God, Welling is just milking this for all its worth, isn't he?

The Graysons? hahahahah this has to be a joke! what's next? The Real story of Alfred the butler?????????????

they were going to have Alfred narrate the unmade Bruce Wayne series back in 2000

I think The CW is smart enough to turn this down. They may not be very smart, but I think they're smart enough to know that this is God-awful.

this perpetual fear of costumes the cw has is getting very stupid.

I really don't want to see them butcher and rape the Batman mythos.

Can't they just do Smallville and then move onto other things outside the realm of superheroes?

They need to give up exploiting DC characters.

This whole thing sounds like CW's attempt to 'cash-in' on the success of TDK, to state the obvious.

I'd say that train left the station a long time ago. Batman was a perpetual punching bag for 3 decades up until TAS and Begins. They couldnt do any worse if they were trying.

They need to give up exploiting DC characters.

If they're "exploiting them" as you say know full well that everything that's ever been done on Smallville be it a character introduction, mythos change, or any kind of costuming goes through an approval process with the staff of DC Comics. The show has never at any time had carte blanche with these characters outside of the ones they've created like Lionel and Chloe (whom DC has since purchsed rights to BTW).

If you want to complain about the people who run Smallville (Souders & Peterson just took over this season BTW) have compromised the "mythos" (as if a set standard somehow exists anyway) then part of your ire should be turned on the folks making decisions over at DC Comics because they've signed off on virtually everything the show has done for 8 years. Then again they also approved the script for Superman Returns so perhaps their standards are lax.

By 'exploiting' I mean shoehorning DC characters into the teen soap/drama format for CW in order to get their paychecks. I'm only complaining about them in regards to this.

I don't have a problem with that approach with Smallville. It was a bit ridiculous when applied to Mercy Reef, but its beyond ridiculous with the pre-Robin thing.

They have to realize that the Smallville format doesnt work with every DC character.

And I'm aware DC signed off on this show, but I remember them (Noveck specifically) sounding off on how great Justice League Mortal is. Suffice it to say I dont think the current heads of DC know what's best either or what their fans want.

DC signed off on Birds of Prey too; awful show.

My God, has any WB exec actually READ the show description?! It sounds absolutely horrendous! It's bad enough that most people look at Robin as a joke, but having the pre-Robin exploits of "DJ" Grayson (who'll probably be a 25-year-old actor) and family is just plain lame.

And stupid.

I don't think it will be bad. of course it wont be the best show but look at Smallville, thats the young life of Clark Kent that no one knew of. So i think the Graysons would be alright

no luck for justin hartley...shame...he made a good aquaman and green arrow.

1: The Adventures of Superman When He Was a Boy, well, that has a lot of potential to be interesting. There's quite a bit of time between Clark beginning to discover his powers and Clark becoming Superman. There are themes of self discovery, feelings of isolation, confusion about what path to take in life, and the burden of responsibility that are great things to play with in a serialized story. The journey of Clark to Superman has potential to be just as interesting a story as just Superman himself. The journey from Dick to Robin, on the other hand, would last a season of TV at most. There was no gradual discovery of self and responsibility for Dick. Just one horrifying and tragic moment that scarred him emotionally, which was followed by someone who shared similar tragedies showing him a way to channel that anger into a life of selflessness. The journey of Dick Grayson to Robin could make a great first few episodes or even first season of a TV series, or a great TV miniseries, if his parents die in the first, second, or even third episode. The journey of Robin to Nightwing could make a great TV series. And the story of Nightwing could make an absolutely brilliant TV series. But a show about his life before his parents died? Well, that's just the story of a 12-14 year old kid who's parents work for a circus. There is potential for a good show in that, yeah, but not something they could keep going forever, because the fact is that a year or two in you'd have to kill off his parents and introduce Batman if the show is actually about Dick Grayson. And certainly not the stuff of an action show.

2: Smallville is not a good example of how The Graysons could be good, because Smallville has completely wasted it's potential. It's no longer about Clark Kent's growing up, and his journey from a small town kid to both a respected writer and one of the greatest heroes on Earth. It's just a Superman show that won't admit it. It's got Brainiac, The Justice League, Supervillains coming out of the woodwork, Clark working at the Daily Planet, and pretty soon both Doomsday and Darkseid. They tried to make it about his journey, but they managed to chicken out and simply make it a thinly veiled Superman show.

All in all, if the CW has any brains, they'll sent it back to the writers and say "age him 13 years and make him Nightwing."

Lol, the hate in here is tremendous! I for one...

hate it too lol. Sorry, but this just sux :D

I agree. Hartley deserves better. Give the guy his own show already! He's earned it.

Ugh. Don't even mention it. :(

I'm a strong supporter of Robin appearing in the movies but this just won't work.

They should have done the Flash TV show like they were planning on doing years ago.

Personally I'll like to see a Nightwing show. And Cast Chris O'Donnell and have Micheal Keaton do a guest appearance....It's not like their careers are in demand now anyhow.

O'Donnell's way too old now. He's pushing late-thirties, isnt he?

I had an idea for a Grayson series a while back similar to this, except it followed Dick's life after his parents died and he was taken in by Bruce. The whole series would be him trying to adjust to life living with Bruce, have Bruce trying to be afather figure, and the whole time Dick wouldn't know Bruce was Batman until like the second series ro whatever. There'd be guest apparances by other villains and such....I had a whole series planned out for fan ficiton and everything. This may sound biased but I think my idea would be a better route. :D

Hopefully this doesn't blow as much as it already feels like it will. They could've gone with a Task Force X series or a Green Arrow series or the freaking Aquaman series....but this?

I much rather have a Nightwing series than a pre-Robin Dick Grayson show. The majority of people don't give a crap about Robin, what makes CW think people will be interested in a kid who isn't even Robin yet? UNLESS, the first episode starts off with The Graysons' deaths and D.G. goes to live with Bruce while all this happens, then it may work. As long as Batman makes an appearance here and there, it could work. I personaly wouldn't find a show about a kid working in a circus and battling teenage hood interesting. I see that show all the time on every other network.

But who knows...?

Nolan and the Features Dept would never allow Batman or Bruce (or even Alfred) to appear in this.
