The Dark Knight The Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard Appreciation Thread

Batman stranded in the destroyed Tumbler. Defiant, he launches in the Batpod.... dan dan dan... (score playing loud)

Also, at the end: "so we have to chase him, because he can take it...."

Goosebumps all over my skin!

All in all, it might not be groundbreaking as people point out, but its great and it continues the themes of BB, as it should!

I LOVE music in Schiff/Dent/Batman scene. It's so dark and climatic. Amazing.

And also this very silent, slow music in interrogation scene, it's also in hospital (Dent/Joker).

I don't think Zimmer and Howard's work on TDK is eligible for the Oscar because of the whole "multiple composer" thing (which is what I think kept Nick Cave and Warren Ellis's brilliant score for the Assassination of Jesse James out of the race this last time).

Oh well, it's still a great score. Anyone else catch the nod to Elfman's theme in this score? Not sure if it was intentional or not, but it's built in underneath Zimmer/JNH's main theme in "I'm Not A Hero" and later "A Dark Knight." It's the same exact notes (and similar rhythm) as the 1st phrase of Elfman's theme. And speaking of "A Dark Knight," that's definitely my favorite track from this score. It's just...mesmerizing.

"Watch the World Burn" is my 2nd fave (which is what plays during the final Gordon/Two-Face/Batman confrontation). JNH is my favorite composer, and that track definitely sounds like his doing. I love string crescendos.

The score for the film is what pushes TDK from "excellent" to "absolutely brilliant" for me. The musical cues come at all the right places, and the overall score sets the perfect tone for the film.
