The Diamond List for April 27th, 2011

Well, I'll agree that the random spike for the 24 issues of that suck, and the extra $1 for AC is dumb, I think you're letting your bias towards Marvel color your view a little here. DC isn't opposed to price gouging, no, but it's not like they launch ongoings at $3.99 for no reason, or have ongoing series at $3.99 for no other reason than who is writing it or the fact that its a top seller, or have the majority of their minis at $3.99 for no reason outside being minis. I mean, this is ****** on DC's part, but let's not say Marvel's **** doesn't stink here; I'd say they're both equally viable to put in the scopes. :p

I'm a Marvel guy but I'll flat out say without hesitation that Marvel price gouges WAY more than DC. A least DC is trying to control their prices save for special issues. Marvel overprices non-special issues, series, etc.

For me, it's not a Marvel bias that makes me less irrate at them. As I said before, this past year (except for the Vertigo brand) I have found that the product DC is putting out to be a lot less than exceptional. I complained before about War Of The Supermen....but, even that was so much better than the Grounded storyline. Wonder Woman has been so unreadable, that I think I'm currently three issues behind in my "Must Read" box. War Of The Green Lantern is only alright...but, pales greatly in comparison to the Sinestro Corps War. (Plus, Green Latern Corps doesn't even resemble the comic it used to be.)

DC still does have some shining lights...but, they are the titles that are not suppose to draw the attention of the others. Morrison's Batman, Inc. has been a fun ride, Thunder Agents is brilliant, Action Comics with Lex STARTED OUT as very good (but, the backup feature by Spencer featuring Jimmy Olsen wowwed me), and as JH said, Batgirl is a fun comic to read.

I really want DC to do for me what I get from Marvel or the Independants; but, it feels like they are drifting a bit now. Things that start off good begin to fizzle as they come to a conclusion. (I.e. Justice League International, Brightest Day, Action Comic with Lex)

Well, I don't know, I've actually been reading more DC than Marvel lately, though neither company really entices me in masse much anymore. Marvel's price hiking is what's driven me away in a lot of ways from buying their minis and one-shots and some of their ongoings (Mainly reason I dropped out of Thor, why I'm seriously thinking of bowing out of the Cap relaunch, probably won't try Bendis' take on Moon Knight). With both companies, I've become pretty disinterested in the big picture stuff in general, as well.

Get Butcher Baker, the Righteous Maker. That is if your into mindbleeding chest-thumping superhero comics. And no Scalped or Xombi? Rectified that.

There are a lot of books that I want to check out, but school has been overwhelming and movies have been my main niche over the last few months than anything.

And Scalped is great. I just prefer a lot of Vertigo books in trade form.

Having little money sucks, too, obviously. I've become a torrent scro.:csad:

Today was freakin' CRAAAZZZYYY!!! My bill came to over $200.00, and I walked out with 71 new comics, 13 of which were variants. (Didn't help that 2 of those were the $5.99 Action Comics.) I even had to save a couple of trades until next week.

13 variants? I believe you, sir, are the crazy one in that situation. ;)
