I wouldn't know, since where I live they never actually show this film in TV spots. I still haven't seen one since the FIFA World Cup finals. Yet, we get stuff like MI5 and Man from UNCLE all the time.

When I saw Ant-Man they didn't even show the new trailer, they showed the one from back in the spring.

That's interesting, about since a week ago I have seen 6 or 7 FF commercials a day (they vary from new, old and new footage, short and long ads) and I don't watch any kids channels. I haven't seen one single MI5 or Man from UNCLE trailer. Depends on the territory I guess

I have not seen one TV spot since the Women's soccer finals here in Houston. It' crazy.

I've been seeing FF spots here in Ohio and I've seen spots for U.N.C.L.E and MI5 as well.

same, what part of ohio?

Ive seen a decent amount for all of those at this point. But the latter 2 look way more effective marketing wise than this film does

I've still only seen one, but I don't watch a lot of TV and I don't watch kid channels.

I saw a TV spot earlier on UK Tv, my Dad said it looked stupid lol

He's not a fan of Black Johnny Storm, he's half black by the way so getting in before "racist" remarks

JUST saw another Man From UNCLE spot on TBS.

Been seeing a couple of those every now and then.

ive ironically seen several commercials on the disney channel (hey girl meets world rocks, don't judge me) which really surprised me, you think disney wouldn't be allowing these at all to play on their network

They are getting a good few million from it. May as well get something from Fox for this crap.

:funny:

Hey, if this is a phenomenal success, Disney will collect a big paycheck for doing nothing. We know and Disney knows (and Fox should know) that Disney could do a much better job with these characters, but they're not going to turn down cash money for advertising for a property they profit from.

but that goes against the merchandising ban logic of the comic characters...

Difference is Fox gets around 40% Plus of merch profits. Adverts which might not make a lot of difference for the box office all come out of Fox's pocket and into Disneys.

I think the idea of a 'ban' is something of a manufactured concept by people like us.

Companies that license characters can only print so many T-shirts with so many characters and they and Disney have to choose who to print and who not to. Why not put characters you completely control on the list of what you'll license?

And once the licenses have been agreed on and FF characters aren't on those licensed lists, there becomes a real ban because printing anything with those characters would violate licensing agreements.

You're in a safe thread zone. No one's throwing around racist accusations in here! :woot:

Yeah I'm not seeing the whole "Thing getting better with every new tv spot" thing.

He looks exactly the same and he looks bad.

People see what they want to see, and ignore the rest.

The ThingINO is looking better then those first couple of clips a few months ago, but it's still a far cry from the Thing from the comics.

I think Trank's version looks better than the Story version -- but only in the sense that he's larger and more rock like. Color is good enough.

Still naked, 'normal' hands, browless, constant squinty eyed grimace, softer voice than you would expect when the comics have always referenced gravely sounding.

not of comic merch they don't, only when it's movie tie-ins

eh... the comic brand to my knowledge is not separate licensing. Hasbro for instance has the whole marvel library (aside from a few special cases) to make toys out of... it's always been that way... but it's been years since the last Fantastic Four toy was made.. and all of the X-men lines of figures have been exclusives.

even some of the X-men made it into the SuperHero Mashers of toys.. but none of the Fantastic four have or did.

there's certainly something going on, and you'd have to be blind not to see it.. you also don't change artwork on t-shirts and remove the Mutants and F4 from all promotional material if there wasn't... (see marvels new Marvel Universe poster) the x-men and F4 are very noticeably absent, and that is from the company it's self.

Hasbro gives very vague answers like "well we can do those characters, but we are really just concentrating on the other marvel properties right now... :o

and to make matters more awkward... the captain america Civil War legends line, is coming with an Onslaught Red Skull figure who the avengers fought when the team was made up of half X-men... but they "arn't allowed" to include a Magneto Helmeted head for onslaught because "we arn't allowed to cross brands" last i checked... 90% of the body is an iconic X-men villain... i don't see why the body is allowed but an alternate head that resembles magneto's helmet is not (especially when it's a tiny pack-in) and Onslaught Red Skull is the epitome of a "cross branded character" in it's conception. it's all BS

The ban on the licensing of FOX controlled Marvel characters is definitely real, but it doesn't extend to Disney proper. The various network heads would pitch a fit if Ike Perlmutter was determining which studio's ad money was good.
