all 50 states should have a uniform process for permitting and ownership

close gun show and sale loopholes

being able to buy a semi auto or auto weapon online needs to be done

Id even go so far as to jail parents for their children if they "accidentally" murder someone

I say give them the choice of 50 years in jail or have them get fixed because they shouldn't be reproducing.

a big part is the culture here in the US, why are we so gun crazy?

something bad happens, let's not fix the problem, everyone just buys more guns

Im the biggest gun supporter youll ever meet and I dont have a problem with stricter background checks and cracking down on gunshow loopholes.

Im for responsible citizens having guns.

Keep you nose clean and getting a firearm shouldnt be a problem.

I think this shows the biggest problem with the NRA, something like slightly more strict background checks makes sense but they won't budge an inch basically pandering to the idea once you move a inch then the world will fall apart

The bolded would involve legislature that keeps firearms out of the hands of criminals rather than a broader approach that also happens to hit law abiding citizens. Conan's suggestion sounds like it would do just that.

I think the response is like the thing where if someone tells you not to do something and you see no good reason for them to - you go and do it anyway. Something like that. I don't own a gun, so I can't vouch for how accurate this is, but its the best explanation I could come up with. For the majority it isn't a kind of gun culture so much as a "**** yeah, I do what I want!" kind of mentality. In this case, it happens to involve gun ownership.

but it's a slog to even have a conversation

the NRA has dumped millions into politicians coffers to stop them from even talking about gun violence

question how many of you are NRA members?

I certainly am not. I used to be. Had a card and everything.

The irony of what the NRA is doing is that they are going to allow relatively simple laws like bans on extended mags and background checks to evolve into a full out push to get automatics AND HANDGUNS banned.

Whoops.

YOu can not ban guns you would have to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

Why did you leave the NRA?

And what exactly would the suggestions of stronger background checks have done to stop the San Bernadino, Aurora, or Newtown shooters? Considering none of them were on the no-fly/terrorist watchlist, no criminal backgrounds, or have any mental holds precluding them from gun ownership, the background checks wouldn't have stopped them.

Also, automatics are almost completely banned unless you want to go through a long background check by the FBI and ATF and just have around $10K lying around waiting to buy one.

Liberals don't think about that.

All the guns were bought from a CA source and illegally modified afterwards.

No you don't. Rifles and shotguns fit perfectly as arms. There has been assault rifle bans before. A handgun ban would be no different.

Why did you leave the NRA?

Because of this very conversation. How dare they prevent what 80% or more of America wants. They have completely paralyzed our country. I disowned them after Sandy Hook.

Fine, you win. Assualt rifles and hand gun bans then, since you don't think banning extended mags or having background checks would do anything.

I'm for background checks but the suggestions that gun control advocates have put out there so far would have marginal impact on those willing to commit mass casualty incidents. Also, extended magazine bans have proven not to work since they're readily available online or from a private transfer and have already been used in crimes in states that have laws outlawing them.

I do not believe 80% of Americans want a gun ban. Over 125 million owners in the US.

if not a gun ban, comprehensive regulations

the San Bernadino shooters got their weapons from an online wholesaler

that should not be happening

Gun ban? Wut? No... Just some sort of regulation. Over 80% of the populace supports background checks, banned extended mags... this is what the NRA is preventing. It's going to blow up in their face and it could turn into a call for all out bans.

The only people bringing up all out bans are NRA supporters. They feel it's the end game. The irony is, because of their stubbornness, they just might end up being right.

Lol why do people jump to the word "ban" so quickly? Almost nobody is suggesting a complete ban. But you need a license to drive a car and if someone wants to buy a ****ing chinchilla they need to get a permit and register the thing, but in some states buying a small militia's worth of weaponry any jabronie with the money can do? You have to be a massive ****tard to think that isn't highly problematic.

I mean I've seen FPSRussia drive through a Whitecastle in a tank for God's sake, the USA and a bulk of its citizens need a reality check on what should or shouldn't be available to Joe Soap.

Could you please post some links.

I am curious. Again you can't ban all firearms.

Because people are selfish pricks and only want change if it means it won't impact them. So they jump to the extreme the minute anyone mentions something that can save lives but also impacts their own life.
