"We think that Game Boy Advance certainly has at least one more holiday season left in it. For us, it continues to be a great stepping stone for five-, six-, seven-year-old consumers to have their first great handheld gaming experience and then transition right into DS," Fils-Aime told the Reuters Media Summit in New York.

So the end for GBA is finally coming. No word on what will be coming after that though... Probably nothing for quite a while yet. Leave the market open to the DS.

I wonder how long it will be before Nintendo release a new GAMEBOY?

I havent bought a game for my GBA since Street Fighter Alpha 3 came out.

I still think that Nintendo should have named the Nintendo DS the Game Boy DS.

Could use that for the successor of the DS Lite.

I think them retiring the "game boy" name is good. It's like when Ford released "Escort".

Also, Ford ****e. Heh.

The DS can play Game Boy games right? I'm actually suprised it's lasted this long, considering the life cycles of consoles.

As do I, but now I'm wondering whether Nintendo will re-ignite its three tier strategy. We could see a debut for a new Game Boy at either the new E3 :-)o:cmad:) or a different convention.

Actually now I see it as a marketing move. If your games appeal to females would they want the handheld called Game Boy? And for adults do they want to play a Game Boy or just a DS? They're trying to reach new people, introduce a new way to play games and if they think oh its just another Game Boy they might not embrace it.

No matter what, the GameBoy will always be around.

You beat me to it.

I still have the original Game Boy.

The Gameboy will return. It is like the Joker, too cool to be killed off.

Game Boy is a well known brand. It's gotten past the point where grown men and women who want one will not get one simply because it has BOY in it.

I got a GBA, got Driver 2 for it, never got another game again.

Sorry.

There were some great GBA games you missed out on.

Wow, bad choice...

But as said above me there are some great games.

its kind of pointless to come out with a gameboy, what the **** are they going to put in it? is it going to be more innovative then the DS or what? and if so, why can't they just wait till the ds has run its course and ocme out with a new ds? i don't like the fact that thier planing to have 2 handhelds in the market.

i say it's got a good enough fan base to retire it momentarily than re-use it to launch something in about 10-15 years time
