The Disney owns Fox thread

A mixed bag but things like McClane getting canned are definitely an upside.

If that one got trashed too that's a good thing.

A lot of FoX films just came and went this year and last year, and all of them came from Fox's previous regime. FoX's 2020 film slate is also not that interesting and a lot of those films were greenlit by the fox's previous regime.

I think its good for Disney to evaluate Fox's upcoming films and aX what should be aX. Iger also said that they are gonna lower the amount of Fox films that they are gonna release annually, to focus more on those films. I like that Disney releases like ten films annually for the last 3 years, and more than half of them are box office success.

I think there are plenty of pros and cons to this. But yeah it's not like the Fox regime was like the 2017 World Series Astros.

They will obviously focus on Fox's current franchises like Avatar/Kingsman/Planet of the Apes (though not sure if a Kingsman prequel is whats needed for that franchise atm, though i guess that was greenlit by the previous regime as well) while the previous foX franchises feat. Marvel characters would prosper under Marvel Studios. Home Alone/Wimpy Kids/Night at the Museum are said to get new stories in D+, they aren't getting the big screen treatment but its not a loss to me. While the indie/smaller films would be under Searchlight. It sounds great to me.

The only current brands/franchises that I'm not sure of is Blue Sky since Disney already have 2 major animation studios, while I've had enough of Alien/Predator. I don't know why Disney would do another film for those two since the last film for those two tanked.

the 2019/2020 slate, not interested in that Ford/Ferrari bio pic, Ad Astra and the Ryan/Channing comedy pair up for next summer. I'm only watching Spies in Disguise because I have seen every Blue Sky film. The rest, I need to see a trailer. foX's upcoming film slate is as dry as Paramount and Disney's acquisition couldn't come in a better time. Hoping 2021 will be the year that Fox films are gonna be exciting again, now that Disney already got full control of the company. Also more of that Poirot crime film and less remakes/reboots of previous films as Disney is already doing that with their other film arm.

Also a lot of these don't sound like huge losses. Not to mention, Flash Gordon has had like 20 different different directors and has languished in development purgatory for years.

The Affleck and Fukunaga projects sound like they would've been interesting. Also I didn't care for that silly commentary from the writer in there. It was cringeworthy.

Also, Waititi's Flash Gordon was supposed to be animated anyway. I doubt Fox would've ever greenlit such a film.
Disney will continue with existing franchises (maybe not with Aliens and Predator anytime soon though) and release low budget Original movies under Fox Searchlight banner on streaming services they own like Hulu.

I suppose big budget (or medium budget) stand alone, original movies will be affected by this Disney buyout of Fox the most.

I just read the whole list linked in that yahoo article..... It included Venom 2 and Avatar 4.... Avatar 4 recently got a release date, and Venom 2 is under Sony. I'm sure Disney axed a lot of films, but that list doesn't seem believable.

It would be great if Disney could axe Sony's films about Spider-Man's supporting characters!

They haven't axed Ridley Scott's planned third movie. Yet.

Glad that we are still getting Ad Astra and Ford Vs. Ferrari, I want to see both of those.

https://www.androidauthority.com/disney-plus-hulu-espn-plus-bundle-1016751/

Disney has confirmed that the price for signing up to the Disney Plus-Hulu-ESPN Plus bundle will be $12.99 a month. Hulu is currently $5.99 a month (with ads), ESPN Plus costs $4.99 a month, and Disney is $6.99 — so you’re getting a total savings of $5. The bundle also costs the same as Netflix’s most popular Standard monthly subscription price.

Disney has not yet announced if it will offer a yearly price for the Disney Plus-Hulu-ESPN Plus bundle. There’s no such plan for Hulu at the moment, but ESPN Plus is available for an annual fee of $49.99, and Disney Plus will have a $69.99 yearly subscription option. There’s also no word if the bundle deal will have an option to include the “no ads” price tier for Hulu, which normally costs $11.99 a month on its own.

Doesn't sound like a much radically different status quo than pre-Disney.

Well at least the team still have jobs. They do good work when they want.

I'm glad they are keeping the doors open and lights on, but what really great films has Blue Sky done in the past 10 years outside of Peanuts?

This bundle won't make its way outside of North America. ESPN streaming coverage is locked into our local pay TV provider and will be for the foreseeable future, and all the Hulu content is licensed out to various local streaming services.

Epic was pretty good from a story and art design standpoint.

Disney is going to try to make a return on their investment as quickly as possible meaning medium and big projects that Fox saw the most profitability from will have priority over others. Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Kingsman, Deadpool, and X-Men are the most likely to see sequels/reboots over the next couple of years. Content like The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. will likely only be on Hulu but Disney will probably expand their theme park footprint by adding these characters to a new park within the next decade.

I'm glad they're keeping Fox Searchlight--for now. I just hope it doesn't go the way of Miramax and Disney continues to produce independent films from smaller filmmakers.

Searchlight is gonna be the place for Disney's smaller / indie films, probably chick flicks as well, while Fox proper is going to focus on blockbuster / higher budgeted films. I wouldn't be surprised if we get like 2to 5 films from Searchlight and 5 to 8 films from Fox proper annually starting in 2022. i also hope they search for new ips/franchises for the new Fox to handle, because Avatar/Apes/Kingsman and whatever franchise they are going to reboot imo wouldn't be enough in the next ten years.

I'm also still a bit surprised that Disney has three major animation studios now. I would like to see blue Sky sky-rocket to the quality of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. But can Disney do that when the other two studios are releasing 2 films annually?

Blue Sky gets a shockingly large a-list number of stars for their flicks.

Blue Sky is another content creator already in place to fill the pipeline of their streaming platforms.

Searchlight is important theatrically and streaming for diverse/prestige content to go with FX's increased scale. They will be major players for growing Hulu's domestic and (soon) international subscriber base.

Ford v Ferrari and Ad Astra will probably be better than every film Disney released this year
Maybe, but I'm not interested in seeing those. Ad Astra feels like idk, a poor man's Interstellar. The other one, I'm not into automobiles and biopics of businessmen.

Are we gonna be spared another Prometheus movie ? I know FOX green lit one before the merge became a thing. At the very least Disney will let Ridley Scott take the IP else where & scott takes out the Alien aspect & the rest say no

I think all r-rated fox properties (Aliens, Predator, Die Hard) are in limbo. Not a bad thing since creatively they’ve been in a rut anyways.

James Gray's last three movies were all excellent. At worst Ad Astra will be good; which would already put it over ever Disney release of 2019 outside of Toy Story and Avengers, but it's more likely that it'll be great.
