The Disney owns Fox thread

As long as they can watch their clips on YouTube and use them in various memes most people don't care.

The only repetory Fox title Disney isn’t cracking down on is The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I hope this story catches on and Disney is pressured to continue licensing Fox catalogue titles for paying exhibitors.
Yep. This needs to be a bigger story to shame Disney into changing direction. And to remember all the people insisting that they could be trusted not to "misbehave" with the Fox properties... It's sad to think there's still the "Why would anyone watch a movie in a theater with *ugh* PEOPLE when you can just sit at home" crowd that will see no problem with this.

There isn't really a problem. Fox's movies are either accessible through Hulu and Disney+. Not a big deal.

Well there you go.

Its not really a problem. Most new movies hit digital 3 months after its theatrical release anyway. Why expect old movies to even hit theaters these days. Well I guess it sucks for those people who goes to theaters that screen old movies. Personally speaking, there's no theaters that do that from where I live and when a theater screens an old movie, the theater is almost empty.

I just feel like some people are just finding another reason to complain about Disney purchasing Fox, like its been months since the deal was finalized, there's no undoing it.

No one is trying to undo the deal. But those of us who still value the theatrical experience and the integrity of classic films wish to see Disney not manipulate access to classic Fox catalogue. I don't know what your local market is like, but retro screenings have always been popular in my hometown, and I'm in the middle of rural Indiana.

Disney is not doing it for no reason, though. It just seems like they are always being painted as the bad guy ever since it was announced that they were going to purchase Fox

Let's understand something fundamental about what's being discussed here. Because you're not personally affected by Disney's decision to put some Fox classics in their vault because your local movie theaters that play classics don't interest you and the few times you've gone to the theaters have been empty doesn't speak objectively to what's happening nationally. Some local independent theaters play old movies and make a profit to sustain their business because of it. There are a ton of classics Fox owned that for Disney, aren't as profitable because they can't make money off of merchandise. This is a problem for what's to come in the coming years. Disney is going to continue to cut independent films that can't be turned into a franchise or squash the idea of more adult content because it can't be played to a wider audience. Keep in mind most people aren't senselessly mad at Disney because they bought Fox, they're upset that they are intentionally taking properties and canceling projects because they can't figure out a way to incorporate it into their larger business model.

Well, its a good thing that Fox and Disney aren't the only studios in the world right? And the tweet already mentioned that other studios are willing to screen their old films to those theaters. Unless you think people only watch classic films in theaters, classic films that were distributed by Fox, then I guess those independent theaters are doomed, which I doubt is going to be the case.

Once again, Disney is being painted as the bad guy here, as some were also claiming they are monopolizing the industry which is far from reality. Also Fox wasn't the only studio distributing "independent" films as far I know. Fox wasn't also the only go to studio for filmmakers. If those filmmakers can't get a job under Disney, there are other studios to go to their pitch their project.

Hollywood and the entertainment industry are big. Universal, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Lionsgate, Sony, Stx, United Artists, Amazon, Netflix... the entertainment industry and theater chains aren't ending because Disney bought Fox and Disney doesn't have control over everything because if they do, Joker and It Chapter 2, wouldn't have grossed over 200 million in the United States especially with a R Rating. There are other studios out there (not just a handful) and films get canceled all the time, not just when Disney decided to terminate fox films that were in development (which was expected anyway in a merger).

When those independent theaters close because they can't screen classic Fox films, then quote me on that and tell me I'm wrong.

One other upside to the Disney-buying-Fox event is that Disney has restored the Fox opening and logos on the OT and PT Star Wars films, according to people who are streaming Disney+.

Disney Hit With Anti-Trust Complaint in South Korea Over 'Frozen 2' "Monopoly"

The organization alleged that Frozen 2 occupied more than 88 percent of Korean screens on its opening day of Nov. 23, which violates the country’s anti-monopoly law. The PWC contends that Disney's wide release of the film falls under a clause that defines any individual or company with over 50 percent of market share as a "market-dominant enterprise." Disney has "attempted to monopolize the screens and seek great profit in the short term, restricting the consumer's right to choose," PWC's complaint said.

Well Bernie did say he would break up Disney and other monopolies such as Facebook and Google.

The mouse has officially killed the fox.

In a move at once unsurprising and highly symbolic, the Walt Disney Company is dropping the “Fox” brand from the 21st Century Fox assets it acquired last March, Variety has learned. The 20th Century Fox film studio will become 20th Century Studios, and Fox Searchlight Pictures will become simply Searchlight Pictures.
Disney Drops Fox Name, Will Rebrand as 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures

Goodbye Fox. A lot of us saw this coming but it doesn’t make it any less sad.

Ouch. Though I guess they wanna get away from brands like Fox News and what not.

It's resetting it back to what it was nearly 90 years ago with Twentieth Century Pictures. They should've called it "Pictures" instead of "Studios", because it's rare that something that had faded into obscurity and history so long ago would come back again.

Twentieth Century Pictures didn't last very long though. Only from 1933 to 1935 before merging with Fox.

I was both surprised at the move but not really. I hope Disney doesn’t go back and add the revised logos to the pre-buyout titles, as they like to do with their animated classics.

I read that the 20th Century logo is meant to be of klieg lights. I always thought they were search lights (hence the name Searchlight) such as the kind you'd find during WW1 when searching for enemies or prisoners. I didn't realise they were meant to be film lights or carbon arc lamps.
