The Eurovision thread

The only reason people watch eurovision is because of the terrible songs and silly outfits.

Wonderful songs and spectacular outfits!

I don't mind the odd ballad but I must admit I tend to prefer the big dance songs. They're just more fun.

I was thinking of heading down to the big square nearby and watching the final with everyone else. Might even try and sneak in a European drink just to get in the mood

How many competitors now? You'd be dead if you had the national drink for each, right?

Eh yeah I better just stick to one otherwise I'll make a fully qualified ass of myself.

Oh my gosh the semi finals were so good! It's a shame Moldavia went, they were a good novelty act. Glad to see the Finnish group didn't go through and yay for Serbia!

Oh my gosh how much fun was it this year! Loved it! I'm so glad
sweden/spoiler] won. He was amazing and so hot. He seemed so happy when he won too and if Russia had won people like me would have been killed.

And my country did alright! 5th place! The Europeans are so nice even though he is a bit boring. Thank you so much for inviting us!

I wonder what next year will be like?

It was good entertainment this year. You could hear the crowd getting behind Sweden as the "anyone but Russia" entrant: score allocations where Russia had been given anything less than eight were met with a huge roar.

From a straight male perspective, Spain was the clear winner. Closely followed by Nigella Lawson.

I thought Hungary's folksy-hippy ballad was actually the best song.

It's one of the most amazing events of the year. For just a few short days the jewels of Europe combine to form one amazing singing contest filled with the best of glamour and camp glory.

You can expect to see everything and also expect to see the unexpected. The only rule is to be the most wonderful version of you that you can be.

I just saw conchita tonight and she was just amazing. 12 points for Austria! Shame Lithuania didn't get in though, I liked those guys

Sounds really lame.

Romania was also great. That was genuinely touching. Yeah I was definitely one of he "anyone but Russia" people.

I always feel so sad when it's over though. At least we'll get to see plenty of mans

So the UK gets to vote for who they want to send to Eurovision this year very soon! How very exciting! I can't wait to find out who they send.

Also, I'm having a Eurovision party and I can't decide what outfit to wear. I just found out it's only the women who wear cool outfits at Eurovision (besides jedward I suppose). Any ideas? I was thinking of just wearing lederhosen because it's instantly recognisable but I kind of wanted to go as something glam punkish like Ziggy stardust as well

Oh wow good for them! They might find it weird at first but hopefully it builds a cult following.

I'm actually really excited for Australia's entry this year

So what did everyone think this year? I thought it was absolutely marvellous! One of the best ever IMO. I'm so proud of Dami Im.

It's a shame about the UK though

I found most of the songs very uninspiring. They seem to be becoming more samey, without the same cheesey/bizarre/so-bad-it's-good entrants that used to make it so watchable.

I agree with regwec.

This year, I thought my country's song (Netherlands) was one of the best. But alas.

I didn't find them samey but I'm sad that a lot of the more eccentric songs, like San Marino, didn't make it to the grand final.

Your song from the Netherlands was good Greens! It's such a competitive contest though. Everyone does so well. Really there were so many winners.

I did think the Russian song was a bit overrated though IMO. I just didn't get the appeal

You guy's are getting Eurovision. :funny:

Eurovision 2017 To Air in the US On Logo http://deadline.com/2017/04/eurovision-song-contest-2017-us-logo-1202078444?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

The Eurovision Song Contest, the longest-running annual international TV song competition, will be broadcast in the U.S. for a second consecutive year. Viacom’s Logo, which carried the Grand Finale live last year, will do it again for the upcoming 62nd edition of the contest, known for catchy pop tunes, extravagant costumes and over-the-top production values. The three-and-a-half-hour 2017 Grand Final will air live and commercial free on Saturday, May 13 at 12 PM PT.

Oh my gosh. It'll be interesting to see I feel it takes off there. I could see it in a double feature with rupauls drag race.

Can't wait to watch it this year. It's my boyfriends first time so hopefully it puts on a good show for him

Did not realise eurovision had such a far reaching fan base as it had in southern hemisphere.

So cool!

I haven't really checked out this year's contestants but our song (Netherlands) sucks donkey ****, so there you go.

Honestly, i have no interest in the Eurovision, i don't care for it for a couple of years now.
I believe no one in Portugal really cares for quite some time.

It gets a lot of media attention here so there's no way not to get swept up in it.

I do maintain that Eurovision should have stopped after ABBA.

I don't mind it. It's really a festival of camp costumes, cheesy tunes, hot girls and weird Germans. Something for everyone.

I don't mind it but no one ever votes based on talent imo. just what country they are friends with

I wish it had MORE of those aspects.

Just checked out the tunes for the first semi-final and most of them are so ****ing dull it's unbelievable. Not a fan of the dramatic, minimalist approach.

Props to Montenegro and Moldova for at least embracing the cheese.
