Coming 7/24...likely because of Watchemn.

I'll stick to my original 300, it's a fun, visual film, but I don't need the special treatment

agreed. I'm happy with the Blu-Ray I have of 300.

Well it does come with the PIP feature that the HD DVD had which is a big deal for people.
But in other news...

Blu-ray player sales rose 72% in Q1 '09
According to the March update of The NPD Group's retail tracking report, sales of standalone BD players (not including PS3 consoles) in the USA during the first quarter of 2009 increased 72 percent over the same period in 2008. Additionally, consumer surveys showed increased awareness and intention to buy.

During the quarter, over 400,000 standalone players were sold in the USA, for dollar sales of $107.2 million. The average selling price of a standalone BD player fell nearly 34 percent from $393 dollars in Q1 2008 to $261 in Q1 2009, the report shows.

The March update to the Blu-ray Report also showed that overall U.S. consumer awareness of the BD format hit the 90 percent mark in the past six months. Purchase intent for Blu-ray set-top boxes also rose slightly in recent tracking surveys, with 6 percent of respondents saying they would be "extremely or very likely" to buy in the next six months, compared with 5 percent who responded similarly in the August 2008 report.

Ross Rubin, industry analysis director at NPD, noted that rising penetration of HDTVs and lower BD player prices "are broadening the format's market opportunity." He added that, despite the expansion of options for accessing movies digitally, "Blu-ray is carrying forward the widespread appeal of DVD into the high-definition marketplace."

Still, Rubin stressed the need for more promotion of the format. Currently, leading driver of Blu-ray purchase intent is "recommendations from friends, family or co-workers," whose demonstrations of the technology "are selling the benefits in a way that is far more effective than simply viewing an advertisement or seeing it demonstrated at a retail store."

NPD also observed that "recent BD player buyers report being influenced most often by pricing, promotions, and sales." For example, consumers who claimed that they are likely to buy in the next six months expect to pay $214 on average, NPD said.

So this version of "300" on Blu-ray is "The Ultimate Experience" because, why, it has all the stuff the HD DVD version had on it 2 years ago? ;)

Well it comes in the digibook packaging which contains a lot of information and tidbits so technically it already has more going for it. :) And I don't think the actual disc details have been revealed there might be more stuff we just don't know about yet but I would say im pretty sure it will just be the HD DVD version...at the very least.

I just really really don't like the digibooks.

I don't mind them at all I think they are pretty neat.. I do think it would be wise of them to do release them in normal cases as well because I do know there is a fair amount of people that dislike the packaging.

The full article reveals more...

Fox Reveals Big Trouble in Little China Blu-ray and More!
In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed a number of upcoming Blu-ray titles due to hit store shelves later this year. On June 30th, they are planning to release 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li - Unleashed and Unrated' and '12 Rounds: Extreme Cut' onto Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD release. 'Street Fighter' will come as a three-disc set packaged with a digital and DVD copy of the film.

As previously reported, Fox will release 'Prison Break: The Final Break' for Blu-ray on July 21st, day-and-date with the DVD release. This is the direct-to-video post-finale ending to the show that wraps up all the loose ends and solves all mysteries.

On August 4th, they will bring the cult classic 'Big Trouble in Little China and the Joe Pesci comedy 'My Cousin Vinny to Blu-ray. And as reported yesterday, two weeks later, on August 18th, Fox will bring 'Sons of Anarchy: Season One to Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD release.

Technical specs for all releases include 1080p AVC video accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. No special features have been announced at this time for the newly revealed titles.

Also HBO is releasing some more...

Rome and Sopranos Coming to Blu-ray this Winter
We have learned through inside sources that HBO is planning to release 'Rome' on Blu-ray this winter as part of a gift set that will include both seasons of the critically acclaimed series. Additionally, we have learned that they are also preparing to release 'The Sopranos: Season One' on Blu-ray for a winter release.

This would be the first time that 'Rome' saw Blu-ray release, but HBO has already released 'The Sopranos: Season Six, Part I' and 'The Sopranos: Season Six, Part II' on Blu-ray previously, so this is hopefully the start of effort to release all the seasons of the popular show on Blu-ray.

No technical specs or special features have been announced at this time. HBO was unable to confirm or deny this information at time of press. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

And yeah, this magical 75GB Blu-ray is not going to happen for Blu-ray. The standard is 25 and 50GB and will stay that way for the foreseeable future. And no matter what the extended cuts will most likely span two discs considering the studios think consumers see that as having more value. :hehe:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End was a 75GB disc, a fact which was fairly well publicized at the time of it's release. Has everyone already forgotten this? :huh:

There's nothing stopping Warner Bros. from putting both versions of the film on one disc and using seamless branching. They just want more money. :o

Yeah Tim I don't remember hearing anything about a 75GB Blu-ray being released on the market until you said it. I know they are working on larger capacity Blu-ray's for the future but 50GB is the max being used at this point. Maybe you saw 50GB and 25GB and somehow interpreted that into a 75GB disc but its a 2 Disc set.

There's nothing stopping Warner Bros. from putting both versions of the film on one disc and using seamless branching. They just want more money. :o

Well here...think of it this way. Regardless they were going to wait to release around the time of The Hobbit for marketing purposes. So would you rather wait until then or have the option of the Theatrical versions while you wait for when The Hobbit is coming out for any LOTR at all?

Putting both versions of the film takes up space and thereby hindering the quality of sound and picture.

By that logic though, the extended edition is doomed to have worse picture quality than the theatrical cut, unless they put it on 2 discs like with the DVD.

Have they even said that when they release the extended versions that the theatrical versions would be included? But yes I am positive that they can have the theatrical AND extended cut on one 50GB disc and it be very impressive looking and sounding. Wanna know why? Universal has already done it with King Kong. King Kong contains the 3 hour and 8 minute cut while ALSO having the 3 hour and 20 minute extended cut and it is a demo quality disc so its possible.

I'll be happy to buy the Theatrical cuts when they come out. The DVD's are barely watchable...these films contain so much detail that Blu-ray would make it look totally amazing. So, while I would rather have the extended cuts, I'll take the theatrical's ASAP.

If anyone wants some blu-ray's for cheap I have Casino Royale and Terminator 2 for $16 shipped. Yep $8 a piece.

The eighth season of Scrubs with Zach Braff and his cohorts has previously been announced for a DVD bow on August 25. The Blu-ray version won't arrive on store shelves until November 17, almost three full months later.

Tech specs are still hazy but I can report all 18 episodes will span 2 discs. Probable but unconfirmed specs are 1.78:1 1080p video and some flavor of lossless audio.

Bonus features are almost identical to the DVD version with the exception of two additional never-before-seen webisodes.

* My Bahamas Trip
* Deleted Scenes
* Bloopers
* Alternate Lines
* 10 Webisodes
* 2 Additional Webisodes (BD exclusive)

Retail pricing for Scrubs: Season Eight on Blu-ray is $54.99 for the two-disc set (that is not a typo).

Warner Teams up with Facebook for Watchmen Blu-ray
Warner Home Video is set to announce a plan to sync up friend networks on Facebook with the interactive community-screening features of Warners' Blu-ray Disc releases, starting with the upcoming 'Watchmen'. In a first for the format, buyers of the Blu-ray will be able to view the film and share comments with their Facebook friends at the same time.

BD-Live has always allowed such "community screenings" via its "buddy list" function. But those lists now can be combined with Facebook's friend networks for immediate access to a broader array of acquaintances, rather than being limited to the general BD-Live community. That's why Warner has decided to partner with the hugely-popular Facebook network. This partnership is strategic only, with no money changing hands between the parties.

Late last year, Warner mounted one of the most-noted previous BD-Live ventures, when the distributor staged a community screening of 'The Dark Knight', during which director Christopher Nolan offered live commentary to 50,000 viewers on a dedicated Web site.

The 'Watchmen' Blu-ray will also include a new feature for the format. Dubbed "Maximum Movie Mode," it will allow split-screen viewing of the movie to focus on elements in director Zack Snyder's on-camera commentary.
