Apparently James Henson played Sweetums in the movie as well. Glad at least one of the Henson clan got in there to play a Muppet for this film if that's true.
Honestly with this release, I wouldn't mind if some of those old Muppet TV specials would get on DVD or be made available on their website. For instance, Muppets at Walt Disney World . That was Jim Henson's last Muppet project.
I'm curious to know who's gonna be the first critic to crap on this film. An impressive 58-0 so far on RT, and not one of them have sad a bad thing about it other than a few minor quibbles. I genuinely didn't expect this film to be as warmly received as it has been. Can't wait!

Saw this at midnight last night. It's true, it really is a return to form for the Muppets. It's so great to see them all together on the big screen again. I can't wait to see this movie again.
Got out of work early today, so I went to check it out. I loved it. I got hit by waves of nostalgia. I think that Jason Segel and co. did an amazing job of bringing back the characters we know and love. Definitely the best Muppet movie since "Muppets Take Manhattan".
I got to check out the movie last night. During the last showing at a local regal theater. I really enjoyed the movie alot. The musical numbers were pretty good, the muppets got alot of good screen time. Segel and the other guy wrote a pretty good script. I also enjoyed all the cameo appearances of actors in the film. I laughed pretty good throughout the film. The theater was semi packed for a late showing and only other 20 somethings in the theater with me. Who also had laughes at the right moments. All in all a solid muppets film. I hope we see another soon.
I saw a double feature of this and Hugo yesterday, and I loved this! I definitely preferred Hugo, but this was such a wonderful and welcome return for the Muppets.
Very satisfying movie. It's not perfect, but they absolutely did right by The Muppets. The writing is a bit inconsistent, but then, it always has been when it comes to these movies. There are moments of perfection, and a little bit of filler, sprinkled with plenty of great feel-good moments and easy, clean jokes. It's not trying to be something it's not, or outdo other movies. There are a few moments where they poke fun at the smaller scale and the budget. It's a muppet movie.
I found it interesting that the creators approach was to place The Muppets squarely in an almost heightened, pseudo make-believe world of costumes and unique people and musical numbers instead of something more like the real world. There are elements of that in the older muppet movies to be sure, but it was in full display here.
That said, realism aside, I loved it when
they traveled by map and the “lets finish up with a montage” bit.
There's a lot of self awareness here, they definitely seem to know they are in a movie.
Muppetwise, the film was pretty heavy on Kermit and light on the other muppets, but it finds time to spotlight most of them. Miss Piggy has a noticeably smaller role, though I'm sure that is down to Frank Oz's departure. I did miss Rizzo having his typical supporting role, but he was reduced mostly to cameo. Still, the movie makes room for almost every major muppet to have at least one major moment all their own, and that was nice to see.
The new muppet, Walter, is hard not to like, kind of a generic muppet who makes good. And maybe that's the point. It works well enough. Love his hidden talent at the end.

I loved that the movie focused so much on The Muppet Show. The creators just might be angling for a new one.
Celebritywise, after rumors of things like Christian Bale as Batman, and some ****** names, I was a little disappointed. Mostly TV stars, though there were quite a few popular ones. I could have done without Jack Black. I have no idea why they settled on him as the key celebrity in this film. He brought next to nothing to the movie, and threatened to take me right out of it a couple times with his complete lack of subtley. It would have been much funnier to see Steve Martin in that predicament. Plenty of random celebrity cameos to make up for it, though.
The musical numbers, simple as they are, grow on you, and the overall message is a welcome one. The last ten minutes of the movie really elevate it. Adored the very end. Felt like I was there for a moment. Definitely worth seeing.
It would be awesome if they brought back the Muppet Show, it'd give some high profile celebs to let their hair down a bit and just do something fun for once.
They did a great job with the new movie. I don't know if the new songs are as memorable, but they were funny and enjoyable. I could really tell there was a Conchord working on a few of them. It's great to know that the Muppets can still be funny after all these years and not feel outdated or anything. A new Muppets Show would be great and now I want one more than ever.
