Okay how are they going to explain the glasses thing? He has been seen as Clark by MANY people without them throughout Smallvilles run. Is Superman going to finally appear and people NOT know that it's Clark Kent from Smallville Kansas?

I think the glasses and an explaination of how they work in this mythology needs to come into the show now.

Yea that has been a problem with smallville since they brought perry/lois/jimmy in. They should have kept clark wearing classes when he was blinded back in season 3. So then they could have had a few years with lex seeing him with classes so he would then slowly forgot what clark looked liked without glasses.

glasses would've made no sense in the show up to this point. He's got superhuman vision, he's not going to just start wearing them. He'll need the glasses only when he has the need for a disguise, which wont come about until he decides he needs dual identities which we're supposed to start seeing this season.

it was said by the producers that this season is about dual identities & clark creating the superman identity. Hense we'll probably get some small explanation this season as to how it all goes down. If this is the last season they'll have to & if it's not then it will in season 9 ( shakes in fear of season 9 ).

Steve

If the new guys are thinking of & like Al & Miles when writing scripts like they say they are then expect no explanation as Al & Miles have said they will not worry about the identity thing because they will not get that far

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that in the comics Superman had a kind of telekinetic power that helped him disguise himself or something along with the fact his glasses made his eyes look different. It was something like that, maybe that can do it kinda like that. And if your wondering im almost positive I read it in some big book called The Superman Encyclopedia or something.

the "new guys" arent exactly "new guys" since they've all been writing for the show since Season 2

But thats the problem. Everyone has seen him without glasses. Unless Clark ages significantly enough to have people know him through the glasses and those who know him not to see Clark in Supermans face, they need to put glassess on him 5 seasons ago.

C'mon now, the whole glasses disguise is ridiculous to begin with. Lois would have to be an idiot not to recognize he's Superman even if she's always seen him with the glasses since she spends so much time with each of his alteregos. Compounded by the fact the she's one of the Word's greatest investigative reporters, makes her look like even more of a dolt.

The glasses disguise is just something you "go with" when you immerse yourself in the Superman myth. What Smallville has done only requires a slightly bigger leap in logic than any standard Superman comic. Not to mention, since he's met her so early on life now, they could just go with the fact that she knows up front, but doesnt confront Clark until he's ready to tell her. Remember Lois' talk with Chloe last season about friends coming clean when they're ready? I thought that was a precursor for her and Clark.

C'mon, even Singer got it and touched upon the disguise thing in SR.

The physical and facial similarities between Clark and Superman are glaringy obvious to everyone, not just Lois - I mean, let's face it, a pair of glasses and a different hair parting arent going to fool anyone.

What stops people from coming to the conclusion that the two are in fact the same man is that while Clark does uncannily resemble Superman, he's such a clumsy doofus with so many 'bags of humility' (to quote Jackie Cooper) that he couldnt possibly be this 'superhuman god-like figure' who they see flying round Metropolis from day to day.

It's for that reason that I never got Dean Cain's Clark. He played him too 'cool'; it almost made the point of the disguise redundant. There was nothing to distinguish between his Superman and Clark apart from the slicked back hair.

And to be honest, as mentioned previously - I cant see a way the secret identity can be introduced convincingly in Smallville as so many people have already seen Clarks sans glasses and without the 'bumbling' persona.

wasn't the whole bumbling clumsey thing created by Chris Reeve? How was it in the comics before? I don't think George Reeves played the bumbling reporter on the show in the 50s. I liked Dean Cain's Clark. His Superman sucked, but I always enjoyed his Clark. I hate when they make Clark such a pathetic tool that nobody would give him a second look. I hated how Lois treated Clark in Superman Returns. They were pretty good friends in Superman 2 but in Superman Returns, they were just co-workers. It's like they regressed (I know 5 years passed, but still...)

But that's the point - as you said, nobody would give him a second look. The perfect disguise, eh?

Singer got nothing right. He reverted Clark to being the bumbling fool from 30 years ago. More on why that's bad later...

You could argue that being an utter fool and cluts would make him stand out even more. Reeve's Clark, as endearing as he was due to Reeve's acting prowess, and Routh's poor aping of him, is way over the top. He's trying too hard not to look like Superman. I've much preferred the Clark we've seen in the comics since Byrne's MOS where he's just reserved and vanilla and blends in with the scenery. He's going to stand out a lot less than the Clark who falls down stepping into the elevator. People still shrug off the possibility of him being Superman because he's just "there"

You've got two ends of the spectrum. You've got Donner's/Singer's dufus Clark Kent and then on the other end of the spectrum you've got the L&C Clark who isnt really any different from Superman, which I agree with you is just as bad. The best Clark Kents lie somewhere in the middle of those two. The Clarks we've seen in Superman: TAS, Birthright, and Superman For All Seasons pretty much found that perfect balance.

I've always felt the same way, and i've never liked CR's version of Clark, because you're right, you'll definitely notice someone who's falling and tripping and getting in the way all the time. I don't read many comics, but I do like how he's portrayed in the animated series, just very normal and forgettable. That makes more sense to me, because Superman is so powerful and has such a presence.

And as far as the glasses...it made no freaking sense to have Clark wear glasses as a kid before he even needed a dual identity, but I'm over complaining about that horrid film.

Yes I am very bored today:)

Kinda pointless to do it now, everone who would eventually know Superman has seen Clark without glasses AND wearing Superman colors.

Superman as we know and love will not exist in this shows continuity. Wait for a new movie if you want Superman. Stick with this mess if your content with watered down Roswellish Super Clark.

What I was going to say.

the legion of superheroes r coming in the show maybe they will do somthing like they did in the animated series as well saturn girl done somthing to peoples minds to the people to for get what clark looks like with out glasses.

Clark should disappear for a while, then come back, after aging up a bite, with his hair different, and wearing glasses, then let people get use to the new Clark, before making his first appearance as superman

then Superman would look different enough from young Clark that everyone remembers, and would look completely different from the new dorky Clark, for anyone to be able to compare

of course, if he was smart, (ignoring the myth of the comics) he would wear a fat suit as Clark
who would believe some fat guy is Superman, even if there faces are similar and their the same height LOL

Recent movies havent exactly given us Superman either so I wouldnt get your hopes up for that.

thats a possibility. I went to my 10 year high school reunion a few years ago and didnt recognize people I had spent every day with for 4 years. Although I diont think in this storyline, they're going to have Clark disappear for 10 years in the FOS

As who knows and loves?
I kinda know and love this one. To each their own though.

Wait for a new movie if you want Superman.

What new movie is that? *crickets*
