The 'First Time Watch' Review Thread

Where the Crawdads Sing

My partner & I watched this on Saturday night, it was on Film 4, here in the UK.

We knew nothing of the novel's story or background to the film, just that I'd heard it was a good watch and had done well at the Oscars.

We sat down and were completely blown away & stunned at this film, it's narrative choices and themes hit us both very much through personal understanding prior to our life coming together, & the visual story-telling & cinematography lent themselves wonderfully to heavily contributing to the structure, feel and the eventual outcome of the story.

Very difficult subject material told with a grace & understanding rarely found these days, the running time and pacing allowed the story to flow and weave, the nature of the edit (non sequential) gave the characters time to be their own selves and the ending simply knocks the breath out of you.

Highly recommend this film to all and it's a hard watch given the material & themes but it's a hell of a rewarding one by the end credits.

10/10
