Transformers The G-1 References Thread

I just watched the 86 movie last night and spotted another G1 reference in the new movie. When Jazz drives over, transforms, and leaps onto Devestator's tank barrell pulling it to the side, that is almost exactly what Kup does to Blitzwing in the first movie.

Nope. As Deceptacreap isn't a word. But I didn't hear him say Deceptacreep. Whatever they did to Eddie Winslow's voice made Jazz a bit garbled sometimes.

Ya I thought it was funny when Sam tells Mikayla (however you spell it) that theres, "more than meets the eye with, you" and later he tells himself how stupid that was.

and peter cullen voices as prime. thats gotta be the biggest g1 nod in the movie.

do u think any of the animes will be referenced? like the armada/energon/cybertron shows. i didnt like them, but they might be. i wouldnt mind seeing a hot shot instead of hot rod. that way, optimus wont have to die.

I bet they'd think that Hot Shot is too similar to Bumblebee. I don't picture him showing up in a Transformers movie until maybe the third film.

Yeah, Hot Shot is basically Bumblebee with Hot Rod's name. They have to have Hot Rod in the sequel.

Man I hate hot shot/hot rod. He was the lamest transformer of all. I hope we NEVER see him.

yeah, the yellow Bumblebee VW beetle was totally a nod to the original. which was great, because Bumblebee was a very memorable character in the cartoons. he was the littlest Autobot of the crew. and probably the weakest. but he had a lot of heart. haha. so that was a cool homage.

and yeah the old school transforming sound was a nice touch. i was happy to catch it amidst the mixture of transforming sounds going on.

also, one other thing i thought was interesting was how with Optimus Prime, they showed his face with his mouth exposed, which looked very different from the original. but then later on in the movie they did show him with that "mask" thing that covered his mouth which did look exactly like the original. so that was different.

Yeah, he "killed" Prime in the 1986 movie...get over it

Hot Rod has one of the BEST built-in character arc's for a film..and you DO NOT have to kill Optimus to follow that arc either...

I may be wrong about this since I have only seen the movie once and that was on opening day, but the TF that was created out of the cell phone in the lab as a demonstration of the al***ark looked alot like Unicron. At least the head part anyway.

After the Autobots disarm Sector Seven and rescue Sam and Mikaela, they tie up Simmons to the phone pole. The S7 backup shows up, and Prime tells his boys to hightail it.

Bumblebee takes center stage in the shot by transforming on all fours like he does, but if you look behind him, you can see Jazz doing his G1-style swandive into vehicle mode!

Thought it was a neat little easter egg.

i dont like hot rod either. if he hadnt touched the matrix, ultra magnus could have led like optimus intended. but no..."rodimus" had to burn the organization to the eff-ing ground. the best thing he did was revive optimus to solve his problems.

i honestly think hot rod is kinda cool. but it is kinda true that he was the cause of prime's death.

I really hope Hot Rod never touches a live action TfFmovie (sorry Hot Rod fans) but i think it's pretty common among G1 fans that Hot Rod is the bane of the G1 universe. His character sucked, and ****ed up on so many levels, it's not even funny anymore.

Well see, that's the thing, I preferred him as Hot Rod, rather than Rodimus Prime.

Rodimus prime... I know hate is a strong word, but in this case is the appropiate... as a kid, when I watched tranformers, after Prime death, when Hot rod took over, transformers died for me... I was with rodimos that I learned the meaning of the word Hate

hot rod takes over, messes up the autobot organization, then brings optimus back to life to fix his problems...a pretty bad leader i'd say.

if hot rod is introduced in the later movies, i just hope he's a regular autobot that cracks jokes(wally west flash style). no money shots, no killing of decepticons, just a joker. that way i could learn to like hot rod a little more.

this is all my fault. this thread was supposed to be about g1 references, but i just HAD to say something about hot rod.
