Because it's not funny. And MacFarlane is a great voice actor if he only does one voice. But terrible when he does more than one in an episode... and when he does a minimum of three voices in every ****ing episode (plus a million more) that all sound exactly alike, it's awful. He's not funny. The show's not funny. Having Seth Green and Ms. Swan aren't enough to make up for the atrocity that is the one-voice-non-wonder. It doesn't help that the show's admittedly overrated by most fans. And each episode follows the same formula. Beat. Old TV show reference. Beat. Shut up, Meg. Beat. Another film/show reference. Beat. Stewie's hating momsy/loving Brian/being homosexual. Beat. Peter's going on some dumb life lesson mission. Beat. Another reference. Let's parallel Peter's stupidity with Brian's "intelligence". Beat. Reference. Beat. Oh ****, we underused the funniest talent we had... so, here's Chris saying something stupid. Beat. Reference. Beat. Pseudo-happy family moral ending. And then MacFarlane uses the same formula for his other shows. Non-human buddies, adult babies, dumb kids and stupid fathers are SO FUNNY AND ORIGINAL.
Good points. I still liked the earlier seasons and what you described was the formula of the later seasons, thought some of it existed throughout the show.
Btw, it's my birthday.
