Sony Launches Real-time Movie Database on BD-Live
September, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will unveil MovieIQ, its latest BD-Live feature. This will give Sony Blu-ray fans access to a real-time movie database, with scene-by-scene cast and crew data, music and soundtrack information, and trivia. Every new and major catalog Blu-ray Disc release down the line from the studio will support this feature.

The first Blu-ray titles to include the feature will be 'Angels & Demons', 'Easy Rider', 'Punch-Drunk Love', 'The Quick and the Dead', 'Silverado', and 'Sex, Lies and Videotape', the studio said.

“We know many people interrupt their movie-watching experience to look up the filmography of an actor or to find out more about a song playing in the background,” said Lexine Wong, SVP of worldwide marketing for SPHE. “Now through MovieIQ, movie lovers can dive into constantly-updated information about the movie they are watching without leaving their sofa.”
 
Ok, I'm halfway through Ghostbusters. I don't know if it's the settings I configured on my set but the grain is not an issue here. Yes there's grain, which there shouldn't be an issue to begin with since that's the intended look, but it isn't as heavy as some have been saying. At least not on my TV. When are some people going to learn that not everything should be crystal clear on this format. The whole point is to get the intended look of the original print. People can get all bitter if they like about this movie on Blu-ray, but this movie has never looked this good. I say good work to the people who worked on this disc.

Well you also have to realize that there are a lot of people out there that just like to complain instead of just sitting back and enjoying the movie. People that literally pop in a Blu-ray with the sole intention of looking for flaws *COUGHS* AVSforum *COUGHS*. They probably sit right in front of the TV looking specifically for flaws which is kind of defeats the purpose. I have learned from myself to try my best to avoid that kind of nonsense and just enjoy the movies.

Well, you are talking about a technical forum...that's bound to happen.


And yes, many people will moan and groan about transfers and sound quality, etc...I can see that in the extreme cases but in most cases, most Blu-ray's look good-fantastic. There are only a handful that deserve criticism.

Well when i see people *****ing about something like edge enhancement I just tune out. Like seriously edge enhancement IMO is only noticeable if you are actively looking for it.

While 95% of the movie watching people out there wouldn't even consider buying it it is nice that Panasonic is taking the risk of putting it out there as an option. Because while it is not a large market there are people who still have a lot of home videos on VHS or really rare VHS tapes that believe it or not haven't even seen a DVD release.

Ahhh, and I spent time looking to see if it had been posted too. Should have known..

It is odd that they just didn't make it a SVHS deck, since they were going that route. Perhaps it actually is up to those specs, but they didn't want to confuse the 153 people debating a purchase of one.

Which would be easier to do. One giant tray with several accomadating grooves. My Pioneer laserdisc player is that way. The tray is set to hold four different sizes of media discs, all the way from the laserdisc to a mini-disc.

Yeah, a little edge enhancement doesn't bother me, but I have seen some movies (mostly DVD's) where it stands out more on a bigger screen. That's when it can get irritating.

Updated Rumored Titles on Blu-ray for 2009-2010
Our good friends at The Digital Bits have posted an update on its Rumor Mill section regarding BD titles that are expected for the rest of 2009, as well as movies that have been bumped into 2010 or later. Sadly, it seems that some major titles have definitely fallen off the 2009 slate, such as the Alien and Indiana Jones collections, or 'Monsters, Inc.'

Here is the updated list of titles that are tentatively slated for 2009:

New Line: Boogie Nights, The Green Mile, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (theatrical editions), Magnolia
Paramount/Dreamworks: Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Galaxy Quest, Gladiator: Extended Edition, It's a Wonderful Life, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection, Star Trek: The Original Series- Season 2
Sony: Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Warner: Gone with the Wind, Heat, North by Northwest

The 2010 schedule now includes the following titles:

Disney: Beauty and the Beast, Destino, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Toy Story 1 & 2.
Fox: Alien Quadrilogy, Rogers & Hammerstein musicals
MGM: To Live and Die in L.A. (delayed from June 2009 to February 2010)
Paramount: Chinatown, Flashdance, Indiana Jones Trilogy
Universal: Back to the Future Trilogy
Warner: Ben-Hur, The Goonies, King Kong

Note: with regard to 'Monsters, Inc.', our own contacts have confirmed to us that the title is still in schedule for the fourth quarter of 2009.

As always, all of the above is to be considered as unofficial until a studio makes an announcement.

From that list, I want Forrest Gump, both Toy Story movies, and the Back To The Future trilogy.

They bumped Monster's Inc. yet again? Ugh! Freakin' Disney! I was also looking forward to the Indiana Jones Trilogy, freakin' Paramount! Ugh!


Anyways, besides that, I'll definitely be picking up The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Galaxy Quest, Gladiator, It's A Wonderful Life, and Braveheart.

Re-read it I put the update in bold letters. It looks like Monsters Inc. is still on the 2009 release schedule.
 
Still holding off on Watchmen until they release the massive extended cut.
