The Fountain

I hate today's film industry.

The critics seem to decide en mass what to think of a movie prior to even seeing it.
Aren't you doing the same defending a movie you haven't seen? And the movie is pretentious, trust me.

Argh.

I just really had my hopes up about it.

I guess that's three of the movies I was anticipating dead in the water critically. 2 to go.

"Two days on from its world premiere, the film has already divided audiences: at the press screening, it was booed; at its public screening the following evening, the film was given a 10-minute-long standing ovation."

LOL .... says it all.

What you get out of any movie is up to you.

Wait ... watch ... then decide.

Critics really do suck.

Look at TIME's recent list of the All-Time 100 best movies. What's amazing is how many of the movies were badly reviewed by TIME when they first came out. For instance, Taxi Driver got ripped one, and Martin Scorsese was basically written off by them as a director who couldn't handle relevent commentary.

Now, here's the funny thing. In the entry under the 100 best films, it reads "TIME hated the movie when it came out ("thoroughly depressing realism" was the best it could say)." Now, here's the thing. This list was compiled and written up by one Richard Schickel. Guess who wrote that early review of Taxi Driver, the one Richard Schickel just criticized?

That's right. Richard Schickel himself.

So apparently, unless there are two Richard Schickels, his opinion on the film took a radical turn in the time since he first saw Taxi Driver (from a movie that apparently goes "disastrously wrong" to one of the hundred best) or one of Sir Richard Schickel's opinions is total bull****.

You choose.

"Critics really do suck"

Can't argue with that ...

Thing is ... at the end of the day a critic is simply giving an opinion on a subject we assume they know alot about because its their job.

But ... they are no different to you or I ... and its impossible to have a completely open mind on any one thing.

I don't like Westerns .... so if I became a film critic and watched a Western chances are this would come through in my review.

A food critic would probably laugh at a plate of egg and bacon ... does that make it bad food ? .... NO. Millions of people LOVE it.

When I read a review I simply remember I am reading an opinion ... nothing more. The only person who can decide if a movie is good/bad to me is ...... me.

When The Fountain comes, almost all critics will start writing negative reviews.

BUT two-three years later, I'm sure they all will be wrong ;) (Fight CLub, Donnie Darko, Requiem for a Dream, don't you remember them?)

It looks like a movie I will like. Can't wait to see it.

It was really really good. Very different than any other movie I've ever seen. The coolest part was that Darren Aronofsky was at the screening!!!

What's your favorite scene/part of the movie?

Did it make even sense to you?

I mean, the basic story makes sense. It's just the distinction between the different time lines and how they connect to one another that confuses me a bit.

All of the space imagery was INCREDIBLE, but my favorite scene in the film is the scene with Jackman weeping while cutting the ink from Izzi's gift pen into his vacant ring finger.

Do you think that the future and past scenes are "real"?

The Fountain is on my must see list of films this year. I've only seen bits and pieces of the trailer, can anyone get me a YouTube link maybe?

From what I did see, it looks to be a very emotional film. But that's what i like. And it's got two great lead actors (Jackman and Weiz) so I know it'll be worth a watch. Plus, it's a sci-fi adventure it looks like.

It's going to be good.

The leads are good, the movie is very emotional and far from being a sci-fi adventure. And to me it's good, not that good though.
It's a fantasy new-age drama.

If you haven't already seen the trailer DO NOT WATCH IT!!!

I wish I hadn't seen it after seeing the movie. I REALLY wish I hadn't seen it.

this has been my most anticipated movie of this year and the reviews really are scaring me.

i really wanna take my girlfriend to see it with me but im afraid she'll just ***** about how confusing it may be and how she wont get it. she has horrible taste in movies but it seems like such a perfect movie to see with ur loved one

ANYWHO ive been looking around for gifs of this movie, but no such luck, even on the gif board. i would make them myself but i cant.
anyone have any?

This film looks...meh. The concept really interests me, but from what I've seen of trailers and such, it just looks bleh. Depressing.

Maybe a rental for me.
