Transformers The G-1 References Thread

Megatron being buried in the ice of the north pole was kind of a reference to Skyfire being buried in ice when he's introduced in G1.

Also, I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but the scene where Optimus Prime opened up his chest to reveal his spark seemed very visually reminiscent of the matrix of leadership.

Yet one of the most popular at the same time:whatever:

Yeah, he "killed" Prime in the 1986 movie...get over it:whatever: :whatever:

Hot Rod has one of the BEST built-in character arc's for a film..and you DO NOT have to kill Optimus to follow that arc either...

Plus, I want to voice him;)

Hot Rod was a lame character to be frank...and plus, he turns into Rodimus Prime? That's one of the lamest ideas I've ever heard.

I never wanna see Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime ever in a TF movie.

Optimus Prime : "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"

Optimus Prime : "Autobots, Transform and Roll out ! "

Optimus Prime : "One Shall Stand , One Shall Fall

He never said "Autobots, transform and roll out!"

He did say though, "Autobots, roll out."

Having Camarobee hit the sidedoor of the VW with his own door was a slap in the face of true fans of G1.

I'm not sure if that is accurate b/c I came across this:

Don Murphy wanted to retain Bumblebee's Volkswagen Beetle form,[39] but Bay rejected it to avoid comparisons with Herbie the Love Bug,[40] and chose the Chevrolet Camaro instead, which he described as having a friendly quality.[37] The other Autobots also became GM-owned vehicles in a product placement deal that saved $3 million,[3] though Bay hoped they would have supplied a bigger car than the Pontiac Solstice for Jazz.[32]

Even if Bay wanted to use the Volkswagen design whe wouldnt have been able to.The head of Volkswagen hs refused to allow Takara/Hasbro to use his car's as template's for Transformers for some time. That why we never saw a Binateck/Alternators line of Bumlebee toy even thou their was a proto type done.Their a German comp. and their afraid of having their imiage linked to warfare.

As far as I know they cant use the name.
They can use it in fiction (Movies, TV shows, graphic novels, comics, etc.), they just cannot name a toy that. However as of late what they have been doing to circumvent this problem (aside from renaming them) is to attach to prefix "Autobot" or "Decepticon" to the name.

This is true but they wont do that!!!!!!What would be the sence in calling him Hotrod in the Movie if they cant call the toy release Hotrod!!! And the prefix thing cant be aplyed to hotrod because it would contain the word "Auto" in it.The trademark is owned by an Automotive Mag. and it thet will say it infringe's on their trademark. Now if they made him a Decepticon then they could use the prefix "Deception Hot Rod" and it would be allowed but I dont see them doing that.

No, they can do that. "Autobot" is a copyright of Hasbro. It does not matter if it has the word "Auto" in it, as long as it has "bot" attached to it. Hotrod can easily be released as "Autobot Hotrod" as a toy, and for the movie they are allowed to call him just "Hotrod." That's exactly what they did with Jazz and Ratchet, and that is what they will do with Hotrod.

They cant do it.They tryed and failed before.Hasbro's reisue of Hotrod was sumitted as Autobot Hotrod and rejected and changed into Rodimus Major and it was tryed with the classic Rodimus and the titanium 3inch Rodimus. Both were going to be called Autobot Hotrod but had to be changed to changed to Rodimus. The name Hot Rodimus was even passed to their leagal dept. but it was rejected because it was to simular.

Wasn't a "slap-in-the-face".

It WAS a way to show the old version of Bumblebee since Bay wanted this version of BB to not be the smallest Autobot of the group, and the addition of black paint stripes was a way to successfully show that that car is Bumblebee, and I enjoyed Bay's version.

At least it was a nod, Bay didn't need to put a VW Bug in the movie at all.

I remember someone saying VW wouldn't let them use their cars in the movie, once. So I saw it as a slap againt VW.

That sucks. I think I'm gonna go kick a lawyer in the junk. :down

Although I have never liked (and still don't) the idea of Bumblebee being a hot-rod, but I agree with what you say. I saw it more as a nod than a diss.
