The Gifted The Gifted 105 - "boXed in" Discussion Thread

I also find it odd that Blink's portals werent shown in this episode, instead they just had that purple lightning. As someone who isn't enjoying this show, these little things irk me even more.

Could be budgeting. "Hey we showed you in the first two episodes, so you get the idea..." kind of thing. :p

The another thing I find odd is they have these computer screens for security and surveillance. But girl... Not even a first aid supply for emergency. With mutants that can turn invisible and plant memories, I would like to think they'd be more ready for health emergencies... I guess mommy Strucker really needed to be there as their Claire Temple :o.

This isn’t the world of X1 or X2. Mutants have been made enemies of the state in all but name and Lorna is quite correct slow motion genocide is the policy of this government. It’s one step below going full 2027 DoFP and it’s already turning Mutants into slaves to fight other Mutants and sending killer robots after them.

How do you dismantle a system that is this far down the rabbit hole by nonviolent means alone? Thunderbird is the Xavier parallel character and even he knows they must hide and at times fight or die. Eclipse is in the middle and Lorna has the most proactive approach.

I didn't say "nonviolent means" only. My point is that kids should not be used as soldiers. And no, it doesn't make a difference if it's "the African-kill your parents or we kill you" way or an "adult mutants don't mind risking kids' lives" piece of fiction.

You take someone like Fade who can be invisible after a fashion. How has he not gone on supply runs for the safehouse on his downtime? You would think with all of their capabilities they would have more things stocked up. :(

Another solid ep. Good to see Jace's back story. I hope this mutant Alzheimers thing wears off. That must be hellish to relive your child's death. I think this is going to motivate him to give the mutants even more trouble.

Not sure how I feel about the Struckers playing happy family's in the Mutant Liberation club house. I was actually hoping the family get's tragically broken up and Kate and Reed decide that they need to leave there kids to keep them hidden and safe.

Andy is destined to join a mutant extremest group. I'd love to see a season of him hanging with "the wrong crowd" (tv equivalent of the brother hood?) and growing his telekinetic powers.

If it wasn't for Mama Strucker, the injured mutant would have died.:csad:

Oh I know. It's just that we had the medical thing with Blink two episodes ago, so this felt very repetitive to me. :(

Give her a break! They needed to give her a role so she wouldn't return to her usual habit - worrying about her children and her husband... Well that's her role in the next episode.:p

This Strucker family just suck. Andy is annoying, I don't care about Reed and his flip flopping ways and Lauren isn't even interesting.

I like the fact the human mom gets to shine every now and then on a superhero show. Catlin's the shiz for me.

Also, what the writers did to Agent Turner was beyond cruel. Good stuff.

Why so angry? Worrying about one's own family is not a "habit" - it is a natural predisposition. What do you expect the mom to do - shout enthusiastically: "Yippee, kids, go and get yourselves killed: it's going to be so much fun"? And honestly, can we give the boy a break? Even though he is scared, unsure of himself and somewhat reluctant to do team work, he did show sensitivity and good thinking (unlike, ahem some other mutants in this episode). Powers may seem cool, but one can be extremely useful without them, too.

See, this stuff with Turner's family and learning about his daughter makes him come off a bit more sympathetic. He's like a twisted version of Magneto, blaming all of mutantkind for the actions of a few and not seeing the difference between good and bad.
Yes there is definitely something to that.
Otherwise, pretty good episode. The Struckers have definitely proven their worth by helping the mutants and saving Trader's life. Kind of makes Caitlin rethink letting her kids get involved and use their powers, I bet. And figured that Blink would confront Dreamer on the dreams eventually.

The Struckers are starting to improve.
