2.99 from issue #1, and then force those who've gone along for 24 issues, to THEN pay a whopping $4.99 (WHAT??!!?? Not even just sticking with $3.99???) that it peeves me to no-end. (And, let's face facts. These weekly/bi-weekly comics that DC has been producing since 52 are gonna cost a lot more each month than a Marvel $3.99 comic. It's even more frustrating when we all know they are storylines that are being dragged out to the point of having worthless issues...just so they can get 24 issues of material.)

What are your thoughts on Detective Comics and American Vampire? Those are the only two DC books I'm reading as not much else of what DC is pumping out interests me. I may pick up the Action Comics issue, but I don't know yet.

Anyways:

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #14 (MR) $2.99
DETECTIVE COMICS #876 $2.99
ROCKETEER ADVENTURES #1 (OF 4) $3.99 (YES! I've been waiting for this for a while. Darwyn Cooke! Rocketeer! WIN!)
ROCKETEER #1 100 PENNY PRESS $1.00(buying on principal)
TURF #5 (MR) $2.99 (Now I can finally sit down and read the whole thing. This is some good stuff.)

I usually don't lump Vertigo titles in with my DC rants. American Vampire has been a decent read. Sure, it's not the best, and new readers might have a bit of trouble getting into the book, as many people throughout are characters we've been introduced to early on; but, I've been enjoying it. Other Vertigo titles, like New York Five, Unwritten, and Sweet Tooth, have been great.

I've been enjoying some Bat-titles more than others; but, I have to admit, I'm a bit behind on many of my bat-books. I think I have about 5 issues of Detective Comics to catch up on. I've just not gone ga-ga over the Batman, Inc. gimmick. For me, Batman has always been a bit reluctant in letting others take up the superhero/vigilante mantle; and, seeing him just going around and hiring new people seems against his character. Also, I have a feeling that in a couple years, this theme will be dropped and we won't see any of these Inc. members around after that. (Still, Morrison's Batman, Inc. has been a fun ride.) To put it simply, though, DC has TOO MANY Bat-titles. I'm batted out! (Probably one reason I'm so behind on Detective.)

God, I need to get back into comics, it's been a few months since I've visited my shop.:csad:

BATMAN INCORPORATED #5 $2.99 - need to pick up the last 4 issues, too
NEW YORK FIVE #4 (OF 4) (MR) $2.99 - need to to pick up the last two

BATMAN INCORPORATED #5 $2.99
GREEN LANTERN EMERALD WARRIORS #9 (WAR OF GL) $2.99
AGE OF X UNIVERSE #2 (OF 2) $3.99
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #659 BIG $3.99

UNCANNY X-MEN #536 $3.99
VENOM #2 $2.99
X-23 #9 $2.99
X-MEN #10 $3.99

Wow, all this and that's not including the $21 of stuff I've dropped. I might need to make a few more cuts if I'm still getting weeks like this.

Incidentally, can anyone tell that GODZILLA: KING OF ALL MONSTERS #1 First Print was the top selling "non-big two" comic in March 2011? :oldrazz:

Onto standard schedule...

HAUNT #15
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #659
CAPTAIN AMERICA #617
FF#2
POWER MAN & IRON FIST #4
SECRET AVENGERS #12
SECRET AVENGERS #12.1
SPIDER-GIRL #6

For the record, HERC #2 is running at least two weeks late, if these past two weeks Diamond lists are accurate. It was originally supposed to double ship in April and issue two was slated for the 20th originally.

Part of me does wonder if the timing of shipping SA #12 and its .1 issue is due to luck or just nobody paying attention.

Spider-Girl also survives longer than YOUNG ALLIES, SWORD, and DOCTOR VOODOO by technicality; issue 8 is the last.

God, I need to get back into comics, it's been a few months since I've visited my shop.:csad:

Get Butcher Baker, the Righteous Maker. That is if your into mindbleeding chest-thumping superhero comics. And no Scalped or Xombi? Rectified that.

ACTION COMICS #900 (NOTE PRICE) $5.99- God damn you Cornell! I don't want to spend 6 bucks on Doomsday and a bunch of TV writers that have no place in a Superman's anniversary issue.
BATMAN INCORPORATED #5 $2.99
DETECTIVE COMICS #876 $2.99
SCALPED #48 (MR) $2.99

Well, two are minis; so, no worries there. Plus, after War Of GL, I'd just drop Emerald Warriors. On that list, I would probably get rid of X-23...but, I'd keep New Mutants, cause I think it's getting a new writer soon, if I remember correctly.

That shocked me, too. It wasn't even that good. (Heck, it might have been the quickest read of the month, too. I doubt I spent 5 minutes on the book.)

Oh, I'd dropped New Mutants and picked it back up DUE to the new writers. Abnett and Lanning were awesome on the Cosmic books and they're doing great on Heroes for Hire so I'm hoping they keep the magic up for New Mutants, and bringing X-Man and Blink into the plot is a great start for that!!!

And honestly, I'm waiting to see how WotGL plays out because if I'm not wowed by it's end I'm debating on dropping the whole line. Emerald Warriors primarilly but 3 books PLUS a new Red Lanterns book is just a LOT of Lantern books. I've enjoyed Green Lantern but EW and GLC haven't been quite as good (though the art for both have been fantastic).

I was hoping to see EW canceled to be replaced by Red Lanterns but it doesn't look like it's going that direction. We'll just wait and see.

Right now, my potential cutting options are Emerald Warriors, Venom, Amazing Spider-Man (2 issues a month), Wolverine, X-23, and Daken.... but none are going to get cut immediately. It's not that I'm buying too many titles, it's that many of the titles I DO buy are coming out more often now, and I'm still weeding out the number of minis I buy, which was out of control. Those should be getting better within the next month or two. Also, Echo has only one issue left and Secret Warriors only has 2 I think.

Come along now, Bendis Avenger comics should have taught all of us that quality has nothing to do with sales. :o

It sold over 58,800 copies in March. How high was that? #17 in the Top 20; right above AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, VENOM #1 (which had a solid debut), UNCANNY X-MEN, and heck, miles above WOLVERINE.

FYI, Walking Dead just missed selling in the Top 50 by less than 200 copies.

The Top 100 are still dominated by Marvel and DC, of course. The other 98 comics of the Top 100 were the big two, which is standard.

Well, I'll agree that the random spike for the 24 issues of that suck, and the extra $1 for AC is dumb, I think you're letting your bias towards Marvel color your view a little here. DC isn't opposed to price gouging, no, but it's not like they launch ongoings at $3.99 for no reason, or have ongoing series at $3.99 for no other reason than who is writing it or the fact that its a top seller, or have the majority of their minis at $3.99 for no reason outside being minis. I mean, this is ****** on DC's part, but let's not say Marvel's **** doesn't stink here; I'd say they're both equally viable to put in the scopes. :p
