So I've been thinking about getting back into emulation. I know that it's a taboo subject, but I still have fond memories playing ROM hacks of Pokémon games back in high school. I also remember when someone used a Super Nintendo emulator on one of our school computers and everyone was wondering how he was playing Super Mario World. :funny:

Me too I need to get back into emulators. Saw some screenshots showing off HD textures for Twilight Princess that made me salivate a bit. :hmr:

I'm actually shocked that Cemu can upscale Wii U games at 4K. It's that mere ability that piqued my interest again. I heard PCSX is still a nightmare to use though and barely works.

Damn, thanks for that geetard. :atp: I know emulation is in the moral grey area of gaming, but damn am I not even more tempted.

Loved those days where you could just play Super Nintendo games during Free Period.

I think it really stopped being an issue for Retro system Roms due to the fact that they are discontinued and the companies, no longer profit from the sales of those games. So downloading them now, is just like whatever to them.

I think its a bigger issue when emulating current day games.

HOWEVER, when stuff like the recent PS4 system update, now allowing users to transfer Apps to portable harddrives, it could lead to a way of just going to someone else's system and transferring it to their system drives and making them playable, SONY are just setting themselves up for their own failure.

All you would probably have to do is set up your PSN on the person's system and boom, you just transferred games to someone else.

There's a small issue, you have to set your friend's device as your home console if they want to use it on their profile so at most you can only share with one other device.

I'm not going to say emulation is morally right(mainly the downloading games without paying for them aspect), but some games would be lost forever if not for emulation. There are probably millions of retro games and so a lot are going to fall through the cracks and never be included on virtual console-type services or appear in classic game compilations such as the NES Classic. Either the games were never popular or complex licensing issues prevents them from being made available. A lot of times, it's a combination of the two, because game companies assume nobody ever cared about some game based on a TV show or movie from 30 years ago. And then there's instances like with Nintendo and Rare, where Nintendo can't release classic Rare games on VC or any of their mini consoles because they would have to get permission from Microsoft, and Goldeneye can't be released at all because it's caught in a custody battle between Nintendo and Microsoft.

I just installed the Dolphin Gamecube Emulator to play the wwe games, but i cant figure out how to make the savegames work.

Im not using them as much as back in the day but i still here and there play with the snes or n64 emulator.
I often think about unboxing my consoles again to play a round of this stuff, but i end up instead using the emulators because its just faster and easier than getting all the cables and stuff.

I would probably use a PS2 emulator if i would have a PC that can handle it.

I don't know what witchcraft Sony uses to make it so hard to emulate PS games, but damn I know it's hard.

Does Dolphin not have Save States?

I think thats one reason why they arent fans of Backwards Compatiblity i think.

It does have Save States but somehow i couldnt get it to work for the moment.
Loading from data tells me the save game belongs to a different version of the game, putting the savegame into the GC Savegame folder didnt work and when i save in the game it saves it somewhere else with a .s1 or so.
So it will take me a bit to figure out how to do that, doesnt seem to be as easy as with others.

I do, or did to be precise.
I used the PS1 and PS2 emulators to play Wipeout 2 and 3. It's not easy to set up but the possibility to improve the graphics and play in widescreen worth it, especially Wipeout 2097 (one of the best PS1 games ever made).
A couple years ago, I even dusted my PS1 and an old CRT TV monitor to play Wipeout 2097. Nostalgia wore off fast so I tried the PS emulator, bought a PS1 pad usb adapter but the magic was gone and so was my reflex to play such a fast game :)

I'm one of those freaks that never use graphics enhancements in retro games. I prefer the vanilla look, pixels and everything. Just the way it was meant to be. Accuracy above everything else.

It's pretty insane how emulation evolved in the past 5 years or so. PS3 emulation is insane (so many games are playable with little issues). N64 became both accurate and playable. and even Xbox + 360 are making steady progress. You can basically enjoy many of the games that were left in the obscurity because they were never ported anywhere.

The biggest negative surprise is PS2 emulation. Very little progress in the past 10 years. The library is playable, but there are so many glitches and bugs in nearly every game.

    :hehe:

A late response but in case you're still having troubles, I suggest to ask for support over the Dolphin community if you know your way around Reddit.

That sucks to hear. Looking on the PCSX2 website, over 2600 games are considered "playable" and only 20 are "perfectly playable".

In defense of PCSX2, "perfect" is hard to achieve on anything above 16-bit consoles. But more developed emus have it more subtle.

I'm playing a hack of Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, redubbed Alter. It kinda reminds me of the arranged mode in RE1 Director's Cut, also with Harmony of Dissonance in some areas/locations. This has been as cryptic as Metroidvania games are normally, with some really unexpected twists.
