The Glasses!

well the gough interview is pretty much invalid now since he isnt running the show and the new showrunners look to be going a bit different then what gough's original plans were.

Not necessarily....

Newsarama: Welcome to the hot seat, Darren! Let’s start with the biggest change for season eight – show creator Al Gough and Miles Millar are no longer with the show. Did you all have a “pow wow” before they left on how to stick to their blueprint for the series or did they give dispensation on following your own path for the eventual outcome of the show?

Darren Swimmer: We had lots of discussions about how things will carry on. A few of the things we’re doing this season are their direct suggestions or things they had put in motion. Since we’ve been working with them for six seasons, we’ve got a pretty good sense of where they plan on going with the story, and we would like to stick to their vision as much as possible.

They’ve shared with us their concept of the way they see some of the final scenes, but they’ve been very generous about letting us take the series where we feel it needs to go. Overall, they’ve been incredibly helpful and supportive during the transitional period, and they’re not falling off the map. We have and we’ll continue to run ideas past them once in awhile.

Time will tell though.

Recent movies havent exactly given us Superman either so I wouldnt get your hopes up for that.

Yeah, uh-huh, sure... :whatever: we didn't see Superman in "recent movies".

I would say your reaching, but it's pretty obvious your content with SuperKent, so I wont even bother getting into any kind of debate.

For others here, dont you feel as cheated watching this and getting no alter ego? I mean, even Lois and Clark made an effort. This is a great flaw in this show, I still never understood that unless there is a massive amnesia outbrake in Smallville and Metropolis, Clark can never be Superman. Too many people know him. And didn't they also make his Mother a senator as well?

There is too much baggage on the show to allow it too evolve, and I dont understand how Superman fans can enjoy watching a show where so much standard Superman Mythos has been mutilated.

all they're doing is giving you one version of the superman mythos with a spin. treat it as an elseworld thing if you have such a problem with it. You won't feel as pissed off if you do. :whatever:

And yet a lot of us do. Go figure.

I think what qualifies as "standard Superman Mythos" can be a little fuzzy around the edges, depending on who you're talking to.

To me, and maybe this is why I can accept SV as just a valid part of the overall Superman legend as anything else - It all comes down to the man himself and what he represents. All the rest: Suit, Lois, Smallville, DP, etc... are important details to be fit in somewhere around him and his story.

As long as I can believe in this character as having the heart of the Superman I envision, the rest is just storytelling. You can either enjoy it for the ride it is, or not. Really, it's just that simple.

Yea the show does have some "baggage" moments and all that. But for the most part the show has been pretty good. The point with the show is they are taking elements/aspects from all superman mythos and then giving it the smallville twist to them. Some times it has worked like brainiac or even bizarro and some times it hasnt work like the whole dragging on of the lana and clark relationship.

The thing is there is no such thing as a "standard" Superman mythos.

I'm a Superman fan and I love the show even though it has at times been a bumpy ride.

You don't like it, you don't have to watch, but overall I'm happy with the show and I'm looking forward to the upcoming season.

That interview pretty much summed as..." We'll use what Al and Miles were planning, but were going in our own direction in certain aspects, especially as the series nears the end":o

forget the glasses, Clark should wear an eye patch
LOL

new info by darren schwimmer.

Quote:
Nice Kid From Krypton Makes Good: This is the season of Clark's Superization. According to Swimmer, "He's going to be seeking out the trouble, as opposed to reacting to trouble when it happens. One of his main motivations for going to the Daily Planet was to be somewhere where the information comes in." Consider D.P. to be his own personal police band radio. "He's going to be much more on patrol than he was ever in his life—and he's really stepping up in a big way to his destiny." And since his destiny and the Daily Planet are over in the big city, "The feel of the show is going to be a lot more Metropolis this year." Don't worry, though, Clark still lives in Smallville as of season eight, and there will be plenty of scenes back in the old home town.

The Old Switcheroo:If you were so inclined, you could probably blame Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) for the cape, tights and giant S thing. According to Swimmer, "There's an episode where Jimmy will think he sees something and starts connecting it to Clark, and Clark has to dig himself out of it. That starts Clark thinking that maybe it would be wise to have a secret identity. He starts embracing the idea that there's someone out there saving people. He's not denying that completely anymore, he's just not ready to tell anyone it's him. And that makes this year very exciting for us." No telling yet if there's actually going to be a costume, but the Superman brand is definitely in development

You know, though, I was original saying it jokingly about the eye patch...

The more I think about, it could almost make since for this version

if he stages a fake accident, then makes everyone believe he lost (or some how injured) his eye, and needs to wear an eye patch

I mean, it would still fit the same theme as the glasses, still fitting the metaphor about how its Clark who wears the disguise
(poeple would start to get use to how he look in the patch and start to forget what he looked like before)

and not only that, but, if his accident an injuries, becomes well known, (and believed to be fact) it could work as a symbol of Clark mortality, showing that he's able to be hurt, he is just human (too anyone who ever previously questioned it)

also, that due to the issues of depp perception with the eye patch, it would give him a reason, (as an excuse), to be clumsy...
but, because its due to the eye patch, it wouldn't be in a making a fool of himself, kinda way
it would be almost more in a sympathetic ("ohh, poor Clark, let me help you") way

instead of the old, Superman doesn't wear glasses argument (weak)
it would be become, superman has two eyes, Clark doesn't :cwink: (which does sound like a more solid argument)

gained it wouldn't be keeping in with the mytho of the comics, but, still

Clark should bring out his old Zorro costume. Or at least cut it up to be something different

Guaranteed, it'll have something to do with using the fortress/Jor-El to alter reality. As in everyone sees clark in his glasses as nerdy and clumsy and they can't even identify him without the glasses.
